Trade hypotheticals and discussion of how you think or want a trade to happen go here - 2020 FA, Draft and Trade HYPOTHETICAL thread.

If you want to talk about a current Hawthorn player and if they’re staying on the list, it goes here - Should I stay or should I go now? End of season list management discussion (now continued for 2020)

Trade/FA targets thread is for discussion of News about players we are to target via trade of FA. It’s not for “Kane Cornes says we should get this player”.

Draftees sit on anywhere from 60-150k. If their management has them on less than 200k they need to find better agents.
This year Draftees base was anywhere from 80-100k excluding rookies
Minimum base for players this year was $110k if you weren't in your first two years or on the rookie list

Match payments and other allowances will add to that but as will bonuses for top draft picks

Its fine to go to the draft but if thats the strategy surely its worth trying to bring in more than just a 1st rounder and a bunch of 40s? I'm sure there's something in the works beyond what we currently have, but there's so many opportunities to at least improve our draft hand I hope we see something impressive!

So what are we actually doing?

Are we going hard at the draft? (with one first round pick and a handful of later selections)

Are we bringing in existing talent? (Phillips? Treloar? Why didnt we sniff Higgins? Perfect Poppy replacement?)

At the moment we are kinda doing neither?

Im happy with either path, but surely we either add significantly to our draft hand or we bring in some established guys. Commit one way or the other.

I don't think it makes much sense to do this half-arsed.

We either trade in some talent, or get more picks. We look to be doing neither.

I have no doubt we're trying, but nothing seems to be working. If we take 4, 23 and Downie, it's an ok result but I'd like a bit more.

I reckon we are done unless something big happens with gunston .

podcast on hawthorn website. he said that the crows have made a better deal than us in terms of picks and also implied that the crows agreed not to bid on JUH at pick 1.

Had an inkling this would be the case. Sigh,

Unfortunately 23 will be 30+ and Downie most likely gets bid on before that. Much like what happened with Finn

I don't think it will blow that far past 24 as it is atm, there aren't 6 bids coming....

But point is, we've got 4 more days to make some stuff happen

Sounds like Adelaide might give 22/23 (we have 24 after Brouch compo).
That’s good for us, as they get used up and we would push up 1 spot after that bid.
If that’s the case, and there are 4 bids before us, we’ll push back 2 spots.
JUH, Campbell, Jones will go before us, McInnes, Gulden, Downie possible in that range, but they often go later than expected.

I think there’s about 8-9 bids coming before 30. At least 7 bids before our pick.
Agree plenty of time to move 24 on. Maybe a player gets linked to us? We can hope

23 and 33 is about 80 points worse than the max we could offer. When you add in an agreement not to bid on JUH with pick one, the dogs come off about 400 points better than they would dealing with us. Can't blame them for taking the better deal overall

Will be disappointing if we finish this trade period without Phillips and with Hartigan as our only inclusion.

We've all been wanting the club to 'go the draft' for a while now and we choose the most compromised year to do so? Quality footballers who would improve our side have been made available this off-season and it looks like we'll ignore it.

Could still very easily grab a Phillips type and make the most of this years draft, then go in heavy next year when more will be on offer. That's still what I'm hoping happens.
