Yeah the season is basically a write-off but they will try and get back
And I'll support it if its wise to do so, though I'm not convinced coming back in June in the peak flu season will work well either.

I guess the million or so people about to lose their jobs will need to be entertained.....

The package the Feds announced today in unprecedented in terms of national welfare and it still won't be enough to sustain many.

Houses are going to be lost in the 10s of thousands.

You'd think the people who lose their jobs will be desperate for an escape

So they've basically postponed the season as much as possible.

10 week pause. 16 rounds still to play. The pause leaves 14 weeks to the end of the bye week after round 23.

If they think things are going to be 'back to normal' enough in 10 weeks they are very naive.

10 weeks from now we'll likely be very much in the peak of Covid-19.

thats boring man.
people need to feel like their contributing to society/

Most hospitals and health services are currently putting out advertisements looking for EoIs for people to help in non clinical areas.

They're more than welcome to apply to wash dishes, clean laundry or do admin work. We're going to need all the help we can get in that regard if Covid takes out ~30% of our workforce.

Their base payments are about to drop significantly

Government stimulus package is there to help them out if they have to go on the dole, if not they're still more fortunate than a great deal of people are going to be soon.

see im confused as I only work part time and earn less than people on the dole already... and now they're getting double but I still have to go work and from what ive read im not eligible for any sort of stimulus package.

******** Hawthorn. Is Clarkson the best coach the history of the AFL?

Normally not a fan of the competitions CEO but thought he was really good in the press conference. Looked genuinely shattered.

Maybe someone will find a cure by then. There's some talk about Hydrochloroquine (or something or other) being effective. Who knows if governments worldwide will begin rolling it out to hospitals. I'm not really sure what the hold up is myself, to be honest.

Even if we found a cure a month ago, it would not be available 10 weeks from now, let alone in sufficient quantities to meet world demand.

hydroxychloroquine was used in china and there are a fair number of indications that it was effective. However China doesn't have the rigorous safety and testing standards the west does. Now with some of these drugs they have the advantage of being already used for other things (Malaria in this case) so we already at least know a little something about the side effect risks in a general sense. However there's a long way to go before it's used at scale as anything other than a means of last resort in a health system that can't cope otherwise (e.g. Italy).

If we resort to using a drug untested for this purpose it means that our health systems have made a conscious choice to suspend huge amounts of procedures and ethical guidelines when it comes to the treatment of patients. That isn't a place we want to be in as a nation, but it is one we may find ourselves in if things go badly.

Is there a celebrity endorsed Gofundme page raising funds to find a cure I can donate to.
