What makes setting up goals directly peripheral in comparison to taking contested marks?

Hell Max King is a better contested mark at the moment than Hawkins - it’s not going to get him in the side because it never leads to a) other people kicking goals or b) King kicking goals. What
What a dumb comment. It's because Lynch's marks actually does lead to goals , hence why more goals .

Lynch should make it, Hawkins has inflated stats against poor sides, i'd do that, tho Hawkins also gives of ball, so who knows.

But Curnow and Cameron will make it.

It would be interesting to get a breakdown of Hawkins's goal assists (given the argument is he will get an AA off the back of his goal assist numbers) by team.

BF never does cease to surprise. We're now being told goal assists will get you an AA selection over goals and marks...for a Key Forward. Classic BF.

His peak was better than any level Selwood reached and he’s physically capable things that Selwood isn’t. If he maintained the standard of his final season or two at Adelaide and his first 3 at Geelong for longer he would be among the very best players of the century.

Overall irrespective of flags or whatever I think Selwood has if nothing else been a more valuable player to his teams. It’s hard to rank them.

No doubt his peak (in H&A) is better. I would still take Selwood over Dangerfield every day of the week to play with.

Selwood’s peak in finals beats Dangerfield's best imo.

Haha Lynch kicked 41 of his 60 goals against non top 8 teams. Finished the year off with 17 goals v non finalists too!

So should we remove Lynchs stat padding 8 goals v West Coast away since they were at their poorest when he played them too?

Please report to the BURN WARD

lol, small minds are amused by small things.

Jack played further up the ground that year in 2015.

I am more talking about 2012, when Jack Riewoldt kicked 65 goals and won the Coleman medal, but was not selected in the AA team.

This year Curnow kicked 64 goals, 1 less than Jack in 2012 and his team like Jack in 2012, has not made finals.

Compare that with Lynch who kicked 60 goals, at an average of 3.3 per game, compared to Curnow in 2022 of 2.9 per game.

Lynch's team is playing finals, and Lynch is the key player in the team, that has scored more than any other team in the league.

Lynch has also taken more contested marks than any other player has taken in the last decade

He is also the only KPF in the league that is in the top 10 of pressure acts that result in goals.

If its goals that matter, Curnow is in, but so is Lynch, but Hawkins is out.

If its playing in a good team that matters, then Lynch and Hawkins are in, but Curnow is out

Either way, Lynch has to be in the AA team for 2022.

Most of the key forwards kicked their goals against minnows. Its why they are minnows.

Lynch never kicked 8 goals against West Coast lol

Interesting that you mentioned kicking goals against minnows.

The three worst teams in the league West coast, Nth, GWS

West Coast, Richmond played against them twice and he played once

GWS, Lynch was injured in that game and did not play

Nth, Lynch was injured and did not play that game either.

The mental gymnastics that need to happen for Lynch not to get his AA jumper in 2022, is funny to watch

He is in.

how did cameron and hawkins go against the good teams

Someone tell me why you don't have Connor Rozee in your team.

Versus others in most AAs,

Tyson Stengle:

Isaac Heeney:

Shai Bolton:

Charlie Cameron:

Goals and goal assists combined final:

1. Tom Hawkins 85 (59/26)
2. Charlie Curnow 76 (64/12)/Jeremy Cameron (59/17)
4. Tom Lynch 66 (60/6)/Peter Wright (53/13)/Bayley Fritsch (50/16)/Charlie Cameron (47/19)
8. Aaron Naughton 65 (51/14)
9. Lance Franklin 63 (50/13)
10. Max King 60 (52/8)/Taylor Walker (47/13)

Could make a case for Curnow missing, the Coleman medal was close anyway there was 4 blokes who all had their chance. Not saying I'd do it but if they did pick Lynch over him I wouldn't be completely shocked. Still have Lynch a borderline squad, but if he gets in he's a live chance. Gut says it will be the 3 obvious ones though

Really just Heeney and Mills a chance and I still won't be shocked with zero Swans in the team. Maybe Heeney for HF or bench has a mid/forward type. However I've always been supportive of the bench simply being the next best 4 players.

If the next best 4 players includes a KPF then I don't see an issue with the Curnow, Cameron, Hawkins and Lynch in the team.

Yeah if Lynch was going to push anyone out it would be Curnow imo, play a similar style but Lynch more dangerous with his contested marking and goal ave

But at the end of the day Curnow’s ability to get on the park every week shouldn’t be held against him and fairly won the Colman and due to that I think he deserves his position in the side

Lynch probably misses out but that’s footy
