Genuinely interested to read how and why. Do you rate SPP ahead of Ely Smith.

I’ll admit he’s a kid I didn’t like at U18 level, and I dislike him even more now. His kicking is baaad.
I agree Briztoon, SPP is a product of the Ed Langdon school of kicking. Not with a barge pole.

Tom Papley will be a great get by Carlton if they pull that off.

I really rate Papley, but must admit, I would be pretty dirty if I was a Sydney fan given the opportunity they afforded him as a rookie and this is how Papley replays them.

That being said, I reckon a few mature players are going to get on the Carlton train in the coming month(s).

It’s not down to whether I rate him above Smith or not. For mine, it’s about improving the list and I can see him doing that in the long term.

I’m all for adding a player who can win his own ball and break away from congestion. He’s young and still learning. He’s kicking can be tidied up. But he’d certainly give our midfield another dynamic.

I could've heard wrong but which players did Tom Morris mention might be heading to North?

It would be such a Norf thing to do if after missing out on stars year in year out that they start missing out on B-graders too :D

Blues and Saints be looking for everyone.
Clarko and Hawks get someone.

Be interesting who we get.. Will not be a passenger thinking they be gifted games.

I didn’t hear him mention any. All I heard was possibly a three way trade involving Hill (Freo to StK), Steven (StK to Geel) and Kelly (Geel to Freo) and an exchange of picks.

In addition he mentioned Ryder of Port going to either Essendon or St Kilda and Papley from Sydney to Carlton.

No mention of North, but that shouldn’t surprise. Oh, there was Higgins possibly leaving if North release him because he wants more years on top of his one next year, but no mention of suitors. Also, Bruce and maybe Carlisle of St Kilda leaving too.

The Brisbane Lions are attracted to bringing Martin across, mindful that Martin's girlfriend is a Queenslander and moving to Brisbane would not be unappealing for the pair. But a trade between the two Queensland clubs would be extremely difficult.

Wonder why a trade between us and the Suns would be so difficult? Would think we'd have the currency to satisfy them unless it's more that they'd be bitter to let him go to a cross town rival lest he actually fulfil his potential there. They won't really have a great bargaining position with him out of contract and wanting out of the club to boot.

Can't imagine the trade would be difficult. The $$ amount may be though if the rumours of 750k a year from Carlton are true.

We’ve done several deals with them in recent years too - e.g. Hanley and several pick swaps. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I quite like Josh Bruce as a strong marking KPF, would be someone I'd be interested in if our list management team think we need another KPF for a few years while Ballenden, Skinner and Wooller continue to develop and there's a view that McStay may not be the answer long term.

171 goals in 113 games but the first 2-3 years of his career was playing key defense, should come reasonably cheap for a KPF and would be a good reliable mark down the line or one out, 197cm, 102kg only just turned 27 so still a few good years left in him.

Browny hit on it Suns where the lions where a few years back.. Paying overs to everyone each contract becomes the norm, they have no space left. Mentioned a few times why Lyons let go was cap space.
Once someone with talent pops up southern clubs pay overs to just one player to get them down south.
The rest of the list as local happy to not get overs.

David Armitage, 31. Retired from St Kilda but mentioned he would look to continue elsewhere. QLD boy, and I remember mentioning him a few years ago as a possible get. Would be best served at GC but would add Midfield depth especially if we lose a few NEAFL boys like Keays & Cutler. Would come for nothing & be a decent cover for an injury to Lyons or Neale.
Armitage is as slow and as agile as a 55 year old. Injuries have hit him hard over the years. Was a great player 6 years ago, he is cooked now though.

Supposedly Carlton need to trade back for two picks in the teens to trade for Papley and Martin. If Martin doesn't want to come to us, is it worth swinging a trade to get up to pick 8? Our 15, 19 and 35 for their 8 and 44?
I'd do that or similar for pick 8, you'd get a very good prospect with a top 10 selection, eg. Brodie Kemp, Caleb Serong, Will Gould, Hayden Young, Lachlan Ash... with a bit of luck one of them could fall to pick 8.

Good to see baby brother following big brothers example, all they need now is their own version of Chris Fagan.
I'm betting when Port finally sack Hinkley, he'll return to the Suns as a senior assistant. He's not as competent as Fagan of course, but he at least provides coaching experience, and I don't think the Suns are about to sack Dew in the next couple of years.
