Now lets be reasonable.. how about a compromise?

Port can wear their Prison bars to celebrate their heritage and we'll wear a SA state of origin design.
Or if they dislike that, we can wear the following uniforms to celebrate our heritage
Q1: Norwood
Q2: Sturt
Q3: Glenelg
Q4: Port Adelaide Magpies

After all, we are a club born form all SANFL clubs

I don't really care what costume Port want to wear but...

If there was some old WAFL club that wore the blue red and yellow hoops, a bit different sized hoops to ours but same colours, if they joined the AFL competition as a third WA club I don't think I'd want them wearing what's now our jumper.

Surely if Port wants to wear the prison bars in showdowns only going forward, we should have a say in it.

Sure it’s flattering that they see us as so special that they want to wear fancy dress when they play us.

But in response to the request, kindly, go fu** yourselves port.

In fact, if Chappy wants to leave any sort of positive legacy at this club, the day after next weeks game, he should ring Gil and tell him it must not happen and make a big stink in the media. At least we know we’ll have Eddie on our side.
Our home games we should force then to wear their standard away jumper

A controversial question, but is it just me or is the bar for HoF too low?

Greg Phillips absolutely should be in there, his record is amazing!

Lenny Hayes though? Great bloke, but is he really one of the GREATS, or just a really good player?
297 games
Norm Smith
3 B&Fs
4 AAs

Glenn Archer
Shane Crawford
Simon Goodwin
Barry Hall - WTF!
Garry Hocking
David Neitz
Matthew Richardson
Anthony Stevens

Most of these weren't even the best player in the team at the time.

I think the HoF should be reserved for Dunstall, Lockett, McLeod, Voss, Ablett, Judd, Carey

People who are the first few who are mentioned when it comes to their position.

It seems to be a Hall of Longevity rather than who were the best players
I'd take Garry McIntosh over most of that list

Has been a speaking guest at several of their functions

A couple of years back she was on the radio and was incredibly soft on something Port had done (can't remember the incident) I thought at the time that was odd, I expected a tirade. The next day I heard that she was to be a guest at an AO event the following week. She has become the lowest of the lows, below Hutchy level type thing.

Might have been on Sam Powell Pepper. She was full victim blaming. Was right in the middle of all the #metoo stuff as well so was surprising how easily she folded.

OK First post in a long time.

Port Guernsey Debate

Port want to appeal to their heritage and their traditional supporter base by wearing their prized prison bar guernsey. I have an issue with this not because I am anti Port its because they should never wear that guernsey in the AFL except for the occasional heritage round. Why? because they made an agreement to enter the AFL that signed away their colours, song, image and Guernsey. Collingwood have the right to protect their brand, image and appeal to potential supporters.

If you do a design comparison between the two Jumpers lets use the Crows jumper as an example. If a club wanted to come into the competition with the colours Navy, Gold and Red and had a similar hooped jumper but instead of our pattern there was a big navy hoop in the middle and the other hoops were thinner. that is essentially the exact difference between the prison bars and collingwood. As a Crows fan id be furious.

Port came in understanding the terms and conditions but now they want to amend the rules. Kochie is president of Port Adelaide club because the last time Port tried to rally its traditional base they alienated all their non port sanfl fans and they gave themselves an identity crises. They ended up with tarps as a result.

To this day I think the biggest mistake they made was walking away from their premiership guernsey for the boring back in black jumper. it was powerful and associated with success. Now they are giving themselves another identity crises because they are trying to link with the 150 years. How about instead of trying to relate to a defunct jumper to inspire the passion, why not link to your most recent success, the one the past players from the premiership year from interstate can get behind.

At the end of the day, for all the critique Port level at the Crows at least we've never had an identity crises that was self made (twice) and always stuck with the same basic hoop design (or variations) associated with our image and success.

Return of the Wasleys Rurals

50 games for South and 270 for us. Plus captain when we won those. Not many play 300+ league games and captain 2 flags.

I'm not disputing what he has done for us as a club, but I can think of more deserving players from our club.

He wasn't a brilliant player, and IMO that's what the HoF should be saved for

I can’t. I have him 3rd on the HoF worthy list. Not 3rd best player. I guess that I put a lot of weighting on being a premiership captain.

Not strange at all. One of Collingwoods biggest assets is its brand, being the Magpie and the colours black and white.

They are kind enough to let a team which wears different colours use their branded black and white colours on certain circumstances, but overall wish to retain their rights to their own asset.

Similarly with the logo. As Eddie pointed out, the Port Power Football Club use the Magpie in a lot of its promotion for an AFL club.

In any other business this would not be acceptable. If Pepsi wanted to release a new flavour in a red can with a white ribbon, it would not fly, even if Pepsi's history was of its original factory that had red and white curtains. Similar, if you went to Pepsi's website and saw it was covered with links to their first product, which was a herbal tea called "Coca Teala" then Coke would argue that they are using the Coca Cola brand in the soft drink market.

Collingwood have spent years building the story and brand around black and white, and magpies in the VFL, which became the AFL. Port did the same in the SANFL. Port left the SANFL and joined the AFL. It can't bring its assets with it if they negatively impact an existing AFL club.
Designs can be owned but colours can't, unless they're trying to just falsely copy a known brand for commercial purposes. The crappy Port prison bars design is patently different to Collingwood's black and white stripes, just as other clubs have our colours in different designs. Port can wear black, white or pink polkadots for all I care. They look like a SANFL side in that stupid guernsey and hopefully will play like one.

Agreed, its not meant to be a list of the most brilliant players, whilst it plays a part the impact the player has also comes into it.

Leading a team to two flags is a big factor.
