Listening to Nick's presser feel like we might be looking at Thilthorpe or McDonald with pick 1. Mentioned key position players at the top end this year.

13 is worth 1212 points
20+21 is nearly 1800 points
21+28 is around 1550 points

So I'd offer them 21+28 for 13, plus mention that we probably won't bid on JUH at pick one (which saves them another 400 points or more).
Way to much to pay if we arent bidding on JUH.
They don't need second rounders and pick 20 & 21 are highly valuable.
Our picks 38 onwards equate to 13 so anything from 28 onwards is enough and if Brad goes no bidding until pick 3 saves around 700 pojnts

awww... Holland’s won’t be there for our later picks... =(
don’t worry he didn’t say that he said midfield was most important but that there was a lot of talls at pointy end of draft

david king calls nicks the doctor of ball movement he will want hollands. TT is not a no 1 and neither is mcdonald

It's not just picks that get added - every early pick needs points to come from somewhere else in the draft.
Yes, there will be plenty of picks wiped out for the points needed for all the matching.

Going to be a strange draft night as the final draft order is going to look nothing like the starting order.

Imo, we should use our great draft hand to advantage. E.g. we should be able to get the Bulldogs 1st pick for a bargain by not bidding on their hot prospect.

What does everyone think as to the biggest needs/positions for the teams with picks 2-7? Looking at their current lists and ages, perhaps:

North: everywhere
Hawks: Key Position Defender, Midfielder
Sydney: Ruck, Key Position Defender, Midfielder
Essendon: Key Position (depending on Daniher’s next move)
Carlton: Midfielder, Small Forward
Gold Coast: Unsure, possibly Key Position Defender?

Could be that one of the quality mids slips through to 8?

I'd actually be quite keen to see if we could tempt say Sydney to part with their pick 4 for our 8 and say 20 assuming we keep B Crouch. That way we can take say Hollands with pick 1 and are LIKELY to still have Thilthorpe on the board at 4 which would mean we get 2 super talents in, use pick 28 hopefully for Hately and maybe get lucky with the Atkins compo as an early 20's pick at band 3?. The rest of the picks for our academy and F/S
it’s not bad but they won’t do it for 8 and 20. would need to get dogs pick for 20 and 21 say 13 then that with 8 might get you pick 4.

i still think if we get band 1 for brad it’s a no brainer and then it’s hollands plus one of TT or ronald. we shouldn’t be fixated on 650 per season that could all change as no one is getting these big contracts anymore in post covid afl comp with less money all round. brad is our best player, reigning b&f, and if any side does not have 1 single band 1 worthy player then the afl has a big issue. he is band 1, and we are just lucky it’s pick 2 because of our spoon.

Assuming we get band 3 for Atkins -

The logical thing would be 20 and 21 for WBs 13.

We take 4 early picks and NGAs. Trade 28 for Hately, knowing that we have a strong negotiating position. WB use the points from 20 and 21 for a JUH bid, before the picks get pushed back (so they get full value for them).

Seems to work for everyone.
We should be able to drive a better bargain that this given the points they would be saving if we don't bid pick 1 & perhaps pick 2.

Is the general consensus that we wont get band 1 pick for brad?
After yesterday's performance quite possibly not. Wasn't his best performance. I'm hoping a contract has been offered prior to yesterday and it was enough for band 1. If it hasn't we may be better off matching and working out a trade or hope for a couple of interested clubs to inflate his price. Part of the attraction of Brad to another club though is that it won't cost them anything other than salary.

There's no doubt been contracts offered to him.

I genuinely hope we use a bulk of our picks.

If we have indeed told 12 players they aren't going to be here moving forward, even if we go down to 38 spots we will need 6 new faces.

We won't want to lose any FA compo by getting one so that says we will use a number of them.

Say we don’t get Brad Compo i can see it falling maybe something like

Adelaide: Hollands (I would take McDonald)
North: McDonald
Hawthorn: Granger Barrass
Sydney: Thilthorpe
Essendon: Phillips
Carlton: Bruhn
Gold Coast: Zach Reid maybe? Or Henry?

Obviously not taking into account NGAs.

Then we probably end up with O'Driscoll

The AFL can easily justify either pick 2 or 20... so going from winless to winning 3/4 of the last games has probably cost us more than anything.

I think a big issue might be the sheer volume of free agent compo picks that could be heading out this year.

Crouch, Daniher, Zac Williams, Jeremy Cameron, Corr, Atkins, Jack Viney ...

You could see quite a few leave and a big backlash to the compo being added to an already compromised draft.

It'll end after this year IMO

Offers would already be in place, clubs aren't going to reduce their offer after 1 quiet game.

Just bid on WB and Sydney players, get them out of the picture and we get more to pick from or we force them to trade. We need to grow up and squeeze them

I think they stay pat with 4. Most draft experts have Campbell top 10 but not necessarily Top 4. They probably call teams bluffs and expect him to get past there first pick.

Campbell is exactly what we need; I’d be happy bidding for JUH at 1 and Campbell at 2 if neither gives us a good trade.

Nah, 20,21 for Melbourne's 10 from North thanks
