I’m liking big Charlie Dixon. Saw he was in ripping nick coming into this season. Main man up forward for port, a team I consider up in the top end.
Thoughts gents?

Most people stay away from kpf's due to their inconsistency and they have to kick a lot of goals to average premo numbers. Its a big no for me, but if you think he can kick 60+ goals he might be a nice POD.

I’m very familiar with the issues surrounding KPF picks, however given the uncertainty surrounding forward premo selections this year we need to look at alternatives to the norm. Hawkins and Dixon have a 1% ownership and present valid selection based on last years efforts. Hawkins has Jezza as a bit of an uncertainty, but big Charlie has no real question over whether or not he backs up 2020. I think there’s potential for him to sit top 5-10 forward end of year. I was mostly fishing for some more niche concerns rather than the cliche KPF one.

Port play North and then Essendon and then it's a tough stretch, West Coast in Perth, Richmond, Carlton, St Kilda, Brisbane. Might have a couple big scores r1 and 2, then it should be tough for him against some strong defenses until Adelaide in round 8. Can see him going on a run of really low scores, a big score every now and then won't make up for it.

Last years scores against WC 165, blues 118, tigers 117, saints 88 (bad team loss) and lions 71 (bad team loss).
Honestly looking into his scores last year he only dropped below 70 when port had bad losses (29 against cats... ouch).
Maybe I’m overrating port it’s always hard to speculate this time of the year, but I think the big fella needs a little more love here..

I assume he kicked bags in the big scores?

He kicked 6 in the monster score against eagles but no more than 3 in the others! That’s what KPF can do though... kick bags.... he scored well when he got his hands on the footy which you’d hope for more of given he’s looking fit as F lately.

I don’t mind it. You obviously get the
KPF highs and lows so I can’t see any other concerns outside of the obvious KPF ones.

That was the logical conclusion that brought me to the fine people of big footy seeking something else to worry about. Imagine rozee and butters fishing him some of their quality disposals there’s no reason to think small bags of 6 could be a regular for him with the normal quarters back in business.

currently looking at starting 2 premos and all of daniher, brown, zeibel and impey if they come into rd1 fit.
They don't need to be keepers but can easily make a cheeky 100-150k that could lead onto a quick than average full premo forward line.
With the lack of proven mid playing forward options this year I think quick cash midpricers are the way to go until players show themselves.
Means my team might be using a couple more trades in the forward line but that's offset by the fact I will be running close to/full premo backline.

Didn't he miss round 1 with a groin injury?
Missed round 1 2020, I was referring to this preseason. Joined the 1-4 year players in early training and looking solid. I was stalking the port board on here looking for a good enough reason to pick Rozzee.... didn’t find it. But the big bearded fella looks mint.

Came off a broken leg last year, would love to see big Charlie put it all together and go full beast mode.

Dont think dixon will really score more than ben brown fit at least in the short term.
Would rather pick a guy that is a bit more consistent in his scoring etc or pick a mid pricer and take the gash grab early.

There’s at least 4 premo mid/fwd this season Martin Danger Zorko and Sidebottom
3 mid priced Bolton Phillips Caldwell out of the 2 above Ziebell and Impey are the two most likely scorers

Sidebottom is jumping out at me regularly. Currently in and out of my side. My biggest issue is that he sometimes gets a tag. He is well known for not being able to handle one. With trealor gone, he will play more mid. But that'll bring attention. His age is also questionable but to a lesser extent.

Tossing up between 2 Lions cheap forwards for finally bench spot the guy who is ripping up the field Ely Smith or probably more likely starter but low scorer Nakia Cockatoo

I’d just talked myself into starting Sidebum. Now you’ve sowed some seeds of doubt again.

Generally I don’t pick key forwards, but as far as Dixon goes, he’s currently in 0.7% of teams, 30 years of age, and is a tick under $500k. I won’t be picking him personally, but with those sort of numbers he’s definitely going to be POD this season.

Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan says Daniher, Cockatoo in ominous form ahead of season
Brisbane Lions star recruit Joe Daniher is yet to miss a training session or have his program modified according to coach Chris Fagan, as the former Bomber prepares for his first round one AFL game in three years.

“I think he was obviously on the mend towards the end of last year. He’s had a good break, no setbacks at all and has done every session. He seems to be enjoying himself and getting on with his teammates.”

Brisbane’s other high-profile recruit, former top 10 draft pick Nakia Cockatoo, is also tracking well after six years for just 34 games with Geelong.

“He too has done all the training so far,” Fagan said.

“We’ve modified him a little bit because he wasn’t able to do a lot of training before Christmas so he’s been on a gradual build up. Basically he’s doing all the skill sessions.

Sounds like Ziebell to defence is actually happening

------------------------------
Today

NORTH Melbourne veteran Jack Ziebell says the club’s experienced defenders are helping him adjust to a new role at half-back this year.

New Kangaroos coach David Noble floated the idea of a positional change to Ziebell before Christmas and the inside midfielder was open to a switch.

Ziebell played across halfback sparingly as a junior, then in a few games during his debut AFL season and again a couple of years ago.

The 29-year-old said he was still learning the ropes down back.

“I’ve got some really experienced defenders — Robbie Tarrant, Josh Walker, Aidan Corr, Luke McDonald also at half- back — around me … and they’ve been awesome for me,” Ziebell said.

“I was quite excited to get down there the first couple of weeks of pre-season training and after a week and a bit down there now, I’ve learnt so much.”

Ziebell featured in just eight games last year due to hamstring problems as the Roos finished the campaign secondbottom with a 3- 14 record.

Four months on, he is on track to complete a full preseason , which is symbolic of the club’s injury list.
