The Melbourne pick deal was good for us.

Pick 33 could still end up blowing out to #38+ after NGA and Father/Sons. With the rule changes next year preventing NGAs in the first two rounds, their second pick is guaranteed (excluding father/son pick pushouts) to be within the top 36 (36 at worst if they won the flag) and potentially in a much stronger draft in a year where juniors will actually play. We were never going to use that many picks (even after NGAs) this season, so it makes a lot of sense to stockpile draft capital for next year.

My prediction is their second pick will be around the #23 to #29 mark.

Isn't it only the 1st round next year and the 2nd round the year after with the NGA's? Hopefully I got that wrong?

if that happens for hately then fu** our club is weak.
If that future 2nd round MELB pick ends up pick 28 + .....all we've done to satisfy GWS is use the pick #33, which most were happy with .... PLUS a pick we were unlikely to use on a player (#50)

eddie ford at 22 please. looks absolutely amazing, fierce tackling, contested marking. Was in top 5 in futures game. Can play mid forward much like Holland’s. Check out his u tube highlights again and tell me I’m wrong
Hell, i was sold after the first 30 secs! and yes, strong in the hips and fierce

Down grading to a pick we might not even use. the last time we used a pick south of pick 67 on a draftee was Ben Davis.
Bicks - how do you rate Cook from South ?

2nd round onwards, certainly not as high on him as some seem to be, outstanding overhead but I'd much sooner a guy like Eddie Ford for us personally.
I think Ford would have exploded this season and would have gone much higher than he probably does now.

Mutineer some clarity on the NGA changes:

Under the changes, nominated NGA players will only be eligible to be matched from pick 21 onwards in the draft in 2021. In 2022 the concessions will be pared back even further, with NGA prospects only eligible to be matched from pick 41 onwards.

For next year, you were right, I was wrong. I must've been getting mixed up with 2022 and beyond.

Even still, that Melbourne second rounder next year should be a lot less compromised than a 2020 second rounder. :)

I think either is the right type of player with one of our picks

Ford is the far more aggressive of the two, really attacks every contest with gusto, in the air or on the ground....both can go missing for periods however.

GWS trade with Geelong for Picks 13/15/20, leaving them with Pick 10/13/15/20

We trade 22 & 40 to Bulldogs for their Pick 14

We trade 14 and a future 3rd/4th to GWS for their Pick 20 and Hately.

Leaves us with 1, 9, 20, 23

Leaves GWS with 10, 13, 14, 15

I hope we dont use that Melbourne 2021 2nd rounder on the Hately deal.

Theres every chance the Dees shit the bed next year with so much pressure on Goody and Adem Yze breathing down his neck for a senior gig.

I hope not, we'd be better to trade 23! Wait for the club to say to look at the deal in it's entirety, and it's the same as pick 33...no, it's Melb's 2021/2.
If Melbourne make the 8, and they should..... Pick ends up around the same as 33

They'll make the 8
