It’s a “national” competition.

I don’t begrudge players leaving for more money, better job offers, more playing time or opportunities.

We can’t be bringing players like Neale, Daniher, Dunkley, etc in, and whinge if we lose players. (Yes I’m aware one is the women’s team and one is the men’s team).

What will suck is the level of compensation we receive, and what can we realistically achieve with such compensation.

Ideally we have the first pick in the QLD zone, and we somehow manage to convince a top tier interstate draftee to nominate QLD.

We’ve lost 4 women to Victoria and have delisted a further 3.

That’s a lot of list spots to fill when there is only an overage draft being held before the next season begins.

The one refreshing thing is no one who has pissed off on the lions has been a huge success at a new club

With the exception of Melbourne, it is evening the competition.

As was mentioned on the AFLW board, when only two players can be paid marquee money, how could Brisbane realistically keep hold of two league best and fairest players, and the top scorer.

Realistically, a lot of our women have likely been underpaid for quite a few seasons.

We don’t know what the likes of Bodey and Wardlaw were on, and what they’ve been offered to move, but it’s a fair guess they are easily doubling their income.


Let’s wait and see how the trade period shakes out.

We’ve been rumoured to be in to one of Gold Coasts better midfielders. There might be others we haven’t heard of yet.

ETA: I did know that we were possibly losing Bates & Bodey but my question "Have you heard something?" was in relation to the implication that Hodder & Anderson may be on the move.

Joke of a competition. I really feel for the coaches. You spend so much time and effort to develop very good players and then can’t keep them. Bates and Jesse were our two most important players last year IMO.

Its for this reason that our family does not support the AFLW in anyway shape or form. There is no loyalty and only scant regard for the club, particulalry from local girls or girls teh club picked from obscurity, from most of the female players so its just pointless getting behind such a competition even tho we appreciate the work of ppl such as Starcevic.

My son had been an aflw supporter from the start. Dragged me to quite a few games.

He's done. Says he won't go to games because it's the only protest he can make against the way the league is being run.

Too many clubs jumping in and parasite-ing (he tells me that's a real word) off the hard work of the start up clubs.

Doesn't blame the girls leaving, just doesn't feel connected.

I think wadlaw was the straw that broke his back.

If our compensation is anything like the last two raids we'll probably get an end of the last round draft pick, but can only use it for a rookie promo or something stupid. Imagine losing one of the best midfields in the league and getting chicken feed in return...
