Grab a cuppa, some biscuits and just sit back in the corner and enjoy the show.

I cant think of a more relaxing way to spend a Sunday arvo, whats best is that the Port supporters are likely stuck at home given the miserable weather today.
Imagine all the "next day after the win BBQs and replay watching" parties that have been cancelled. Heartwarming really.

Still think there's a place for the motivational speaking Coach .....all very well to put it back on the players to prepare ....and I understand the concept of over-hyping players ...but we're talking players mostly under 25

Port started poorly, some players obviously thought the match was a fait accompli ......obviously Hinkley gave them a rocket or motivational speech at HT , because the kicked the first 3 goals
So why didn't they get that speech pre-match ?

Sometimes the old fashioned ways still work

This choking narrative rubs me the wrong way. Doesn't really take into account what both sides have achieved this year.

It only looks like a choke because of how mercilessly ports tyres were pumped after the QF.

They were beaten at home soundly by pretty much all decent teams this year.

My favourite Port board post was one a couple of years back suggesting that they use the China money to pay out Ken's contract
Covid must have been a relief honestly. How else were they going to sell that exit?

I can't wait to see how they bin off NTUA after they stop making finals. They'll cross their fingers for another plague

NTUA is going to look a lot sillier than it does now when they have their turn at the bottom.

Crow till I die

Another Crows soldier down, that is to be respected and admired for his bravery and commitment to a better South Australia! :thumbsu:

We fly as One.

He was banned because of the politics thread I believe.

Indeed. A face-saving exit strategy that fell right in their lap

We need to get away from calling it a Desperate Cash Grab. That's where Chasing Greatness comes in. We'll tell them they've "won" the chance to help build Port Adelaide's future. And the "prize" is a money transfer they can make, directly into our bank account.

Tax deductible?

Yeah but most of them don't pay tax.

What do they get for their errr... contribution?

There's the Alberton Oval redevelopment.

What are we even building at Alberton anyway?

We're doing it up for our AFLW team.

But we don't have an AFLW team?

Well we might get one. One day... if we can clear this debt and get a whole heap more funding. And players from somewhere.

If we can't even afford to field a men's team though is a women's team actually a realistic possibility?

Probably not. But if it falls over, it falls over. And we'll have all new changerooms for our men's team. Win-win.

New changerooms are one thing but what tangible benefit can fans see on field that they can point to and say I contributed to that?

What do they want to see?

Most Port fans are willing to dig deep for the club...

That's good

...but only to pay out Ken's contract.

That doesn't really help us... would just be an added debt on top of the $13m.

Can't we use some of the China Money to pay Ken out?

There is no China money. Turned out to be a very expensive exercise. I mean, just tent rental alone... Having to cancel the trip due to Covid actually saved us a bundle. Gave us a chance to withdraw blamelessly and save face.

Weren't sponsorship dollars from giant Chinese conglomerates going to roll in? Turn us into a truly international powerhouse like Manchester United?

It's not that easy. Did you know they don't even play AFL in China? How were we supposed to know that?

No we weren't. That's revising history. Richmond weren't even seen as a legitimate flag threat until during the finals series. It's only now that we have the context of what they have done has Richmond's performance that year elevated to being the "best" team.

We were 7-3 against the top sides. They were 4-4.

We had a percentage 18% higher than they did and were in the top 2 all season. Richmond were in and out of the top 4 and didn't sew up their spot until the final round.

Our late season form wasn't far poorer. We lost a close one to Sydney and lost away to West Coast who both made finals. In the West Coast game because we had top spot sewn up we chose to rest Walker and Talia who had minor niggles. Prior to that we hadn't lost in 7 weeks (we did draw with Collingwood)

Richmond only played 2 finalists in their last 6 games and lost to one of them.

Commentators were literally calling us the best team all year when we made the grand final. That's the level we were at.

Yes, we totally sh*t the bed after that and Richmond went on to prove themselves as one of the great teams. But that year we were on fire.

We won 15 games, the same as Richmond. Our % was less than the previous year and 1 win less. There were then about 4 other teams one win behind us. We weren't on fire, commentators are stupid if they believed that. We feasted on shift teams but were found wanting when our mids weren't dominant. Onky a fool sees 2017 as a dominant season. 15 wins. 15.

Hence we didn't enter the Grand Final as overwhelming favourite, I re-call the odds was around $1.85 and $2.10.
