Training 2019 Preseason

To put it bluntly, it’s because the evidence already shows he’s a crap coach and we are basing this “surround a coach with better assistants” theory on Hardwick and Buckley who had at least taken their teams to finals and are from rich clubs.

Another year with a crap coach with good assistants is still a waste, just maybe not as painful a waste as 2018 with a crap coach and crap assistants. We should’ve just lanced the boil like the dogs did with McCartney.
Except that we were on a good improving trend right up until the latter part of last year. No one seems to want to admit that under Richo we were actually tracking above what we were "expected" to be at but are very quick to throw him under the bus due to one admitably terrible year.

Buckley made finals his first two years due to inheriting one of the youngest premiership teams of all time, somehow making them play poorly in those finals, and then had them fall apart in his hands followed by years trading water in the bottom half of the ladder before mysteriously catapulting into a grand final on the back of better help and honestly a general crap standard of competition.

Isn't there a thread about sacking Richo?
You know right next to the one about the player revolt and all the players requesting trades if Richo stayed.

I feel a bit responsible for this by asking what Richo brings to the saints. I’ve really appreciated all the background info. It’s been very informative and articulate. That specific question hasn’t been answered but I’ve got a much better understanding of the dynamics.
In the main and despite this being a divisive subject, I think the posters have been very respectful and I haven’t see too many people calling for Richo’s head.

Felt tightness, had a scan and there was no damage.
Will be fine.
That means he's torn the hamstring off the bone and his career is effectively over.
Injury worse than club is letting on

Spot on. Basically I think we would have gone from posting what was it a 200k profit to posting a >200k loss. That would have been a massive killer for the profile of Matt Finnis. Can't have that.

I agree with your post if we were a rich club we would have just sacked him and paid him out.

Thing is we lose more money from keeping him on. The gate will be down. Sales will be down.

All because someone has to save face.

Terrible call by the club. Another bad decision to add to the list of terrible ones. Until we start consistently making good decisions which starts with appointing the right people in the right roles we ain't going to achieve shit.
interesting thought process i would think regardless who the coach is its the performance of the players that ultimatly puts bums on seats so given our list issues say we are a 5-9 win prospect next season it wouldnt make a fiddlestick of differance if it was Richo in the box or if it was Ratten as head coach.. the main issue with gate takings was the fact we had 12 rounds of consecutive losses followed by a 6 game losing streak to round out the year..
a new coach makes a differance but realistically in their first year its not a massive differance so i dont think having richo still in the coaching seat changes our gate takings at all.. if we start winning more and if we start playing more attractive footy then we will see an improvment

double LMAO.

So now you're saying we kept Richo just so Finnis can save face?

Step away from the computer please.

Ok CF... if those are your audition shots for official club photographer, you’ve got the job :D
Thanks for posting.

Not my work. Taken from the Saints Facebook page.

I just figure that some of us won’t have access to these and it’s nice to get some visuals on the preseason thread.

I have never been to a Saints match because of a coach.

Probably went to more games in the Lyon era and he coached that dour defensive rubbish that was hard to watch

I’ll wager that Clav got the most of that one.

Hhhhm. McCartin and Battle both look to be in sync. So in my book the odds are 2:1 that Clavarino went early (maybe trying to body Paddy rather than genuine mark?) and McCartin May beat him on the rise.

ditto .... to say the coach is changing the attendance and club sales is very strange indeed ... i mean i recently purchased a new training shirt from the club .. i reckon i would have done so regardless of who is coach ... at last check we were still tracking about 25K members to this point of the year so still around the mark of previous years .. remember a few years back the big hype was us smashing membership numbers by getting 25K before the 25th of december
