Ex-AFL players seeking new homes and fresh starts, NAB League prospects out to make their mark at the highest level, hopefuls from the state leagues and even local footballers are among the list of nominations for this year’s AFL national draft.
Nominations close at 3pm today.

As of Monday morning, 717 players had put their names forward to the AFL, including former Blue Levi Casboult and delisted Tiger Patrick Naish, who has been linked with St Kilda.

Four-time Werribee VFL best and fairest Matt Hanson has also lodged his form.
Zdenek Hostalek, 27, who played three senior games for Tooleybuc Manangatang in the Central Murray league this year also took the time to fill out the paperwork.

2021 NAB AFL National Draft nominations as at 11.30am on Monday, November 15

Getting to the point in the year where Twomey is getting a good picture from recruiter chat, mentioned on the AFL Exchange podcast that currently the groupings of talent are;

Tier 1: Nick Daicos, Sam Darcy, Jason Horne
Tier 2: Finn Callaghan
Tier 3: Ben Hobbs, Josh Gibcus, Josh Rachele, Josh Ward, Arlo Draper, Mac Andrew
Tier 4: no specific names, but mentioned it's a group of 25ish
So listening to the newest road to the draft, went through his top 40 broken into 'layers'

Layer 1: Nick Daicos, Jason Horne-Francis, Sam Darcy
Layer 2: Finn Callaghan
Layer 3: Ben Hobbs, Josh Gibcus, Josh Rachele, Mac Andrew, Neil Erasmus, Josh Ward, Tyler Sonsie, Arlo Draper
Layer 4: Josh Sinn, Campbell Chesser, Matther Roberts
Layer 5: Matthew Johnson, Jye Amiss, Sam Butler, Darcy Wilmot, Tom Brown, Jack Willaims, Josh Goater, Toby Conway, Jesse Motlop, Hugh Jackson

so those layers are in order based on his top 25, although he listed Layer 5 in a different order so could be a change to his rankings, then layer 6 is 'in no particular order' but was said in this order =P

Layer 6: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Zac Taylor, Judson Clarke, Blake Howes, Marcus Windhager, Josh Fahey, Jacob Van Rooyen, Connor Macdonald, Joshua Browne, Mitchito Owens, Jake Soligo, Corey Warner, Mitch Knevitt, Shay Linke, Cooper Murley

Probably nothing overly surprising in those layers. Given where Twomey had Goater in his Phantom Form Guide I'm not surprised to see him fit into Layer 5, though I would have him higher. Matthew Johnson I thought would've been higher too but outside of that I don't think there is anything too surprising.

I really enjoyed listening to the interview with Arlo Draper too in this weeks episode. He spoke really well and seemed really comfortable in the setting. I felt like it was kinda hard not to like him after that!

Yeah, seems like a really good kid, seems to be a pretty realistic with where he's at as well which was good to hear

Yeah, i think most top 20's are pretty similar names with different orders atm, from a personal context I think the two differences between Twomey's and mine is Butler/ Draper in his and Goater/ Murley in mine, it's the 20+ where the waters start to muddy a bit, but that's where the champs will hopefully answer some questions, and Twomey said as much.

I will be freaking ecstatic if Goater is there at our first pick, and b***dy ropeable if we don’t pick him.

I’m kind of surprised that Sam Banks isn’t in Twomey’s extended top 40.

Banks isn’t in mine either, he desperately needs the champs and I hope he doesn’t spend most of it at half back.

What does Banks have to prove compared to the likes of Wilmot, Brown and Rayson?
im a big Banks fan, not only of the way he plays, but his voice and leadership on ground and game smarts and also he is a ripping kid watching interviews he has done. I would say he (if we are comparing players to easily define difference) Banks is more of a younger Vlaustin type and the others are (through playing more) showing themselves to be more of the Short, Hind, Saad type running backs, not to say Banksy cannot do that but the others have had more of a chance to show their wares than Banks has.

What does Banks have to prove compared to the likes of Wilmot, Brown and Rayson?
I’m more sold on Wilmot compared to the other 2 aswell. Banks gets a fair few of his touches as handball receives or kick outs which is a bit of a concern in regards to winning his own ball which is why I’d like to see him played anywhere but half back from here on out.

Wilmot stands out because he has the mix right between attack and defence and is hard as a cats head which is a great trait for a player likely to play as an attacking stopper at the next level.

So one would expect some of these kids would be required to quarantine for 14 days upon return to their respective states? (WA and SA kids). I wonder if this impacts anyone in Year 12?
And is Vic letting NsW residents in?

Also, in regards to the AFL futures match held on GF day- from memory this is an U17 game. If the GF is in Perth, what does that mean for kids from other states? Will they even be let in? Or maybe that game won’t be in Perth even if the GF is?

And are the U17 champs done for the year?
