Michael Christian is a puppet, makes it up as he goes along...
2 weeks is BS it’s always the out come that determines the sentence, the guy was concussed didn’t come back on...therefore

Dangerfield should’ve got a week, is Christian scared of the Players Association?
Scared of taking the Brownlow off him more likely.

Disgraceful decision but let's look at the positives. Will had an interrupted preseason off the back of an ACL. He has looked tired the last couple of weeks so Russell can have him raring to go in a few weeks time.
saddler needs games not a rest........

Bloody joke, then again it is the c9medy festival
2 blokes walk into a bar - both get concussed - bar barracks for carlton - bar gets 2 weeks..........

What I meant when I said that was very much that what you were saying there was not what you would teach children, not that you were a poor father.

Your attitude given scant provocation, though, certainly makes me question your evenness of wit.

And this is where we differ.

I've paid for my degree, which I only brought up because it has particular bearing on the topic under discussion. I don't attack people unless they go whole hog first, which you've done right here. I don't glorify my own intelligence, and if anything I'm taking a route which is point blank unintelligent here; it would be far easier to enter into this particular system with the aim of corrupting it further than it would be to change it. It would be the practical thing to do.

What it would not be is the right thing to do. Spare me your indignation and your inferiority complex, you buffoon.

You've complained about the lack of Carlton supporters doing what other clubs do, influence the system to their benefit. Is that not what you're getting at?

How dare I question you, or your motives? How dare I even presume to argue that you could be wrong? How dare I indeed!

Ok then. What are your ideas in making it a level playing field? What are your thoughts on Carlton as a club having more of a fair go. How can it happen in your ideal world. Because it’s clearly BS at the moment how we are targeted by the media and AFL. Yes wins will make them quieter but they will still cut us down every chance they get. It’s pretty tough to believe in yourself as a team though when you are continuously being told you are no good.

Tell me this to. How is it being corrupt by having a say? How is being corrupt by having strong people who have supported/work for Carlton and are passionate about our club striving for these positions. You say change the system, has it changed ever? The AFL is run by ex footballers. The media is run mostly by ex footballers. Footballers that played for AFL clubs. You want everyone in those positions to be impartial and unbiased, tell me how this happens. It’s never going to happen. Football as does all sports is upheld by the people who play, support and love the game. Without this it ceases to exist.

Ideally the AFL should be run by a representative from each club with the games best interest at heart. This is the only way to make it fair. Human nature and biases take too much effect on the decisions made and unfortunately for us. We are Carlton a team everyone else hates.

Believe what you want and argue till the cows come homes. But the fact is, the only way to make it fair is to have a voice yourself. One thing is certain in life. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. For “the squeaky wheel gets the oil”.

As for the name calling... I’ll leave that up to you to argue between yourself, as to what I’d call you.

WHat irks me is that you can intentionally do something to another player and escape sanction (Dangerfield, Cox) or be trying to play the game on its merits and unintentionally harm someone and get rubbed out. Dangerous precedent by the trough eaters at the AFL for the younger leagues.

Jones should have gone for his whack on Cotchin more than Setterfield.

The whole MRP decision making process is a confusing mess.

Can’t believe Christian was watching the same footage as me while giving the explanation. Wtf is a “maybe slight slinging action” anyway? Don’t remember that being in the rules.

Neither is having hold of one arm, the rule is about having both arms pinned to your body so you cannot protect yourself.

Didn’t take into account any impact from a second head clash with the ground within 30 seconds either.

One man with too much power that is open to his interpretation and inherent bias is not a formula for success.

Have a panel of two or three who independently submit their assessment and the penalty only stands if they all agree. Otherwise it is reviewed by a different panel of three to determine which is the right answer.

Publish the findings from all decisions so clubs can learn from it.

Re: setters. The tackle was close enough to textbook, sure he was driven to ground but not slung. The GC player had a free arm, rather than release the ball he chose to keep hold of it rather than be pinged for incorrect disposal. In doing so he didn’t take the opportunity to brace for impact. As a result it made the impact and look worse because his head made contact with the turf. I think we’ve gone too far with this.
Consider Dusty throws an elbow and gets a week. Setters gets 2 for doing what he was taught to do.

All this crap about "i reckon Setters was due for a spell" - a couple of points

1. An AFL suspension rules him out of VFL (doesn't it?) - there is no way, even if he does need a spell (see point 2 below), that he would have a spell for two weeks without any sort of competitive run, maybe reduced minutes, but not nothing at all; and
2. No he does not need a "spell" he's a third year player who sould be coming into the lower end of his prime and he needs continuity not a bloody spell...

Ridiculous decision by the club and they should rightfully be taken to task over it.

Why waste your time? If the club thought it was worth a risk it would have appealed. You don’t want people running the club who do things for the sake of it.
But there was no risk, not possibility of a three week suspension, and the club shouldn't be worried about cost. If they are, i'll happily put my hand up to fly over and attend the tribunal.

Yes risk is the wrong word. There was no chance of overturning the decision. Why waste your time?

one of the most ridiculous decisions I've seen. If the player didn't get concussed then we wouldn't be hearing about it. It wasn't a sling tackle. It wasn't a bump. It was just a tackle. The player chooses not to put an arm out and choses to meet the ground head first then what can Setterfield do? It wasn't an illegal action at all.

Why aren't we appealing this and taking it to the tribunal? Or are we? Ask them what Setterfield did that was a breach of the rules? Nothing IMO. Wasn't even in the back.

He should have just elbowed him in the head off the ball, would only be one week.

Welcome to Sarcastaball.

Unfortunately Setters was done as soon as Powell got up & then staggered backwards like someone who was highly intoxicated. It was clear he was concussed & this was always going to be the key aspect of the MRO's decision. It sucks, but it is what it is.

To those who are calling the club "pathetic" & "gutless", the club had no hesitation in challenging the Curnow brothers penalties for umpire contact last year & were successful in getting the penalties reduced, only for Whateley to throw a hissy fit & force SHocking's hand. You have to pick your battles carefully.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-04-22/match-review-officers-statement-round-five

Easton Wood, Western Bulldogs, has been charged with engaging in Rough Conduct against Patrick Cripps, Carlton during the second quarter of the Round Five match between the Western Bulldogs and Carlton, played at Marvel Stadium on Sunday April 21.
In summary he can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Careless Conduct with Low Impact and High Contact. The incident was classified as a $3000 sanction as a first offence. The player can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.

It’s not about challenging the AFL and calling BS. It’s about having a voice. Having people like Juddy tonight, constantly in the media and dissolving the nay sayers. Shutting down the stupid questions that are only there to bring us down. The media has it in for us and to an extent so does the AFL. What is wrong with having a few Carlton people there to represent the club. Every other club does so why can we not? We are naive to think this doesn’t matter...
