That's unlucky because it's 4th down they can't recover the fumble...if it's 2nd or 3rd down that would be a 1st down
No under 2mins in 4th qtr a fumble cant be advanced except by the fumbler.... Due to Holy Roller play in the 70s

Under 2 mins in the 4th qtr, if a person fumbles, the ball cannot be advanced by another teammate, only the fumbler himself can recover the fumble forward of where the fumble occurred. This is due to a rule change after a 1979s game between Raiders and Chargers, where the Raiders under 2 mins in the 4th qtr kept deliberately fumbling it forward till it went into the endzone and dived on for a TD to win the game

Why only under 2 minutes though? A team could do that all game?

yeah one of the more 'interesting' rules in the book

Late 70's Raiders vs Chargers. Raiders purposely kept fumbling the ball forward to eventually recover in the end zone to win on the final play.

Changed after that. In the final 2 minutes only the fumbler can recover and advance. Teammates can recover but not advance.
