Dunno m8 I feel as though trading a member of the leadership group and a top 25 pick to move down in the draft order and save $450k for a weak free agent pool isn't really ticking any boxes for me

Bank the cash for when we are ready to actually compete.

How many top 5s bnf? 0
How many AA? 0
How many premierships? 0

How many houses is he currently renovating? 2+

I'd prefer that $450k spent on someone younger and better.

If he can leadership, let him leadership in Carara.

43 + MacMillan for 26-30 would be awesome except we are only dealing with realistic trade scenarios these days.

Ok, for the Ziebull and Quintero sake let's go with your collective take that MacMillan offers us nothing as a footballer.

Use your noggins.

We're probably not hitting 2020 with massive cap concerns. So there is no urgency to clear a player off the list for 1 year.

No one is going to offer a decent pick outright for a serviceable player a year from FA.

Therefore retaining him wins. It is less hassle to hold him for a year than sweeten the deal for another club to hold him. Or we could just delist him and cop his payout in the cap.

This is not my view on him but a clinical one re the best outcome for the club if you concluded he has no place at the club.

I should start my own AFL Trade page on Facebook, I can post anonymously, talk out of my ass with made up trades, I could get a ton of likes. :tearsofjoy:
Twitter is much better for entertainment purposes.

The only bloke you can trust is that tradeguru69 bloke.

Getting Macmillan off the list is not for cap reasons like you say this is purely to ensure we don’t have to have him in the side at all under any circumstance and instead have younger more skilled players getting guaranteed opportunities

Stick him in the VFL for a year then. Tell him now "mate you're not in our plans, up to you if you want to play the year out in the VFL or seek other opportunities in football or life".

If we were set on him not being part of our plans there's ways of doing it that don't require us to get diddled by other clubs at the trade table.

I'm curious why in this hypothetical you wouldn't just delist him, put him on the rookie list and push him off into the sunset?

More than happy to delist Macmillan and cop the one year payout

Getting that extra list spot would be well worth it

Did anyone hear Kingy and Sam Mc Clueless with Whately on SEN this morning discussing us trading Goldy to Geelong AND paying his salary for 2 years or was I hearing things ?

So let me get this straight, for North to pay his salary and do what King wants

We have to:

- Re-sign Goldstein on the exact wage Geelong are willing to sign him for
- Instantly trade Goldstein and come to an agreement with Geelong regarding trade value
- Absorb a % of this new contract into their TPP over the length of the contract

Goldstein would have to sign with North, but think he is eventually getting to Geelong, even though under the current AFL envirnoment, if North and Geelong simply can't come to a trade agreeement, he's stuck on the Geelong agreed wage at the club he wanted to leave.

OR

He signs as an unrestricted free agent to Geelong and compensation magically appears for North out of thin air from the AFL. North cannot absorb any of this contract as his contract has been paid out and is expired at North Melbourne, this isn't a hard concept for King to understand.

I wonder which is more likely.....

I had to investigate this and Kingy actually said this scenario was re. GWS approx 2 min in

We get $450k+ cap relief. An enormous sum by any measure.

I don't quiet understand the angst people have toward reading trade ideas or trade fantasy (in our favour) in the actual Trade and Free Agency thread 7 months out from our next game.

7 ******* months.

Ignoring people who want to see an improved and sustainable side feels counterproductive to the idea of a discussion board and frankly a little bit petty.

I dgaf either way, everyone is wired differently but je-fuking-sus the expectation shouldn't be the same as a closed WhatsApp group with your mates.

Paz.
I don't quiet (sic) understand trading out a player and a pick to receive a lower pick either.

We don't have cap pressures so not sure the need to downtrade our picks just to release perceived $$$.

Hardly angst. What do you expect but a dose of ridicule if you suggest that we trade a player plus a pick for a lower pick. In what world does that make any sense??? JMac is not that terrible a footballer, to warrant us to having to go into negative territory in the steak knives department.

Ok can we stop using the term moneyball because in the cases being thrown around these are just fringe players who will be fringe players for us, it is not like baseball where there is an alternate way of contributing to the side other than getting the ball or stopping others from getting it. I’d sooner make no moves than pick up 99% of the names bandied about.

Didn’t Adelaide and geelong do the sign and trade to get Dangerfield over? It can be done if Geelong want. It would be beneficial to them if they want cap relief , for that relief there is a price

Adelaide matched the FA offer forcing it to a trade which then required arbitration.

I think they agreed a trade in lieu of doing the whole "bid then match then trade" process.

Not really relevant regardless as Todd isn't restricted.

On the market for "still a few weeks" is a worry. Means he is yet to commit and still gettable.

A very plausible explanation could be that the season is over, he’s taking some holidays with the family will go into the club and sign when he gets back before hitting the track??? Nah sorry that’d make too much sense. He probably just loves reading this thread taking the p1ss out of the panic merchants on here.

Well this is true... I remember the days before the draft very well. Paddy said how much he'd love to be drafted by North about two days before the draft as he was a BFNAAK and to be honest it looked like happening but then the day before the draft some of our eagle eyes noticed he had removed North from his Instagram and IIRC put up a Carlton logo so we figured they'd given him the word they were taking him.
