We need a thread for something other than Rankine and Luko.
Having seen Brisbane torch us with their team of trades this week, I wonder where the next Neale or Lyon is?

Bailey Dale is interesting as a free agent.

If we think he could play wing/midfield and Seedsman doesn’t improve, I’d be keen.

Do you break the bank for Kysiah Pickett at this point and try to pry him out (or at least try to make it harder for Melbourne to hold on to all of their players)? Another fun name to target could be Will Day.

I am thinking they had hately and dawson in mind in that regard for our midfield. Hately might be a bust but dawson should help in that regard
Yes ....just shows how important Dawson's acquisition has been

Did we not talk excessively about this smallness / sameness in the midfield, last Draft Period ??

The player on the weekend who dominated us the most was 177cm. He's also an extremely clever footballer.

Brisbane midfield as a unit aren't big bodied. They're just very good and experienced.

I agree we still need an elite mid or two and size is obviously a bonus, but I don't think they HAVE to be big bodied.

Here's the list of players who aren't currently contracted for 2023:

Contracted until end of 2022
Billy Frampton
Elliot Himmelberg
Mitch Hinge
James Rowe
Taylor Walker
Lachlan Gollant
James Borlase (R)
Tariek Newchurch (R)
Patrick Parnell (R)
Ben Davis (R)

My guess:
  • Walker to retire.
  • One of Billy/Berg to be delisted (my guess would be Billy)
  • Davis to be delisted.
  • Gollant to be re-signed.
I have no idea what fate awaits the other rookies. Hinge's entire 2021 campaign was wiped out by the shoulder injury, which makes his situation very hard to judge right now (I'm sure it will become clearer once the season begins). Rowe is the one with the big question marks hanging over his head - can he hold off the likes of Rachele, McAdam, and Murphy, to keep his position in the team (and thus on the list)?

Dawson may be that big Mid ? ....there was hope Hately could be a Jarrod Berry type as well ....hope the operative word

Hately doesn't appear to have either the drive or the hardness at the contest that Jarrod has in spades....and certainly not the penetrating kick.

I'm looking at Hately currently as getting close to a bust, thank heavens we didn't have to pay up for him.

Couple of times on the weekend ave paced players ran off Hately ....seems to lack power in his legs

Supposedly marking was Hately's #1 wood ......but ATM he's a mudlin player

Interesting

This is what I'm thinking

Contracted until end of 2022

Billy Frampton - rookie listed (stop gap until with find kpd)
Elliot Himmelberg - traded or delisted (Need to find new talls stocks with Worrell and fisher not coming on)
Mitch Hinge - contract extensions mid season
James Rowe - rookie listed (good depth, but may fall out with Murphy still contracted)
Taylor Walker - 1 year extension
Lachlan Gollant - delisted (has something so let's hope list sizes get larger)
James Borlase - delisted (I like him but can't see a spot if list sizes don't get bigger)
Tariek Newchurch - elevated (will get a run by the end of the year)
Patrick Parnell - extended (so much talent)
Ben Davis - delisted (unlucky let hope list sizes get bigger, just started to find his feet)

4 list spots available
2022 draft

Lemmey. Key fwd
Rankine. Small fwd
Fs selection.
Freeman elevation. (Depends how he goes this year) midfielder

2023 would have to be all about getting midfield talent. Not opposed to started to turn over mid range talent to get more draft capital. We are stacked with HB/small-meduim defenders
players.

Hamill (keep) brown replacement
McPherson (trade)
Jones (keep - trade when Tasmania team starts up)
Milera (turn into mid/fwd)
Hinge (keep)
Smith (keep)
Parnell (keep)
Sholl (trade)
Davis (maybe keep)

It's pretty unlikely he's going to be that guy at the clinches. We're likely looking at a guy who's there to own the wings and capitalise on whatever hard work the inside crew does.

My guesses from a year out:

Billy Frampton: Delist
Elliot Himmelberg: Delist
Mitch Hinge: Keep
James Rowe: Rookie list
Taylor Walker: Retire
Lachlan Gollant: 2-year contract
James Borlase (R): Delist
Tariek Newchurch (R): 1-year rookie contract, or delisted with the promise of being re-drafted. (I can't remember how rookie contracts work).
Patrick Parnell (R): 3-year contract and promotion to the main list in 2024.
Ben Davis (R): Delist.

That Roo type player ? ......Roo though wasn't tall, but incredibly strong ....can Schoenberg be that player, in a couple of PS's

Nope, Roo was an Italian Stallion, Schoenberg is never going to have his raw power.

Hinge might be that player I'm hoping.

Edit : Roo going OK in the breeding barn too.;)

Hately is slow, fumbly and mis-times his kicks (which leads to floating kicks with no penetration).
Watching him now, I genuinely can't see how he got drafted. So disappointing.
