Bone stress in his pelvis is a very strange injury. At least the club has finally released some info on whatever is happening there. His season is basically over with 8-10 though. Might get 2-3 SANFL games at best for the rest of the year based on those figures.
It's an injury more common in long-distance runners. One step away from a pelvic stress fracture.

Cotton wool him for the year, get him 100% right for 2023, take two MSD picks.

Dr Mark Fisher is still our head doctor.

He has been with us since the start of our AFL days and was Dr Peter Barnes' 2IC up until Barnes left in 2009 to work with Jayco founder and multi-millionaire Gerry Ryan's GreenEDGE Cycling world tour team, which became Orica–GreenEDGE then Orica–BikeExchange then Mitchelton–Scott and now is called Team BikeExchange–Jayco, and I'm sure I missed 2 or 3 or 4 other name changes.

Both Dr Fisher and Dr Barnes were co-founders of SportsMed back in 1987. They both have been Olympic sports doctors, attended Olympics, Comm Games, World Championships and worked with Cycling Australia and SA Sports Institute.

When Barnes left, Fisher became our head doctor and Dr Damian Newberry who works at SportsMed like the other 2, became Fisher's assistant. He wasn't as experienced as Fisher, or Barnes, but had been Sturt's club doctor for a decade.

I noticed in March that Newberry had gone after 11 years with the club, and Fisher now has 2 assistants, Dr Nick Tarca and Dr Jaeger Wylie. They both work at SportsMed with Fisher.

These two doctors are younger than Newberry and a lot younger than Fisher and have no previous Aussie Rules sports medicine experience.

I don't know why they went for 2 assistant doctors after 25 seasons of only having one, whether Doc Fisher is slowly backing off his workload, he'd be mid 60's, I did see him on the boundary line in Hobart on Saturday, or training them to take over from him, but their inexperience could be a factor, especially if Doc Barnes is pulling away from non game day work with the club.

Just dawned on me why Dr Newberry may have also been replaced by 2 docs. The soft cap was cut by $3.2m in 2020 and hasn't gone up by much in last 2 seasons. They might be doing less work than him combined.

It might also be a reason why our rehab isn't as great as some people perceive. If you are still playing and training for 22 games + finals but have less staff on hand because the footy department has been slashed by 1/3rd, then assessments wont be as good as pre the cuts. Probably happening all over the league.

If that's the case, there might be a few claims coming after players retire.

Sam Mayes and Jed McEntee not playing SANFL this week.

Fantasia injured his quad halfway through the first quarter. This guy is finished.

Could understand if people think this is a bad call given his age, but Fantasia should really consider retirement.
It's a great call from a Port Adelaide perspective. The guy is a waste of a list spot and a waste of tpp space. However from his perspective why would he consider retirement? He is getting paid an enormous salary.

Ken Hinkley reincarnated as a player. How many years for him again?

Whose the most injury or scandal prone Bombers player these days? I'm sure Port can make them an offer as if they'd play 22 games a year for 5 years and are Judd, Buddy and Ablett (Jnr or Snr) rolled into one.

If betting agencies were dumb enough to offer odds on this happening we would all be rich as ****.

It’s the most foreseeable thing ever.

**** I saw it before we traded for him.

Right now for what this trade has cost us, it arguably could be called the worst trade port has made, it certainly is in this era anyway.

If Faz ever makes it back to the AFL we should be allowed 2 medical subs. One specifically for him, the other a general sub.

Early days but when all elements of the Dougal Howard trade are considered that has the potential to be an absolute stinker.

I would easily say we’ve lost that trade so far, but it probably hasn’t harmed us.

We picked up another chb cheap enough later, and at least got to take a flyer on a player (Williams) at the draft.

So I think while it could be counted as a loss it’s not costly.

I’ve laid it out before, but there’s ample reason to believe that the trade for Fantasia cost us this years second rounder and 3rd rounders (because we used those picks we then had to trade future picks, then again cause we didn’t have picks we again traded future picks)

Picks we sorely need to address list needs that could easily be available at those picks.

to try to get back into the draft this year it’s very possible we let Amon, a far superior player, walk.

Who gives a shit. he played 15 games last year, kicked 30 goals including 4 in a final. Its a good return already.

If hes going to miss with injury, nows the best time.

So playing 2/3rds of the season in a year it would be flattering to call us also-rans is a “good return”?

Bullshit.

Absolutely no one should be happy that he’s so predictably (never played a full year in his career remember) taken up residence in our medical rooms.

All the talk was that he will turn it around at port.

That clearly hasn’t happened, and at 27 when the bloke can’t even get through a modified light warm up without tearing like tissue paper it would take a miracle to change.

And now isn’t a good time, with Fantasia there is no good time because you cannot reliably say that he will come back and then be injury free.

Whether we chalk this up to hubris on behalf of the club (hell we got some semi injured players to near health we can now resurrect the dead) or someone pushing hard for Fantasia (Bassett?) it was a bad decision
