I’m glad it looks like Lyons will be moved into the second rotation, for me he was being asked to do too much last year and whilst his numbers were good, he shouldn’t be asked to compete against the true elite mids of the comp IMO.

It’s always been that way, you’re only just finding out now.
Not true; that's not been the case at every closed session game over the years.

I guess young people are just that bit more special these days that surely we couldn't deny them the right that Mum and Dad can't attend their workplace to see them work.

So sad that parents and relatives think that their child playing AFL is so special and the way some of them act, one would think they are too.

Funnily enough I tend to find the kids these days don't give a shit, but the mums and dads are so entitled and helicoptery that they need to oversee any step taken and chuck a tantrum if they don't get their way.

Tell that to Dayne Beams and Jarrod Berry

Agree on the helicopter parent phenomenon, it seems to be more rampant these days. IMO the 24/7 news cycle has a lot to do with it, they like to peddle doom and gloom and perpetuate the myth that there is danger around every corner.

During my youth in the 60s/70s my brother, I and kids in the neighbourhood were of the generation where the parents told the kids to get out of the house and come back home for lunch... then go again and be home by sunset. We used to roam around the streets and bushland for hours on end and my parents wouldn't be concerned in the least.

The abridged version:

I'm confused, having watched the replay, were crowds permitted to the game because given the vocal person in attendance and clapping etc., it is pretty unlikely that they'd have been a Suns official?

The vocal person in attendance was Tony Cochrane, the Suns chairman.

Dylan12, mate sometimes you pick some weird things to get upset about.

You’re still in Melbourne right, and wouldn’t have been up here to attend?

It was a closed session, primarily due to costs associated with opening the stadium to the public when no fees would have been charged for entry.

As for players family attending, the clubs themselves would have invited players families to attend.

I’ll give GC some props, they’re pretty good at helping their draftees families relocate to the GC, if they so choose. Added benefit for them are some younger siblings now in their academy.

The clubs can have people spectate at their own discretion for any closed session. Weird thing to dig in about.

Imagine how pathetic at life you must be as a parent that you would hitch yourselves to your child's career (which lets face it could be over after a couple of years or I don't know the kid gets delisted and has to move states) and re-locate states so you can continue to hold their hand.

Beggars belief how many babies run around in the AFL.

Seriously.

You know the Berry’s dad has strongly considered moving to Brisbane, because all three of his boys are up here now.

Parents move all the time for their kids.

There are literally hundreds of parents and families who mov up to Brisbane to put their kids in to schools up here because they offer special programs and opportunities that aren’t available in schools in Tasmania, Victoria or NSW for their kids.

Similarly to parents who move to the States for their kids to go highly credentialed artistic or sports based schools and academies.

Some families are tight knit. It’s little different to families moving because one parent got a job elsewhere.

I know a couple of the GC players parents have jobs and careers up here now, and fully settled on the GC.

Im slightly amazed (and scared about how much he has spent on flights) at the amount of travel he has done getting up to Brisbane for every game. Long way from Horsham

My brother plays basketball professionally and my parents, myself and the rest of the family try to get to every game that we can exactly because his career could be over in a very short time. Were all proud of him doing well enough that he gets paid to do what he loves and enjoy getting to watch him play. Would have thought thats the norm for the family members of every professional athlete.

I swear Dylan, sometimes (most of the time) you get outraged about the most baffling things

I know quite a few surgeons that are way more successful than most professional athletes, but I've never heard of their parents ever attending surgery to watch them in action.

I just find it odd why sports people are treated so differently and held to this higher standard by most families given a lot are just another pleb out there a couple of years later.

Because people enjoy watching sports and all the more when they can watch someone they love playing and playing well....

So any chance of changes to the list for Monday? I'd love to see dev get a run just to see where he is in terms of development and compare how he's running to Ely, who i thought looked very good for someone who has yet to debut

It feels like you are unearthing some childhood trauma here, unpacking some repressed feelings at missed chances or being overshadowed.

Do you want someone to talk about this with? I can give you some links/numbers.

The term "helicopter parents " is outdated. Its now "snowplow parents".They do not just hover they seek to remove the obstacles in the way of their little darlings.
My wife used to teach at a uni and was amazed at the number of parents accompanying their children to various interviews.Self reliance is a dead art.

I don't think this was your intent but I now have an image of parents demanding to be let in to watch their child perform surgery and it's delightful. :D

Yep the good ol' days.
Mind you the streets are far more busier than the seventies , bit different back then when we all had pushies.
Seems like now every house has 4 or five cars .

Anyway ,back on track .
I get what Dylan is saying although we all love sport and watching sport if you are invested is almost as good as playing, sort of.
So I think when your kids play , I believe there is no shame in supporting them.

However!
I do believe in giving your kids their own space as well, without having being watched all the time.

On a random , I think my wheel stand record on my 10 speed was 18 pedals just before I stacked it.
