Grainger-Barras is injured which is why he's not been picked for the U17s Futures game. Surprised that the Vics have so many going when their U16s teams had 1 combined win between them in last years U16 Champs?

the Vic talent doesnt look as deep in 2020, but the fact Victoria has 3 times bigger crop of talent to choose from than any other area means theres always going to be a large amount of high end talent from Victoria

lets assume each draft year 100,000 kids from Victoria, the top 0.1% of that are really good at football = 100 (Vic population 6.35m)
in WA you have a crop of 40,000 kids and 0.1% of that are really good = 40 (WA population 2.6m)
in SA you have a crop of 30,000 kids and 0.1% of that are really good = 30 (SA population 1.7m)
in the non-AFL+Tas a crop of 10,000 kids and 0.1% of that are really good = 10 (Tassie 500k, players from NSW/QLD i would guess is a small percentage as rugby and rugby league take most of the talent that would play AFL normally in AFL states)

then out of those champions you get the best possible kids for the AFL which is probably half of these kids get recruited, so you end up with 50 vic kids, 20 WA kids, 15 SA kids, 5 non-AFL + Tas kids per year on average, obviously these numbers are not correct, but thats the general idea.

its just population numbers(maths), if there is bias its minimal and mainly to do with the school football systems around the country.

If Vic is weak or strong, they might get a slight bump, same for WA and SA or even Allies, the slight bumps are in single digits though, they usually arent huge, the only time it could be huge is if Victoria has a terrible crop and that would be bad for the AFL and the draft as a whole imo.

I know there's more Victorian kids which is why there are more of them going and not really claiming bias but seemed like the Vics had a terrible year in the U16s last year and there were a lot of underagers in the WA system that had pretty decent seasons. Just doesn't seem to add up for mine because I think there's a lot of WA boys who probably should be there (and some who shouldn't also).

Wondering if anyone knows anything about a couple of the WA boys named in the Grand Final curtain raiser. Blake Morris, Jack Carrol, Shannon Neale, and Heath Chapman are all named but havent been getting as much attention as some of the other boys. Will more WA kids start to get attention next year when it becomes there draft year?

Heath Chapman is a beast. His ability to intercept mark is elite.

I cant comment on the two other players but I have no idea how Blake Morris got selected over numerous 2002 boys who have performed exceptionally well at Colts this year against older players whilst Blake was only playing futures. He performed well at the national U16 carnival earlier this year but he was a year older then the competition!

Think Jack Carroll is aGeraldton boy. Who got a late call up for the national 16s last year and performed admirably on a wing against 2 vic teams. Small wingman who can go in and out. Good pressure and can use it.

There's your answer. Shannon Neale had one pretty decent U16s Champs game this year as an overager and has been beyond dreadful at colts level. That being said, Morris' two colts games were fairly decent but there are at least 20 kids I'd have taken to this game before Neale on this season's form. It's genuinely baffling and it makes it look like they haven't paid any attention to this season's colts competition and are only basing it off rep footy.

Oliver Davis - Tas must be inj
Charlie Lazzaro - Geel
Sam Berry - Gipps
Jack Ginnivan - Bend
Josh Clarke - East
Jackson Cardillo - Cald
Denver Grainger-Barrass - WA (great intercept defender)
Charlie Byrne - Murr / Allies

Have you seen much of Alex Davies.
Looked good playing in the NEAFL toward the end of the year. Is a big kid 190cm midfielder.
More than held his own against a depleted Sydney midfield who still had more experienced Zac Foot, James Rose, Mcinerny, Wicks, Ling.

i saw him earlier in the year and he stood out as a good young prospect, didnt get a game for the Allies, not sure he even got in the squad, but he is a good inside mid and was one of Gold Coast Academies better users of the ball.

Good user, sounds promising. Was a bit disappointed he wasn't in the mix for the Allies.

This was written on an AFL.com article from the u17 vs. New Zealand game earlier this year

Another to impress was 189cm midfielder Alex Davies, a 17-year-old from the Cairns Hawks and Gold Coast Suns Academy who's been compared to Scott Pendlebury. His clean hands and composure with the ball stood out, along with his pace for someone of his size.

Sounds promising. A tall midfielder, who has some pace and can use the ball well.

Oh baby should you be excited. He has awesome pace and power. I first saw him place in an internal trial for the U/16's and his explosion out of stoppage was phenomenal. Placed in defence at the champs and didn't exert himself. He has serious acceleration and could kick it 55 as a 16 year old. Some of the things he does are unreal. He could rocket up draft boards if he continues to improve next year. He is so explosive in the air that as a small defender he played on a 198cm forward last week and didn't look out of place. That player was Riley Thilthorpe who would be top 5 next year at this stage. Anyway as you can tell I love him.

Can anyone give me a run down on Ethan Baxter? What's he like as a player? And where is he projected to go next year.

Obviously a lot can change but any info would be appreciated.

Watched Oakleigh again today and I'd be shocked if Will Phillips doesn't go top 3. Jarmanna should be top 10 as well and could even see top 5 potential.

Hah. I was thinking Phillips looked a natural footballer and was surprised I hadn't read anything from the draft watchers - didn't realise he was 2020.

He really is. I've watched him play a few times now and I'm just so impressed. I have him at 1 for next season. He is very clean with his hands, fast off the mark, better mark then his height suggests and can use both feet well. Only knock on him is that he is sometimes too safe (handballs too often which is surprising as he is a good ball user) but that is easily fixed. Plays very similar to Rowell at least from what I've seen. I'd love for Collingwood to somehow trade up for him, although, that would be incredibly unlikely.

Anyone got any info on Lachlan Grubb from central Districts (SANFL). Played in the futures match before the GF, looked good and kicked a couple goals (should've had more). Then won the sprint at half time so obviously got some real leg speed. Seems to have played a few reserves games but not in any state squads yet.

I hate when the AFL app streams these games! Unless you watch it live you miss out on it because as far as I'm aware they never store them on the app to replay unlike YouTube etc. Wish it was on fox footy or even available on Kayo!
