Ahhh so torn here lads. Want to just set and forget rucks so looking at getting Gawn in for Witts but need to find 112K with a second trade to get him in. Do I risk it and downgrade Clark to Robertson and have 4 rookies playing midfield or play Flynn and use my 2 trades to get a premo in somewhere. Really want Clark out of my side ASAP. Cheers.
I also have Clark in the mids + 3 rookies so we are already both fielding 4 rookies in the midfield. I think you have the luxury of trading Clark, so just do it. Flynn R2 is fine, lots are doing this.

I got a defender dilemma. Can afford Cumming, but could also do a Cox/Chapman plus gain 194k.

If Cumming is 85
Cox is 65-70 +194k is it worth it?

I probably have more faith in Cox over Chapman. But is 200k worth the difference in scoring between Cumming and Cox? (boy oh boy innuendo)
I think Cox and Chapman might be closer to a 60 average. Cumming has a great role and I can't see him ever going full spud and dropping a sub 50 score. The rookies can drop a 40 on you randomly which can really hurt. Cox a real chance to do that tonight. I think it's worth spending up for Cumming, safer scoring with higher ceiling and easier to upgrade to a def premo when the time comes

As much as I'd like Hind and/or Ridley I'll just be skipping tonight and wait for more information.
An hour before bounce down on Friday we should know teams from all but 6 teams.

And some key answers in:
- Highmore, Scott, Robertson, Burgess ruck? I've also got Drew who may get dropped at some point so it'd be nice to know he's 100% in.

Best case scenario for Bergman might be that he's dropped entirely. Might be a good sign they at least want to get some run back into him for a return the following week?
If he's forever the sub he'll never break into the 22.

If Bergman is sub he might actually be more of a trade priority than if he was dropped.

Marshall to come back in for the Saints, but it doesn't look good for Highmore..

"Jake Carlisle and Shaun McKernan are both in the mix as Marshall's back-up, however mature-age rookie Paul Hunter appears unlikely to be selected after completing extra running post-training in lieu of no VFL practice match this weekend.

Hunter was joined in a group that included fringe Saints Tom Highmore and Dean Kent."

Running the gauntlet.

Rowe > Waterman
Scholl > Riddley

Aanddddd pray one of Kosi or Highmore named 🙃

I don't mean to put doubt in your mind... but I wouldn't be surprised at all if the left outscores or at the very least matches the right this week.

Crows versus North this week so Rowe should kick a few. Scholl should surely see plenty of it.

If Swans continue their form Ridley is capped at 95 this week. Waterman may go unsighted and score sub 50.

..and from my previous post, Highmore doesn't look likely, so everything hinges on Kosi being named in the last game of the round... it's a rather tight gauntlet to run.

Port play on Friday, I'm assuming if Berg is named the sub and not subbed on then he may play Sanfl the next day?

After having Waterman in my side (bench) all week I've decided against it for the simple reason being I want 2 trades after tonight and don't want that one locked away if carnage hits

I feel Waterman's JS could be pretty good since he's a mature ager, big body and proven goal kicker

That being said I don't know how well he'll go against Sydney tonight

I do find this all so interesting, as to be fair, these are the exact same people that advised against having Flynn as your R2 to start the season. Also the same peeps who said not to pick up Tex because 'key forwards are too sporadic.'

Reminds me of those super ads - 'past performance may not be a good indicator of future performance.'

While it is 100% correct a bad idea to be trading in midpricer after midpricer, it's also just as bad - if not worse - an idea to trade in sketchy rooks with questionable JS - especially if you're playing them on field. This is why I'm taking my time with trades this week, as there is an element of 'not wasting trades' that comes into it by trying not to pick the wrong rook that just sits on my pine, makes me no money, and is another wasted trade whenever I want to get a better rook in.

While there are certain things we can rely on, I'm not sure that taking prior year's winners as gospel this year, is the way to go. Selby, the Traders and all and sundry warned against having a rookie in Flynn on your ground - now pretty everyone in the Top 100, if not the top 1000, is doing it.

I gotta say, with the lack of JS for rooks due to the absolute plethora of injuries to Best 22 players during pre-season, returning every week and then kicking them out, it comes back to the age old question in fantasy - what's the value of a trade?

Do you prioritize JS in your rook and pay more, ala Nik Cox in defence...or do you pay less and hope they score better on your ground for a bit, and then can eventually be moved to your bench making slow burning cash increases. Do you use midpricers to 'bridge' the gap, knowing they have solid JS, or do you bite the bullet and trade out those midpricers to a gun/rook and hope that rook doesn't get dropped?

It's tough, and it's an answer I don't have yet, however as a guide, these are the rooks that have already been dropped or injured/will be dropped moving forward/have solid js:

Dropped/injured:

Sharp
Hunter
Highmore
Bergman (should hopefully return this week)
Idun (recalled due to injury)
Evans
Bruhn
Bytel
X. O'Neill (will be recalled this week)

Shaky:

Scott
Kozi
McNeill
Meek
Waterman
Robertson
Lazarro
Berry
Holmes
Brockman
Fullarton
Chapman
Shipley
Parks
T. Berry
W. Phillips
O'Halloran
Martyn

Solid:

Flynn
Jones
Cox
Rowe
Gulden
Warner
Jordon
Powell
Burgess
S. Taylor
Butts
L. McDonald
B. Campbell
L. Young

*****************************

Would you rather pick a rook from that 'shaky' list, or would you rather pick an already inflated rook that you don't have from the 'solid' list, who might only be 100K less now than that midpricer with solid JS and might score terribly too? Or, do you spend that extra 100K, knowing that'll be a forced trade in the future too, but at least making some cash and probably scoring higher in the meantime?

I honestly don't think it's as clear cut as it was in previous seasons - given all the different machinations surrounding the rules, the dearth of rooks with solid JS, and the insane injury list during pre-season that makes it hard to pencil in any rookies, as there's just so many good players coming back.

As with everything fantasy, time will tell, haha :)
Been busy today mate haven’t found the time to respond. Agree with almost everything you brought up! Just a few things

It’s dumb to take anything written there as gospel even from a past winner. The reason I posted it was because I agreed with many of the sentiments. It’s what I stuck to when finishing top 100, gone away from it last 2 seasons and finished 1500. How much of that came down to luck is anyone’s guess, but it’s my opinion that trading around keepers & rooks is far superior to playing the BE stockmarket game. Now more than ever in a season where there’s hardly any mid price options that actually look like turning into keepers.

Rooks are always a risk and must be picked meticulously. However they are the life blood to completing your team. Will always be the Cavarra types that end in flames but it’s just about limiting those. After all, having a completed/near complete team by end of byes is the end goal. IMO that way is far, far more efficient in achieving that as opposed to playing the mid price stockmarket game.

JDG and Young out to:

A. Parish and Jiath
B. Tex and Cumming
C. Burgess and Zorko
D. Robertson and Ridley
C or D

I am a fan of the Tex move but with Tex & Cumming you’re locking yourself into 2 lots of future trades. With C or D you get a keeper and only 1 lot.

I find myself in a bit of an interesting spot, I want to bring in the big Tex Walker this week.

However Jye Caldwell, who’s still in my team and needs to go before tonight’s game doesn’t provide me with enough money to do just a straight swap.

I also have Hayden Young who’s a forced trade and will realistically have to go no matter what but I just don’t like the idea of using both of my trades so early on.

Sounds like a perfect reason to dodge the Tex bullet

Jye and Young are both forced trades, just trade away and manage the rest with your bench, nothing else you can do.
