Port Adelaide star to become full-time midfielder in 2022

Zak Butters has burst onto the scene in his first three years in the AFL, making an All-Australian squad playing as a high half-forward pushing into the midfield.

Going into his fourth season, the 21-year-old is keen to now make the transition into a more permanent midfield role, alongside the likes of Ollie Wines, Travis Boak and Willem Drew.

Butters averaged 19 disposals per game in 2021, though a foot injury left him only able to play 12 games.

“That’s my goal this off-season, I’m going to be a full-time midfielder this year in the off-season,” Butters told SEN SA Drive.

“That’s something I’m really looking forward to and growing in that space and becoming a better midfielder and hopefully applying my strengths to the team in there which is my speed and being clean under pressure.

Is jogging around with a retired AFL player what you'd want to see?
Looks soft in terms of physique. Think the lad needs it put on him that its now or never. Do you want to live out your child hood dream or go work a 9-5. He has the talent.

Anyone know who the kid in the middle is?

It's not Dante - he's wearing black boots.
He's in a bunch of other photos wearing 31, but it's not Skinner.
I don't think it's Lord. I'm stumped.
It's not Lord or Dante, they are both way taller than Houston.

Fingers crossed...

Love that Sinn is already being added in this discussion. I've said it a few times, but I reckon we moved up to pick 12 to grab a guy with midfield qualities - I think that's our plan for him.

Wines, Boak, Drew, Karlos, Duurs, Butters, Rozee, Pep, Sinn, maybe Gray, Farrell & Bergman... that midfield group is starting to look pretty decent and only one genuine starter over 27.

Big ass warrior with a summer of running ahead before the season starts he'll be fine.

See how he looks in Feb, needs to take the step up from big country lad to adonis.

Fantasia still not pictured training, CD had an interview talking about injuries and no mention of him there either.

They are rebuilding him in the Cerberus labs as we speak. The Illusive Man is keeping it under wraps. 4 billion credits spent on it so far.
