Let’s stick with a basic rule for this thread, that it’s for draft watch and discussion only.

It’s not for trade hypotheticals, who you think needs to be delisted or traded, how many games you think we will win, some other team will win, how many picks you want in the 1st round or discussion of current HFC players.

It’s about youngsters who are eligible for the draft in 2021.

Key dates to look out for:
  • NAB AFL Draft Combine: TBC
  • NAB AFL Draft: Wednesday November 24 - Thursday November 25
  • NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts: Friday November 26

Knightmare has a massive hard on over Daicos which is understandable given he is a Pie's supporter (and an incredible junior talent). Seems to be a lot less bullish on Horne which is going against the grain.

Lyons is a gun though but Horne's ceiling looks magnitudes higher.
Knightmare focusses a lot on stats and outputs rather than traits which favours a Daicos type a lot more than the way Horne plays.

Will be interesting to see how Horne goes in the champs. He easily has the best developed defensive side out of this years crop and seems to be AFL ready plus fairly young (only just turned 18).

The way he moves and gets out of tackles at SANFL level makes me wonder what he is going to do to 17-18 year olds.

I just like that we're going to get a really good player, regardless of which one we take and whether its at 2, 3, 4 or 5
Yep, it’s important to remember that when you give yourself a look at the Top 5, you generally have the option of some very good players.

And if we fall outside of the top 5 picks, just remember....

Pick 11: Will Day.

We will have a number of players that we will be just fine with taking at our first pick.

I think if we nail the next two drafts we are going to be in a great position to have a long term challenge for the back half of the decade. Hawthorn has and always is about sustained success.

We have positioned ourselves beautifully out of the last two drafts with Day and DGB looking elite. If we can fill out the rest of our list in 2021 and 2022 with some A-grade talent (which we will have access to with a top 5 pick this year) it is going to be very exciting.

I'd be stoked with whoever we get this year to be honest. Our last two years have shown that our talent identification early in the draft is top class.

I'm bullish on Roberts too. Couldn't go wrong with him at 2 for mine.

I’m leaning more towards Roberts as well - genuine inside/outside mid who can spread when on the outside - we need 2-3 more of this type of mid. Shying away from Callahan, great on the outside not so much in the inside

Considering he's gotten 31, 30 and 28 disposals playing as an inside mid I'm not quite sure where you got this idea.

I’m concerned about reports by Knightmare that he his contested ball winning capabilities are not strong - basically days that he may be a bit soft. He is known to have got it wrong on a few players and may be here but it’s a massive red flag for me for a potential top five pick

If he dominates at the champs as an inside mid - no issues. Right at this point i would take Roberts before him though. We can’t risk taking another Jack Billings

Knightmare also compared Jason Horne to Jarrad Lyons when they are stylistically very different players. He also rates contested ball winning rate very highly which at the moment Callaghan wins around 30-35% of his possessions in contested situations. Is it an area of weakness? Yes and ideally he'll get the balance better. He has only played 3 games total (4 if you include the half he played on-ball in the Under 19 trials) as an inside mid. Hopefully at the championships that ratio gets closer to 50%.

He also had this to say: "What makes Callaghan special and why he will be appearing in a lot of top-5s at this stage is his work in traffic. He possesses the time and space in traffic of a Scott Pendlebury, yet a burst of speed and dynamic movement on the move more like a Marcus Bontempelli".

You're 100% correct in that the champs will likely decide a lot of things. FWIW my view on Roberts is that he's a good prospect but from the vision I've seen I don't think he's as classy as he's being made out to be. But I'm happy to be wrong and will eagerly support any prospect that wears the brown and gold.

Well it is a one off in the sense he has literally played only one game at that level. But he did look a class above the VFL players around him in that game. His U18 form is reported as being inconsistent
Also played in the AIS game against geelongs vfl team and couldn’t get near it.

Roberts has been known to just throw it on the boot, his ball use with time and space is great but his time inside is just get it forward not what i like to see (this was at under 18s level too) at senior level it's worse. I'd prefer Callaghan much better at everything and has more talent just exactly what we want and a genuine star, his ability like Pendles through traffic to make others look slow and his outside speed and booming left boot is just great. Plays inside and outside and body is well built. His inside work isn't elite but it's not what we need with players we've already got and he can improve it as he has since becoming more of an inside midfielder and dominating with BOGs after BOGs.

Thursday 8 JulyAllies v Vic MetroMetricon Stadium2:00pm AEST
Given Queensland's border restrictions has anybody heard if the game has been moved away from Metricon? It would be great if the game was moved to Melbourne. Also I presume the game will be on Foxtel however will it also be on Kayo?

I watched Daicos play for Collingwood in a VFL practice game and he is an elite talent. His clean ball handling, decision making, ball use, evasion and speed stood out and he was exciting to watch.

Vic Metro vs Country has replaced the game and moved to Friday.

F.Callaghan at our first pick.
N.Erasmus with our new found second.
J.Clarke with our third.
C.MacDonald with our fourth.

There, I said it. 😂

Just quietly liking the Judson Clarke call. Horrible name though
