As God is my witness, finding anything useful on the AFL.com.au site is practically impossible, may whoever designed it burn in hell.

Mid to late 2nd round - 3rd round?

The deadline for academy and father-son nominations is Thursday, 25 November, which means the Gold Coast Suns will this week be naming their pre-listed rookies, with up to six places available on their expanded rookie list.

Confirmation came this week of 2021 list sizes for all clubs, which when applied to the Gold Coast Suns means they can have 36 to 38 primary listed players, two category B rookies and ten to 12 category A rookies, making a total list of 50.

At the conclusion of the 2020 season the Suns had three players retire from their primary list, delisted two more and also delisted five players from their rookie list. In the trade period they signed two players in free agency, quietly added a player to their category B rookie list and traded out a primary list player.
Hollands and Lake? :)

Watched both of their vision, albeit mainly highlights and I would pick Tilt over McDonald.

In saying that.
I would pick Hollands after bidding on JUH and Campbell to help those chances. Would be happy to have either on our list.
There's no chance Sydney don't match hes a top5 prospect. We cant let them get a top 5 from academy and pick 3.

1.JUH (WB)
2.Campbell (SYD)
3.Hollands (ADEL)
4.DGB (HAW)
5. Thil/Phillips?

We need to try and move up swap first with Hawks? They will expect to finish higher.
I thought we should bid on Campbell but what stops them trading pick 3 to GC for 2021 1st and take Campbell with points.
Then 10 minutes latter GC trade pick 5 for Sydney 2021 1st.

Its a bloody rort

We have in the top few membership and supporter bases, and represent an AFL centric state.
we make the most or nearly the most profit every year.
we have state of the art facilities and home oval.
we are in the top half dozen win/loss percentage over the last 20 years

we are definitely one of the most powerful clubs, who should be the most powerful.
we have certainly made mistakes which have cost us more premiership success and short term culture, but we will bounce back very quickly.

Hmmm let's see;

We have in the top few membership and supporter bases, and represent an AFL centric state.

I would think top few would mean top 3. We aren't that. I would also argue that from my observations of kids around Adelaide, that our once 70-30 hold on the supporter base in SA has shrunk considerably. You know the old saying "Never give a sucker an even break"? We gave them an even break, a hand out and a help up. We literally shot ourselves in the foot.

we make the most or nearly the most profit every year.
Not even close. This is simply not true. Our financial performance is probably 'satisfactory' at best. From the market position we had, we should be utterly dominating this area. The fact we aren't is appalling.

we have state of the art facilities and home oval.
And yet we are trying to leave both. Can't be that great...

we are in the top half dozen win/loss percentage over the last 20 years
With zero premierships to show for it. Congratulations club, you have been slightly above average for an extended period...

I thought VFL killed that scenario?

Doubt GC do that.
not so sure. I had it in mind that you could not trade the same pick more than once but if each trade involves separate picks than that is fine so the trade proposed above would work. But others may be more across that

FWIW, no doubt Sydney will have already spoken with clubs about that very thing in the unlikely event a bid for campbell comes in before pick 3

Hollands and Lake? :)
If I was Brodie Lake who I'm certain would have AFL club interest I'd put myself in the open draft where he'll get a guaranteed 2 years on a main list and likely more chance of a decent AFL career. From what I hear the GCS haven't put too much work into the NT lads anyhow just sitting back reaping the rewards.

Maybe they are tied to the GCS under the AFL priorities? If not I know what I'd be doing if I was one of the higher profile NT lads.

This is the last year of this bullshit.

Make them pay up, i don't care if they move around picks at least we stopped an oppo getting a free top5.

What happened to Rosas? He looked so raw.

I'd definitely settle for that even if we miss Hollands and Maher. :)

Are we drafting these SA kids because they are the best option at each pick or because they are SA ?

I wouldn’t be overly happy with those selections other than Perkins with our blown out pick 9

don’t want Durdin, by I would have thought Poulter at 28 is a good selection?

If the crows are legitimately only taking 4 picks and we believe that Newchurch and Borlase are two of them, I just can't see a way where we aren't trading picks 9, 22 + 23 for one really high pick in 2020 draft (I have used pick 5 below) and another 1st for 2021.

I personally was really hoping to add 6-7 new faces in 2020 draft, but I understand the list squeezes (plus opportunity to land Hately) have stopped that.

Still, if we end up with;
Pick 1: Logan McDonald / Riley Thilthorpe (FWD)
Pick 5: Elijah Hollands / Tanner Brahn / Will Phillips (MID)
Pick 40: Tariek Newchurch (FWD/Wing)
Pick 55: James Borlase (DEF)

PSD: Jackson Hately (MID)

PLUS Set up for (a stronger) 2021 draft with: 2x 1st Round picks, 2x 2nd round picks, 1x 3rd round pick, 2x 4th round picks.

That's a pretty strong mixture of additions really, PLUS puts us in a strong position for 2021. Remember, no one rebuilds from ONE draft.
My understanding is that'll we'll use 4 picks + match bids on Borlase/Newchurch or (hopefully) see them through to the rookie list. Not 4 picks, including Borlase/Newchurch.

Currently (incl. Hately) we are sitting at-:

Primary List = 32
Cat A Rookies = 3
Cat B Rookies = 0

If we use 4 ND picks + matching bids on Borlase and/or Newchurch, then our Primary List will be either 36, 37 or 38. (The hope is that Borlase/Newchurch aren't bid on and they can go straight onto our Cat B rookie list).
This then leaves 1-3 Cat A rookie list spots available, depending on, once again, whether Borlase/Newchurch are bid on.

The perfect result, for me, would be-:

Primary: 32 + 4 ND picks = 36
Cat A Rookie List: 3 + 3 RD picks and/or supplementary additions next year = 6
Cat B Rookie List: 0 + Borlase & Newchurch (no bids) = 2
Total Squad = 44 (the maximum)

Anyway, don't take any of the above as being correct... just my understanding!!

I didn't think you were that bullish on Caleb Poulter? But there has been a few that are quite bullish on Ford. Also is O'Driscoll at 11 a reach?

Not sure where you got that idea from but I certainly wouldn't take him with our 2nd pick and O'Driscoll might be a stretch with our 2nd but I'm happy enough to take all of O'Driscoll, Poulter and Ford at those respective picks. All very damaging footballers with penetrating if not elite kicks.

Only thing that needs work in Poulter's skill set is his inside/contested game...big upside.

See you all in the Eddie Ford pocket

I thought his kicking was the big question mark on O’Driscoll?
penetrating but tends to hack it forward a bit?

I thought I said as much in my post, not that he's a terrible kick either, inconsistent probably covers it.....Nothing that can't be worked on in an elite system.

man the thilthorpe fanboys here are making me dislike the guy and he doesnt deserve it.

no way is he pick 1 material.

if we got hollands at 1 and thilthorpe at 5 after maybe trading with gold coast that would be way more reasonable.

Ironic - your incessant bleating about Thilthorpe makes me like him more, almost to the point where I'd like to see Hamish holding up a sign saying 'FU Brett Cummings' as he picks Thilthorpe at pick 1.

They can do that, but they can't trade 3 back to Sydney.

I disagree with the potential for clubs to be able to trade once a bid is made. If you want to trade, do it before the draft or when your pick comes around.

I'd definitely settle for that even if we miss Hollands and Maher. :)

That's early on Thilthorpe and O'Driscoll, IMO. Probably a little late on Poulter too, I think he'll go before that.

Are we drafting these SA kids because they are the best option at each pick or because they are SA ?

both look like great prospects I reckon. the SA factor may come into play in terms of helping lineball decisions, but they both add dynamics that we are lacking in.

Would you take Maher, Chapman or Baldwin ahead of O'Driscoll?
