Witho's endurance is better than Robbo's and quite a few other players who get a regular spot in the best 22. Its his initial acceleration that lets him down.
Really? What do you base that on? I haven't been to pre-season training before but would love to know where they have finished in the time trials, from memory Witho is usually towards the back markers isn't he?

He was the slowest when he first came to the club. Now Rayner takes the mantle for that honor and probably will do for some time. Alex is now mid field.

Maybe it's more a willingness to push himself. Rocky had poor endurance but could still rack up the possessions and run hard late in the game

It could just be WCE came knocking as well.
Might all be up to Witho.. Does he want to stay fight for a spot
Or sees a better fit at WCE.

Look at Lyons.. I have him top 5 player at our team.
Was forced out of Suns
Everyone might laugh at the Suns now although at the time made sense.
Hogan went to Freo for big $ and big picks did not work out
no magical 8 ball

being moved from the suns might be why Lyons has advanced so far.

He was peeved, so when he got here he was determined to prove his worth. He put extra effort and time in to become the clearance tactical wizard, which elevated his game.

Fresh starts are called that cause you get to reinvent yourself. If witho does go (I’m still a day behind) I really hope he becomes clearly best 22 at his new club.

Maybe, but I've always had in my head that Robbo was an endurance beast which is a big reason for him being in the team on a wing. Would be surprising to me if Witho was a better endurance athlete as claimed.

Yes, I've been to multiple off season training sessions over the years and Witho has always looked like he's trudging through snow in the runs, I don't recall where Mitch Robbo was in the field but I would be confident in saying he is not in the best or worst finishers which I can recall.

Best- J.Berry, McCluggage > daylight ???

Worst- Rayner, Witho, Cox ???

briztoon and/or luthor may recall where others finished in the runs.

Rocky has exceptional game sense. Not everyone can read the play like he can though to his credit he really pushed himself to improve physically.

He does often cramp towards the end of games but I do wonder if he just likes the theatrics

I do not think Witho went backwards I think he showed lots early. Like Stephenson at Pies.
Now people expect him to hit higher standards quickly as well.

They brought Birchall in to play and he has.
I agree do not think Birchall set the world on fire although he is being played in front of Witho.
Personally said a few times Rich/Birchall and Witho playing the same role we play 2 of that style.
I like someone with speed out of back 50 which might be what we looking at Cockotoo for.
So then do we need 3 for the same spot.
Not to mention young kids we drafted in Prior and B Smith of HB.
Or Answerth and Hinge we already have

that’s ruined many good people and not just on sporting fields.

So important to have a solid reserves team that draftees play in for a year or two to level out the development and expectation.

Cam had the same experience and struggled to work through it. Still is, but his best is good enough for him to continue to develop in the ones.

Rowell at GC is going to be worth watching. Apparently Dew is basing game plan around the kid. Sitting out this year might have given him space to process the expectations.

Would we all love him as much if he didn't?

Tbh it annoys me at times. Sometimes he flops, doesn't get a free and his opponent keeps his feet and has an advantage. I get that that's Mitch, but does frustrate me.

Robbo puts in burst efforts and gut busting runs to take intercept marks or spoils that I have never seen Witho do.
Robbo struggled a bit this year, particularly through the condensed fixture, whether that is overall fitness or what I don’t know?
But you can not question his commitment.

Isn't Fages the same? Says you take the bad with the good or something to that effect?
Love Mitch, and always will. He's had an immense presence last few years as a Lion but if I was wearing a mouthguard watching games I would've thrown it more than once watching him.

Yes I am aware of that. The fact is he has never been given an opportunity to see what he can offer upfield. I would at least give him a chance to show what he can do before discarding him. He has too much ability to give away without trying something different with him. Plenty of other players have been shifted around to find their best position but he seems to have been pigeonholed from day one, which seems strange to me.

In one of the podcasts Neale said defensive effort was getting players games this year.

witho isn’t know for his defensive work (stats were posted about two pages ago).

our game plan says defence starts in the forward 50. Moving a poor one on one/defence effort player up field will create gaps that opposition can exploit to create scoring opportunities.

Witho has been given opportunities but not been able to meet the coaches expectations, so not getting games.

Going now while he still has runs on the board will be better for his shot at best 22 than if he stays and plays only in the twos for the next two years.

hope he owns it at WC if this trade does happen.

With back line after 2019 we got 4 players in Birchall/Ah Chee, Brock Smith and Prior.
So was somewhere the coaching staff thought we had problems. We then got one back from injury Starc which the coaches would off hoped be so.

This year anyone heard where we wanting to use Cockatoo. Would not mind him off HB as well.
I feel we got him in for midfield/forward although if of HB where I prefer someone with speed instead of Birchall/Witho
There be a lot of players going for list spots there.
Hence might be the talks Witho having.. If you stay you prob play 2nds.
WCE asked the question are you interested.

As said before the J Lyon thing.. He was down the pecking order at Suns.
A change of club sometimes the kick up the bum you need.
Many players kicked on at their second club.
If Witho goes wish him the best although he not gone.
Stef looks out the door as well. I hope he plays a few more years at the dogs well.

A big change from when we had the GH5 and you did not wish them well :)

Rayner >> daylight >> Big O >> daylight >> most of the first year kids >> Rich & CEY > Witho and most of the squad >> Robertson > Berry & McCluggage.

Just my limited observations before Christmas.

Yes he can do that and its his right to do that. He's been told that there are several others in front of him that will be considered for a spot in the best 22 so its in his best interests to look elsewhere. Would you stay at a club if your not wanted and will most likely be playing 2's if you did stay? How is playing resi's all year going to further his AFL career?

If I didn't want to move to the other side of the country...Absolutely...My family are this side of the country and I'm not a fan of Perth...If being told to look elsewhere as they don't consider me part of the 22.. I'm basically being told you're not part of the team going forward...So it's each to their own...I need to make the best of the circumstances presented ...I don't owe anyone anything...I'm contracted and guaranteed of getting paid... There are no guarantees that it's a walk-up start at the other club either...but that's me

I suspect Rayner and the Big O have improved markedly since then. Not sure about CEY. Needs a big off season.

Thanks for your insights Mighty Lions...
