List managers of all 17 clubs phones just rang with a voice message left, “Afternoon, this is the Adelaide Football Club, we are having a full rebuild at the end of the season. Give us a call back and let’s talk.”

Just had a look at their list, uninspiring reading, not much on there that I'd be interested in.... maybe Ben Keays.;)

"We should have gotten more than pick 12 for Charlie Cameron."

Weren't we linked to Laird and/or Smith in advance of their free agency?

We are stacked with defenders though, Laird in for Birchall for 2021?
I was thinking that too. Seems like an obvious option - one of those two at any rate.

We are eating our own after only 2 games. Lets see how the year turns out

I believe we were at one stage.
Think with our youth playing and not playing we may need salary cap to retain some players

Hardly eating our own S5, this is a trade speculation thread, Grant Birchall will be 33 before next season starts and has had an horrendous few years with injury, I would have thought a 7 years younger Laird for Birchall would be a good in and out for us.

The club are obviously worried about his durability as they only gave him a 1 year contract, who knows if he has a good injury free year he may get another year and no need for a player like Laird.

Brodie Smith will be 29 before the start of next season, and Laird will be 27.

Personally I would rather the soon to be 26 year old Zac Williams from GWS, who wouldn’t cost a draft pick.

Laird is an attacking footballer who doesn’t like a contest. We just recruited the much younger Ah Chee to play that role.

Smith has peaked.

If there is one player I would like from Adelaide, it would be Darcy Fogarty, but they’re not going to sell their youth.

Yes, definitely prefer Zac Williams.

Maybe a overreaction by me using that term.
But still trade talk on a guy we just bought into the club after 2 games

You are correct that it is a trade watch thread
You are also correct in the one year deal would be because of injury concerns.
If he has a great year i wound imagine only another 1 year deal would be on the table.

What I did see from Birchall after the half were those few kicks from the back half on the 45deg which did open things up. The only issue is his age and this is the 2020 trade thread with the look of bringing in players for the future. Brodie Smith does do this and on a better team excels. However what would Adelaide want for him that makes it worthwhile for them? He isn’t a first rounder. Zac Williams is not as good as a kick but he breaks those lines and provides that run which we also do not have. Would love Williams but think a kick out of the backline like Smith would be beneficial. However I think the club tried to cover this with players in Birchall and Ah Chee and would it in one way admit a mistake if they were to go that way? I would love a side kick to run and go with Neale. McCluggage could be that player but who doesn’t love having good midfielders on their team? It will be interesting to see what we can do with list cuts and $alary cap reductions.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on targeting and inside bull like Ollie Wines. Neale plays inside but another big body to protect him could be huge for us!

We’ve got CEY as the mature option for for that role. We also spent first round draft picks the last two years on young options. Not sure we need to go to the well again for this.

Yeah I can understand that, I would just much rather wines over CEY hahah! He was serviceable in the 2nd half yesterday though I’ll give him that! Seemed to spend a heap of time up forward

Zac Williams is the dream get aside from say J Cameron or a fully fit Daniher. GWS will be hard pressed to offer much after keeping a raft of stars in recent years and have an abundance of talented replacements. He may however be more interested in a club who can offer him more time as a genuine mid. If he comes to us it would probs be as a halfback or possibly a wingman.

Also open to the idea of Nankervis from Richmond especially if Martin retires. From what I can gather he is a similar player to Martin (maybe not as beastly phisically) in that he gets around the ground well, takes strong marks and links up well.

We need to be chasing a solid number 1 ruck for a few years time. Big O does a great job as the 2nd ruck, but we need that dominate ruck to capitalise with our midfield. We should be aiming to line someone up in maybe 2 years to take over from Stef. With a young talented list and how we play our rucks we should be an attractive destination for a decent ruckman.

Outside of that continue to add talent.

Rayner will be a talent. The problem with comparing him to other players, especially ball winning fit midfielders is that he isnt playing that role. Partially because of his fitness he can't play straight up midfield minutes, and perhaps like Rich he might never be that full time mid.

I still think he could develop into a 20 touch damaging goal kicking HF/mid. His application to the defensive work up forward is extremely pleasing and I'm sure is part of his apprenticeship and learning his craft.

Seriously, who’s out there playing second fiddle on a list?
