What about the possibility of Eagles being delisted, continue to play 2’s and potentially coming back on in mid season draft?

Would rely on us having a list spot free or a LTI. List spots probably won't be an option by the sounds of things but I guess if we only want him as a backup for injuries it could work. Not sure if he could play in our reserves though if he's not on our list and it would open us up to other teams poaching him.

You can’t redraft someone in the mid season draft who you delisted previously.

Not sure about the SSP, but have a feeling it’s the same.
You can if they nominated for the previous year's draft. So if Eagles is delisted, nominates for the 2019 draft and then is undrafted, he can be signed in the mid-season draft - even by us. The rule is only intended to catch retirees going back to their original club.
Clubs will be able to draft any footballers who have already been on an AFL list, or who nominated for the 2018 NAB AFL Draft.

Any player delisted at the end of 2018 cannot be re-selected by the club that delisted them, unless they nominated for last year's NAB AFL Draft.

Would ellis really be that bad. I dont think he would walk into our best 22. I guess he would be in the same situation here as at the tigers. Waiting on injuries to get a run and hoping he plays well enough to stay there. He would certainly add depth and pressure for spots. ibdont think he would want to put himself in that same position so i dont see him being a realistic trade option.

Having said that i would be happy to have him if he ended up here. I think any of those mentioned here the last 10 or so pages could be a benefit to the club. Ellis, Elliott, Greenwood, Powell Pepper, Ceglar etc. I dont think we need a crouch or another big name, high cost midfielder, but one or two good fringe/experienced mids would be handy.

Id love to hold on to eagles as well if we could, i see he has been playing more ruck time in an attempt to make him more versatile. Unfortunately tho i think if we cant cat b re rookie him, he will be delisted. I think adams, walker, payne, possibly skinner as well pushes him down the list too far. A shame tho, i did enjoy watching him when he got those games. Showed he did have something to offer.

Some tough choices to make this year, who stays who goes. He will be just one.

one player i would love to get in this upcoming trade period is conor-mckenna great game against the pies. I wonder if the lions could get involved in a mega trade deal with multiple clubs to provide us with a. Gain of Conor to our backline. I will open the floor to everyone on this board. What would such a trade look like. Know he has alot of fans here and I am joining them in saying he would, undoubtedly be a massive get. Speed and skill and right age bracket.what more could one ask for. Could he be ,the next a grade type neale trade at the lions ?
Ps a massive no to ellis

Great player. We were linked to him a couple years ago when he was OOC. Can’t see him leaving the Bombers but would be a welcome addition to our best 22 and improve our side.

Re-sign or let go?
Out of contract: Ryan Bastinac, Allen Christensen, Tom Cutler, Matt Eagles, Mitch Hinge, Luke Hodge, Ben Keays, Ryan Lester, Corey Lyons, Nick Robertson, Sam Skinner, Lewis Taylor, Josh Walker

Hodge is tipped to retire at season's end – maybe after a fifth premiership – but nothing is confirmed yet. Christensen is in negotiations on a new contract and will be at the Lions in 2020, while Lester is also expected to continue. Robertson's played only four senior matches this year and has interest from multiple clubs if he elects to seek greater opportunity. The Lions have applied to the AFL to retain Eagles as a Category B rookie for a fourth season next year. Walker has been in and out of the senior side a bit, while Cutler and Taylor fell out of favour this season and may explore their options.

Any interest in Bailey Williams from the dogs? Word he may be looking for more opportunity.. would fill an area we are a tad light in I believe, and wouldn't cost a whole lot.

Now the melt down over the Richmond loss has subsided some what, and we are not trading out most of the team and certainly the whole forward line (not my thoughts) I'm still very positive and haven't changed my thoughts on the list or our chance to win the GF. We will have somewhere around pick 19 and pick 15 in the draft, most likely these will slip as I believe the Suns will get a priority pick if they improve some off-field positions as well. It's not a lot to trade with in a non-super draft and I think we might be better going to the draft with these picks. So in my head it's the Adams/McCarthy types we are looking for. A bit fringe type somewhere else. With Steph going another year now we could go low on a developing ruckman or like Big O take a rookie we think might improve enough in a year. Depends if Archie has a look even after singing we could swap. If we do trade one of our top picks, packaged with someone wanting more opportunity it will be a high bred midfielder of most need. Probably one who can play in the backs at times if there is such a thing. I'm much more buoyant about Ely than I was mid season so someone with a good 3 or 4 years in them to plug the gap now. Then off to the draft looking for brothers, cousins and best mates.

Imo Hodge will retire and take up a development coaching role. Basti will be delisted, as will eagles unless we get that concession from the afl. Lester will be re-rookied if a spot is available after trade/draft weeks. Cutler and N Robbo im happy to be traded out. I hope we persist with skinner but i can see him delisted if a list spot is needed for a trade in to the squad.

The rest i would re-sign. Keays, Taylor and Walker are certainly in our best 25-26 players and are our only reliable depth at the moment (matho also). Hinge showed something in the afl games he played worth holding onto. Corey Lyons is unlucky not to have got a run in the firsts by now and will be held onto.

I think we draft our minimum 3 kids and trade in 3 depth/best 22 players. I dont think we need to make too many other changes. 3 more depth/best 22 players and if 2 or 3 youngsters take that next step, we will see a squad with 30-33 capable best 22. Our great run without injuries cant last. We need this depth and then the developing kids evolving to be a strong successful club for many years to come.

There was a little bit of talk about the Lions being interested in Jonathon Ceglar, he had a pretty good game on the weekend for the Hawks. Might definitely be worth a look as a backup for Stef and with ????? On Archie stepping up. Could be worth a punt.

When your side is in the premiership window you have to be aggressive in pursuing players in the off season to improve the side. We've built a really nice list. Now we need to add even more top end quality to push us into an extended window. Zac Williams would still be my preferred target. Rumours doing the rounds today that Cogs is likely to stay with GWS and with Cameron and Whitfield OOC next year and Coniglio, Kelly and Greene on the books someone like Williams may be squeezed out. He'd be another AA level player to add to our midfield/half back flanker stocks.

Zac Williams would be an absolute dream scenario pickup, right up there in value to our side with Neale and Cameron IMO and is showing now that he can go through the midfield very well, perfect age bracket as well.

Yep he'd step straight in as another gun mid alongside Neale, Zorko and McCluggage and give us even more flexibility.

What would we have to give up for Z Williams or is he a FA next year?
Yes, OOC and restricted free agent at the end of 2020. As lionshine? said earlier could be someone squeezed out by salary cap pressure if the keep on Coniglio and co. Would be great to get one of them to come north instead of south.

SPP is someone I’d be quite confident we could get the best out of.
Genuinely interested to read how and why. Do you rate SPP ahead of Ely Smith.

I’ll admit he’s a kid I didn’t like at U18 level, and I dislike him even more now. His kicking is baaad.

Patton should free up some space though. Is there any connection or is this a BF pipe dream?
