Thinking forward to how the game should look, do we all agree that the draw is inequitable?
Played around with figures, etc and as a first draft, came up with this......

* Regional venues = Darwin / Alice Springs / Townsville / Hobart / Launceston / Ballarat etc
Sub Total = games on home base plus Melbourne CBD venues if Non Victorian clubs
Everyone gets 12 "home" matches, including against co-tenants - except Geelong (they get extra game in the Melbourne CBD precinct)
Teams play against Geelong at KP every alternate year (hence why it shows as "1/-"). The years that they miss playing at KP, they play an extra
game at a "regional" venue (hence why it shows as "1/2") - so 2 games in total at regional + KP venues every year for Non-Victorian sides, and
3 games for Victorian based sides
The reason why non-Victorian clubs get 17 games as opposed to 15 for Melbourne based clubs in the "sub total" row is that they only get five (5)
games at MCG and Marvel - whereas Melbourne clubs play 12 at their home venue plus an extra three (3) games at the other Melbourne venue. This
means the Melbourne clubs get 15 games at venues that historically host the most finals games, including the GF, which is a major advantage. The
other "evener" is the one less regional game the non-Victorian sides play

Fair effort that VV.

Unfortunately reality of long term contracts will means this doesn't happen and the Vic MCG tenant clubs ie the big drawing ones wont be sent to regional centres to play a game. Collingwood and Essendon have never played in Tassie and Richmond twice.

Yeah. I know I'm dreaming!
Must have been those drugs I took last night :tonguewink:

Collingwood being contracted to play 14 games at the G each year is a big problem for any of this sort of fixture restructuring.

But that is being contracted to play AWAY games there. If this is true, corruption at the AFL HQ is on "I don't give a sh*t" level.

you must be a foreigner to have not realised this before :)
I am pretty aware, but it is appalling even for South American soccer standards. They could at least TRY TO PRETEND some honesty.

We have an away game in China, but we need to find someone open to play a home game there. Otherwise, there is no game.

Collingwood plays Marvel tenants at the MCG away, while playing home games at Marvel.

Yes its true, it was part of the concessions given to the MCC when the AFL renegotiated the stadium deal to avoid clubs needing to play 'home' finals at the G even when they were from interstate (see 2004 Brisbane 'home' prelim). The other key concession was that 10 of the 12 biggest h&a games of the year need to be at the G. How they decide that I dont know, but I assume it means we'll never see an interstate team play the season opener for that reason.

FFS why didn't Marshall say we will let a NSW team fly in fly out on the 12th when they are going to lift travel restrictions 8 days later on 20th, from NSW. Wasted ****in' opportunity from the drongo and his covid transition team.

So the likelihood is we will get 5 more home games at AO where half the capacity. Should be 6 but its the VFL so Port won't get 9 home/8 away games they will get an 8/9 draw.

Rd 2 home at AO v crows
Rd 4 home at Carrara v WCE
Rd 6 home at Carrara v GWS

Another week in the hub is a big issue for our depth though, too many players missing out on proper match practice.

Frustrating and disappointing that we won't get to attend games until at least Rnd 7.

I’m guessing Vic clubs can’t fly in until round 8?

Our borders open for fly in fly out from the 20th of July. What gets me is half of these hub games are classed as home games for us. Makes a mockery of saying we'd have all these home games at the end of the season. Why are the WA teams being treated different to us and saying they're going to get 6-7 home games in a row?
