That's not really how it works, though. Any of those picks could be anywhere between A-graders or busts.

I'm making these numbers up as an example, but we'd be more likely to get at least one A-grader by taking 2 players with 30% chance of becoming one than 1 player with a 40% chance.
exactly, pick 64 person could be better than pick 1. Because of salary cap you can only have so many A grade players. Splitting picks in top 30 players can make sense if have done your homework and deep pool to choose from.

Part of the success 05-15 came from doing something contra to the rest. Less competition so long as you plan is sound

Picking 2 KPP in 04 draft when tigers and dogs went midfielders

Picking up Hale lake McEvoy when heavily rebuilding clubs were divesting their ‘list cloggers’

Keeping pick 6 gives us more like an 80% chance of an A-grader considering who'll be available so why risk that for two picks outside the top ten?
If you think we have an 80% chance of getting an A grader with Pick 6, then I have bad news for you. Probably an 80% chance of still being on an AFL list after 10 years, let alone being an A grader.

Look at Catlton.

Weitering, Mckay, Curnow

****ing nailed it. (finally)

Wasn’t there a rumour a few weeks ago that hawks were considering jefferson with pick 6? So maybe he’s higher in our order that the media rankings. The dees trade makes a lot more sense in that context (as almost every mock draft has jefferson making it to the dees - eagles prob the risk).

We don’t mind picking skinnier kids. Jefferson has as much upside / a grade potential as anyone outside the top handful. Needs time to put on size but that’s fine.

There’s been hundreds of posts on how we need to take a few calculated risks.

Equalisation at its best if the premier gets gifted pick 7 from an incompetent expansion club and then drafts a bloke who was talked about as a top 3 pick until the last few weeks
Move on from Geelong. They will get a good young kid. Yeah it's bullshit but it's one player.

They're not some invincible force, they've won 1 flag, they are set to lose a dozen of their best players in the next 2 years and their best player in the 23-28 age bracket is Atkins.

The cats will be fine, as long as GC keeps trading with them
