Just following on some rumour that we are testing the market for Treloar...

Let's look at Carlton:
  • Cripps clearly needs help in the middle, but also needs someone to release the ball to at contests.
  • Carlton plays a run and carry playstyle, through the corridor much more than other teams, this suits midfielders with speed and endurance
Now Treloar (taking away his injured game vs Sydney):
  • 2nd in Metres Gained Per Game out of all midfielders this year (Only behind danger)
  • 3rd in Clearances Per Game out of all players this year, even his inside work can take the burden off Cripps
  • 1st in Contested Possessions Per Game, 1st in Disposals Per Game, as prolific as it gets
  • Explosive pace around contests, best used as a receiver for his run and carry
  • Good fit for Carlton's game plan
Obviously his disposals can be dodgy at times, but as a 27 yo inside mid with explosive pace who's 1st in CP, 1st in disposals, 3rd in Clearances, and 2nd in Metres Gained, Carlton couldn't ask for a better partner for Cripps.
Josh kelly is a better partner for cripps

Would a later first rounder do ?

I would take Treloar at WC and would trade a forward for him. Would Collingwood be interested in Brander/Waterman along with something else?

No chance given how much Beams/Gibbs/Shiel were traded for
Collingwood would not be interested in either, not whats required. Need a big kpf.
Well Brander was drafted as a KPF and Waterman is probably a similar size to Darling.

The only other option from WC is Kennedy but he might not even play in 2021 so....

Brander and Waterman aren't worth anywhere near enough - Treloar would require a very early 1st rounder in a regular pick trade (Pick 1-4 range) at minimum. Neither of the WC boys would be worth anything more than an average 2nd rounder

Lachie neale was pick 5, treloar probably in the early teens for clubs in the window. Carlton no where near it atm so don’t think it’s a good fit

I think it's more of a matter of quality.

Yeah but that's all WC have and they don't have a first round pick. Also Treloar is not worth a top 5 pick he can't kick and is a couple of years off 30.

Lachie Neale was actually Pick 5 + Pick 19 + Pick 55 for Neale + Pick 30. That's why I put Treloar around a top 4 pick, which is actually a good amount less than Neale.

If the AFL allows West Coast to get around the "must use X 1st round picks every Y years" rule, then something like Brander + future 1st (assuming it's in the high teens) seems fair.

Josh Schache and future first round pick for Jaidyn Stephenson and a second round pick.

So in the past few days there's been this treloar left field trade plus a stephenson rumour thread on bigfooty. Now coincidentally today sen talk about these two so sam edmund hi if your reading bigfooty and nice bigfooty steal. Am i reading to much into this or is sam?https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/09...ut-of-favour-collingwood-forward-is-gettable/

How did you come up with this?
Great accumulator, disposals always been an issue is 27 and won’t be the difference like a neale or danger. 10 to 19 would be fair imo only because he is approaching 30. But again it depends on what other clubs are prepared to give for him.
Shiel was traded when he was younger and always touted more talented than him in hindsight i rather treloar can kick goals.
having said this if carlton trade our first pick for him I’m not complaining. We got pick 3 and got dow and that looks to be a fail. But I wouldn’t trade our kpps for him specially the 2 we have mckay and Charlie.Kpps are the hardest to comeby and we have 2 potential A graders.

Ok so how do you explain the only 2 other comparable trades taking place at twice as much what you're suggesting. Treloar is also younger than Gibbs and Beams when they were traded.

Also since when is 27 yo an age issue? If that's the case are 26 yo also worth less because they are "approaching 30" technically? Most mids play until 32-35 these days.

Can only assume both the pies and crows thought they were in the window and pulled the trigger we are no where near it and as such that is how we would value him. But another team in the window might be happy to pay up for him.

This one is left field.

We're still missing that one key part for defence. We've got Keath who isn't a number one backman. Zaine Cordy isn't the man. Despite my avatar image, I believe Phil Davis would be a great pick up for us, for the remainder of his career. I realise he is contracted until the end of 2021 and also am understanding that the contract he is on, he signed just 12 months ago, but Caroline Wilson has come out and said that he may have been a little bit indifferent to the way captaincy was removed from him. (The players didn't do a vote at GWS for the captaincy, it was effectively a term in Coniglios contract)

I don't know what he's worth so I wouldn't dare offer anything with fears I'll be shot down from either fellow Dogs supporters or supporters from other clubs, but I'd love for us to ask the question.

Gibbs was the equivalent of pick 10 - everyone forgets that the Crows got back the first pick of the second round in a better draft.

What's he 30?
Injured a lot lately
I'd say 3rd round pick.
Nice guy from what I've seen but don't know what he would think if the question was asked to him to do it.

Late 2nd-early 3rd I was thinking.

Being the co-captain of a new club he'd have a plethora of leadership along side Easton down back which would be welcome.

As I said - very left field but I think it's something worth looking at.
