It was nice of the club to release a special edition background for our co-captains:

We deservedly deride our social media / marketing team at times, but that is damn funny

Kudos
Must admit to having a belly laugh when I read this .... But then I thought, hell, you might be on to something! If we can all get a petition up to have Alyx join the Social media/video/marketing team, at least we will have plugged one hole in the leaking Port Adelaide ship!

I heard Richo get a bit excited talking about our Rd 19 Friday night game v Hawks at AO on SEN yesterday or maybe it was Thursday.

He was asked why a 6.50pm start and not 7.20pm start. He said its because that Friday night is opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics and it will be a lead in to 7's opening ceremony coverage.

I reckon we might only get 1/2 a game on the main channel around Oz and then get bumped to 7Mate.

When neither Oz or Japan are on Daylight Savings Adelaide is 30 minutes ahead of Japan. Japan doesn't observe daylight savings.

A 2.10 game usually ends at 4.45ish so that the broadcaster can have a 10 minute preview and 15 minute review at the end of the game before the broadcast finishes.

So 6.50pm Adelaide time will be 6.20pm Tokyo time. The Opening ceremonies usually starts around 8pm local time so that the night has set in and the light show can commence. Sunset in Japan is around 7pm in July.

So if the opening ceremony does start at 8pm that would be 8.30 Adelaide time so 2nd quarter would probably ends around 8pm Adelaide time, 7 then go to Tokyo for a bit of BS build up before the official start.

Might not be as big a marketing opportunity as the club is hoping for.

Ken doing a Zen Tea Ceremony at half time will be the perfect lead in.

im very happy with us playing away because i think we have played much better when away than at home in the past 3 years, im not sure why that is but it is.

I think they might try and involve the Sydney teams too in the first stage. It will be like an "interstate" conference. The Vics will love it.
I'd be quite happy for that to be the future (like in the NFL), but with the proviso that the GF move to the highest ranked state every year.

Every year would be an interstate v Vic grand final, would soon water down their 'wins'.

Bringing this post to a better thread:
I haven't stopped to actually read whatever the AFL is trying to do. I also haven't seen any mention to the NSW clubs.

My first impression is that the AFL is thinking on setting two hubs: Melbourne (Vic clubs) and GC (interstate clubs). If so, teams would necessarily play within each hub: VIC v. VIC; rest v. rest.

Thus, there would be 8 teams in GC. Some teams already have played each other (Port-Suns) for instance. Hence, without rematches, there could be 6 rounds [without derbies, it would be 5].

This would give the league at least a month before needing to make a decision on how the rest of the season would play out.

However, although this makes sense to me, I don't know whether this is what the AFL is trying to do.
