I'll do you one better. Have him as the medi sub for a season so he plays neither afl or vfl.yes always best to develop for AFL competition by playing VFL. Thats why you never give a young player games in the AFL until they are at least 23 and have played 5 seasons on VFL. Proven strategy
People today expect kids to come in after getting drafted and just go from strength to strength - you rarely get a Sam Walsh , you only have to look back at a champion like Michael Tuck , he would of played 70 odd games in the 2s before finding a spot - was tried as a full forward in his first year , then on a wing before finding his role in the midfield.Oops those weren't his, those were Lenny's first season.

Rising career (1974 - 1985)
In the following years Tuck was tried as a winger and defender before in 1974 finding his true niche as a ruck-rover and firmly establishing himself in the Hawthorn senior side. With Don Scott and Leigh Matthews, Tuck came to form a following combination feared by every other VFL club and a crucial role in Hawthorn's 1976 and 1978 premierships. Tuck was a team leader as Hawthorn appeared in seven successive grand finals between 1983 and 1989. In the last four years of his career Tuck was moved from the ball to the less demanding role of a running half-back flanker, but he still averaged over 17 possessions per game in the final years of his career
Criticizing a kids form like Coffield is laughable knowing the guy is far from a finished product (21yr old)
We have been through a shocking era after Ross left with the cupboards bare and then drafting some of the most average kids in the draft periods.
Now we have quality talent now and development takes time and a lot of the kids drafted have to bulk up and then build the endurance to go with it .
King for instance playing his 2nd season and the criticism the kid has copped on here is a joke and the kid has be pushed to be our main focal point in the forward line as a kid who still has a body like a string bean - the kid is ● Ranked 5th in Total Contested Marks and his only played 35 games of football - imagine in 2yrs time people will be flocking to games just to watch Max play , having a guy taking 8 contested marks inside 50 is a dream come true for the club.
Petracca and Parish looked like average players until they hit 24years of age , even people were writing Parish off last year and he could of been snapped up in a trade.
We now have a squad with some very good young talent and it is the best our squad has been for years we just have to give them time.
They will have their ups and downs for sure but in the end the talent will shine through.
My view
King - developing into a once in a generation player
Clark - we all know he has the talent to be anything , but is still building his endurance before becoming the midfielder we want and next year at 23yrs of age he should be hitting his straps.
Coffield - another extremely talented kid with silky skills and can mark (only 21yrs old), a good preseason and belief will see him cement his place in the side , whether that is on the backline or somewhere else.
Battle - Only needs to get his confidence back and be played in one position , being thrown around the field to fill holes dented his development this year.
Bytel - From a player who had a crippling back injury to where he is no is amazing , you only have to look when he got drafted to a picture of him now at 21 - another player who has been given a raw deal having to attempt to get into the side when hardly no 2s games are played. He has the ability to be anything and once he gets game time will show how good he is - will be a very good player.
Byrne - Has been a surprise packet has already been more than handy in games and will only get better.
Connolly - I don't know where this guy come from but he is showing dare and poise well beyond his age and he has the foot skills and pace to be a very damaging player.
Heath - Unknown , just hope he can become a ruck forward we so badly need / looking at what he has showed on the track he could well be.
Higgins - at 22yrs of age he has shown he has developed into a very good player , any guy who plays half forward and can pick up 25 touches is impressive and we have found one here.
These guys are not players like Goddard , Sipross , White , Parker , Templeton , Curran , Wright , Acres , Murdoch , Saunders - We now have a squad talented and have massive scope.
Add on all the other guys at 25yrs of age and you can see we have a few years left to win a flag.
Steele , Howard , Sinclair , Wilkie , Marshall , Highmore , Gresham , Billings , Butler.
We still are in need of a good key position player so hopefully we can fix that up and we are ready to have a crack at a flag

You had me at lennyOops those weren't his, those were Lenny's first season.
I can’t remember but do clubs tend to do all the “thanks for your service” “sorry to see you go” stuff if they’re planning on re rookieing a player?Yeah Clav was only two points off winning it. I hope he gets picked up somewhere, or what are the odds of a re-rookie?
Clav was runner up and the highest ranked St Kilda listed player (rip)
If we were going to re-rookie him, we would have said that at the time of delisting.Yeah Clav was only two points off winning it. I hope he gets picked up somewhere, or what are the odds of a re-rookie?
There's no way we'll be rookieing him.I can’t remember but do clubs tend to do all the “thanks for your service” “sorry to see you go” stuff if they’re planning on re rookieing a player?
