Also on Jordan Croft, if the club thinks there is a chance he develops into a reasonably high pick it’s even more reason to try and trade our 2x F1s into the top 10 this year. We’ll find the points next year anyway

It's pretty unlikely in my opinion. He wasn't selected in the U17's futures game and I don't think he's a good enough mark to be a top pick.

Also on Weddle, I don’t think he’d have any dramas playing on a small either like a Charlie Cameron or a Papley etc - just like how Grimes is one of the best match ups for Charlie in the league which you wouldn’t expect.

That’s something we need and adds great flexibility to a defence. I don’t think you necessarily need a lock down small defender to have a good defence, but a tall who can play small or tall and do an equally good defensive job - worth their weight in gold.

How do we get him?

Weddle ran a 2.94 over 20m and has very good endurance also.

A big positive about Weddle is that he can play on talls and smalls, something that generally hurts 192-193cm defenders is when they're essentially just an undersized key defender and can't go with a smaller player.

Small forward yes. Off the ball pressure is his strength and gets involved in a lot of scoring assists, whilst kicking some himself. Finishing / goal accuracy could do with some work. But his defensive side would compliment Weightman and our forward line well. Has the pace as well.

At least this years combine it’s not ridiculously hot like I’ve seen in the past where some combines should be done inside yet they’re not

Strong chance he will go before 21 so hopefully Lions pony up a 1st before that to give us a shot at picking him up. Given our KPD stocks would consider him at 11 others not as keen . Versatile Defender is worth a bit too us interesting to see which direction our list management team will go!

Wouldn't be against Van Es with a later pick. Take him on as a developer reckon he could be a solid citizen but will take some time

It's a shame that there's some pretty interesting players in that 15-30 range. It's a shame that our first pick is too early and Weddle will most likely be gone before our second pick.

If Busslinger is our target, I reckon he is a big chance to still be there at 11.

Eagles a threat at 8 as part of the North/ Port trade, but it sounds like they are eyeing off one for the WA mids.

St Kilda some threat at 9, but they have quite a few needs.

Can’t see anyone else needing a KPD in the top 10.

I don’t think Weddle would make it to 21 if we get that off the Lions. With so many picks in the teens, they can pick best available and for needs.

He's obviously not as good as Weddle or Busslinger but jeez you wouldn't blame anyone for jumping early on Van Es after his combine results. Back yourself in to develop his skills and you'd have a stud.

I’m still really high on Lewis Hayes, he’s super raw and won’t impact straight away. But I think he’ll develop into the perfect defender for the athletic 200cm forwards and also has that intercepting ability. Has a bit of Darcy Moore in him.

I thought he’d go earlier than expected due to the very little defensive prospects in this draft but those results make that even more of a possibility.

When you are watching game footage, Hayes looks faster than Van Es. It’s strange to see them test the opposite way around.

Van Es is a good late second round option.
