Dimma. Hartigan Frost
C J. Sicily Scrimshaw

Bramble Titch Ward

Gunners Kosi . Moore
Bruest. ML . Chad

Reeves Worpel Jom

BB Impey DGB Shiels

Is my guess for round 1 - Day comes back later when fit. BB will play because we made him captain although I don’t think he should be a lock best 22 later in the year.

MacDonald I feel plays round 1 with his great pre season but I dunno who goes out unless Shiels does, just not sure it happens.
Bramble is on my pre season watch list

How do you see the Reeves/Lynch thing panning out? For me, Reeves is the better ruck but Lynch looks better around the ground. Would they rotate? Reeves for a few weeks, then Lynch for a few?
Think you have it right, not sure they would rotate. Although Reeves is a big body and still maturing so wouldn’t be surprised if he rested at times. May play both some weeks and ‘rest’ Big Boy

True but Worpel, Titch, Mitchell, Ward, MacDonald, Shiels, nuke, Finn, Nash, Wingard all need time in the middle.

Would be surprised to see Shiels phased out, But the rest are by far most effective in the middle, hard to fit them all in.

It is by far the biggest issue I have without list at the moment, way too many mid only players

My biggest concern for Titch is whether Hawks see themselves as premiership threats the next couple of years? I think the answer is clearly no given with the rumored firesale that didn't gain legs last trade window.

And then there's Sam Mitchell as a first year coach, would he really want to finish~ 9th-12th? Then get worse from there in the 2nd and 3rd year? Doubt it.

Hawks internally (other than the players) and Sam Mitchell as an individual would probably prefer to finish spoon or bottom 4 this year, get some good picks then grow from there. It's a free swing this year without any critics and without expectations for improvement. Wiping the slate clean as it were.

Tom Mitchell is 28. Realistically he's probably not a part of the next Hawks tilt. So what benefit is there in playing him 100% in the guts and taking development out of the youth? Very little I would've thought.

Mitchell can't play anywhere else..... But then I don't think that is really a concern of Sam Mitchell or the Hawks right now. I am definitely concerned they'll be content to sit him forward for stints while they rotate the new guys through..

He'll still be a high % midfield just so they don't get totally dominated in the clearance count, but I can certainly see justification for thinking his CBA's will drop this year......

Thoughts?

I think you're overthinking Titch.

As you said, he can't play anywhere else

McGrath is an interesting one - went at 94 prior to his injury game last year with a couple of big tons in there, and is priced at 84. Into his fifth season now so primed for a breakout.

Fantasy-friendly team (relatively) and if he did a bit of half-back work he could get DPP. Competing with Serong/Danger/Crouch for that under-priced premo mid to start. 1% ownership.

Would be a perfect candidate for that low-ownership points-bonus idea I suggested a few months back. As it stands, it feels safer going with the pack and picking those more popular options around his price but there's no reason he couldn't out-perform them this year.

Think his output will be limited to around 90 in that role. The Essendon backline is a bit of a salad with everyone trying to get a touch

Was pretty happy with my starting midfield (Titch, Adams, Neale, etc.).

Then I started reading this thread...

All part of the circle of life that is preseason fantasy.

Phase 1: Fantasy opens. Enter team. Looks pretty good and spare cash. This year is going to be so easy.
Phase 2: A week or two of serenity. Ive already nailed this team.
Phase 3: Boredom takes over and the tweaks start. The rumours began circling. "Training the house downs" start entering your team
Phase 4: Happy medium arrives. A calmness comes over you. This year is the year you won't throw your team away as soon as practise matches start.
Phase 5: Throw your team away, Practise matches have started.
Phase 6: Round 1 is tomorrow and you have no idea which out of 285 permutations of your team your picking
Phase 7: Relton Roberts is named ah stuff it throw him in.
Phase 8: Drink heavily.

This is too real - although I'd change Phase 8 to 'scream at the tv', 'pull your hair out' and then 'drink heavily' :tearsofjoy:

Guth with monster numbers there

If you’re talking more attacking footy, there’s the option of playing one of their creative ball users, Mitch Duncan or Cameron Guthrie, as a rebounding half-back.

Gary Rohan played back late last year with some success and, let’s be honest, his days as a forward are numbered.

Guth won't be sent back again, as he did it for years and the midfield is now his to lead alongside Danger and Parf. Dunc on the other hand, definitely can, as he can play pretty much anywhere and make it look good (very much like Whit in that his starting position doesn't matter as he just plays across the entire field where he's needed).

Rohan has been floated before, but his big problem is he's a complete liability when it comes to defending another player. Running them down yes, but positioning down back would be a nightmare and open us up as he would try and leave his man far often.

For now, I'd say Stewart leads that brigade, and Tuohy operates on the other side to give us ball use and dash. Holmes will push back with his enormous tank, as will I. Smith and Menegola. My personal choice who I would love to see on the half back line though, is Shaun Higgins - as he's an incredible ball user and could really give his career a new lease on life, as he apparently has had probably close to the best pre-season of any at the club. Who knows if it'll happen or if things will change up with other personnel, but that's how I see things at the moment :)

P.S. keep an eye on Cooper Whyte, as he was always the Falcons smokey that I had my eye on - and he's having a phenomenal pre-season. Holmes is another that really could score well if the mid role is there this season.

I love the fact we get more constructive and better conversations here about Geelong compared to the Geelong board most of the time lol

Also Agree with every thing you said :thumbsu:

Hahaha, so true. Compared to some boards though, we're not too bad - but this board is always my 'happy place' given the great, supportive and constructive convos we always have :)

There are a lot of posters who get more constructive footy talk, here on the Fantasy Boards ....than on the respective Club Boards

On the ADEL Board ....all the talk is footy politics and historical dramas of the Crows .....it's disappointingly, not a great football chat location

Free of angst here too ;)

Can any of you legends tell me how Jack Steele’s scoring was affected when Zac Jones was injured. Is that when he went on his big heater?

Don't think there was much correlation between Jones and Steele. Crouch was the one that was day and night role and score wise depending if Jones was in.

Steele went on a fair run while Jones was out, however was going well before that and continued going ballistic after Jones was back in round 17. Excluding the 78 in round 1 (don't know what happened there) his 2 sub 100 games for the year were split 1 with Jones and 1 without him. 2 of his 3 highest scores (149, 163) came in rounds 18 & 20 right after Jones returned.

I think there's enough there to say Jones doesn't have much impact on his scoring.
