One game in, but cripps and tracc looking ominous
Langdon will get stiffed of a deserved wing position.

McCluggage will be the stiff one. Had a few more goals and 25 more assists than Langdon last year.

Could see both McLuggage and Langdon if they actually go two wingers (they won’t).

Dees will be Trac, Oliver, Gawn to back up as captain, May. Ben Brown to give it a shake depending on staying on the park and where he finishes in the Coleman. Lever could back up depending on the plantar fascia. Salem will miss too many, Langdon in to the squad.

Please not another year where Clugga gets shafted.

Hopefully he has a big year and they cannot overlook him.

McCluggage might want to start to be accurate in front of goal. Has everything aside from this.

Brisbane in a nutshell really, but you're right.

I predict 0 AA selections from my team for this season. Strange to think with 6 players with multiple AA selections in the squad.

Recent (last 3 seasons) selections:

Naitanui (2020, 2021) most likely candidate if he can maintain his great form but after 2016 and 2018 I am always nervous for him
Ryan (2020) possible if he can get a good run with injury. Tough position competing with Bont, Petracca who aren't forwards
Sheppard (2020) retired
Kelly (2019) missing to start the year, not the same player since he left Geelong
Yeo (2019) injured, won't play enough games
Darling (2019) injured, missed pre-season because he's an anti-vaxxer
McGovern (2019) two injury affected seasons after 4 AAs in a row. No longer starts the season pencilled in.
Hurn (2019) 35 years old and probably won't play all games

Shuey is also injured, so unless Rotham or Witherden get 25 touches and 10 marks a game in an easy half back role I don't see any other candidates coming through.

I hope I'm wrong.

^^^ Geez, what are the odds on Adam Simpson being the first coach to get the sack this year?

I think he'll be right. Unless we start serving up noncompetitive swill again. He's got an opportunity to blood some new players without an expectation of winning 15+ games. If we lose to GC by 15 goals then ignore everything I just said. #simmoout

Tyson Stengle would have to be a shout if he keeps up what he's shown so far

Lol he will win the Coleman and Brownlow if he keeps having 20 & 4 a game

Luke McDonald our best chance so far going by his games against Sydney and Hawthorn. Hopefully he can keep this up

Unlikely that he has a career best AA year then

Maybe 2023 though

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of coming back from an ACL and the unlikelihood of Sicily being AA this year, it may sound funny but it doesn't have to take a career best year, despite him never previously being All Australian.

In 2017, his form when moved to be a backman was AA worthy but he started the season as an OK (but not AA) forward so couldn't really be picked there.
In 2018, he was in AA form and was getting selected in nearly every side in these threads until he broke his wrist and missed the last 6 games of the season.
In 2019, he was in AA form and again selected in more sides the not. He was picked for the squad but was beaten for a place in the side by Tom Stewart. I actually think Sicily had the better year in a tougher role but Stewart was selected because (a) Geelong had a miserly defence whilst Hawthorn's was anything but (team performance has been a big factor in recent years) and (b) Stewart was the incumbent in the side.
In 2020, Sicily was again in AA calculations early in the year before his knee injury obviously ended any chances he had.

In short, he could come back at the level he was and still be AA given he has been 50/50 for the side in previous years, with the added romantacism of doing so returning from an ACL. I still think it's more unlikely than likely with: (a) him returning from an ACL where output is anticipated to be lower, (b) his team struggling even more than previous, (c) he plays an even more accountable role on the oppo's best forward now and (d) the emergence of other interceptors around him like Jiath, Scrimshaw, etc.

been a while since some campaigner had a sh*t year and made aa like selwood did once or twice

i reckon gawn is due a free aa. even if he’s dead average he’ll get a nod imo.

Someone will quote Champion Data, and Gawns claim for AA will be stymied.

Let’s see, maybe Gawn & S Darcy for the ruck spots ?.
