AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
I have to disagree with you.
When Leppitsch was sacked they had become incredibly easy to score against, and that’s relative to the other teams at the bottom of the ladder.
View attachment 1459280
They were however, compared to other sides at the bottom a much better scoring team. That did not change significantly, however there was a massive change in points against, I don’t think that happened without there being some deliberate planning occurring.
But anyway, we’re arguing over minor points, do you disagree with my overall point?
Huh? It was the opposite. 7 clubs spoke to Carmichael and we were the only ones to speak to Turner.lmao. What's your theory? Just pure incompetence? I guess that is AFC drafting's MO
I don't watch ressie's but it sounds like every man and his dog rated Turner higher than Carmichael.

Pick 8 for Doedee? Where do I sign?A hypothetical:
Gold Coast miss the finals again, but are feeling pretty confident they can make finals next year. They need a bit of extra experience though.
Gold Coast offer their first pick (pick 7-8) for Doedee.
On one hand, Doedee's form hasn't been great this year, he also has been fairly injury prone over the years.
On the other hand, we have very little quality in his age bracket and he is the Captain in waiting. He's very settled and happy in Adelaide.
Do you take the deal?
Start the f**king car.Pick 8 for Doedee? Where do I sign?
Our recruiters always think they are one step ahead of everybody else. They love those 'out of left field' picks.Huh? It was the opposite. 7 clubs spoke to Carmichael and we were the only ones to speak to Turner.
Cant wait for which gun kid we are going to overlook for another 175cm player to add to McMurphy and Rowe. Our recruiters always think they are one step ahead of everybody else. They love those 'out of left field' picks.
Ask them to chuck in Rankine if they're feeling that generous.Start the f**king car.
That was my initial reaction, but I don't think the club would do it.Pick 8 for Doedee? Where do I sign?
Even if it reduced our experience levels you could dangle pick 8 in front of a number of clubs for a better experienced player, especially a midfielderThat was my initial reaction, but I don't think the club would do it.
I suspect the damage to the club culture might be too significant, not to mention the impact it would have on our experience levels. Losing those types of players in a rebuild leaves you at Carlton/Melbourne levels of despair.
I'd still do it though...
I'll throw in a free Crouch with thatPick 8 for Doedee? Where do I sign?
I think we would have to give up pick 3 as well if we want to offload Crouch....I'll throw in a free Crouch with that
I'd take pick 8 for pretty much anyone on the list bar a coupleA hypothetical:

JHF, Rankine, Michaelanny and young ruck is achievable. This off-season is pretty simple.
We just need to bring in JHF, Rankine, Phillipou, Michaelanney and a young ruck.
Rebuild on track, top 8 in 2023 - easy peasy.
JHF, Rankine, Michaelanny and young ruck is achievable.
Getting Phillipou on top of that is not you'd have to say.
JHF for Doedee and 2023 first
Michalanney with points for trade outs like Sholl, Frampton?
Young ruck rookie draft
Pick 4 for Rankine and GC first (9?).
You'd have to question whether Phillipou gets to 9.
And how we would screw up a pick 9.
We tend to fair better with top 2 picks.
Kouta dominated as a mid and changed the game .Michael Voss springs to mind.
Trent Rivers to replace Brodie Smith would be nice.Just thinking, Melbourne have been signing up their key players on big deals. And while they are trading length of contract for $$ a bit, they must still have a very tight cap.
So it seems like the perfect time to target some of their younger guys with bigger offers.
Who would you go after?
Kozi? Bedford? Pace and x factor
Weideman? Petty? Key position depth?
There must be someway of returning the Lever favour.
I remember seeing a Brad Scott interview with North after they started to gut their list. The topic was basically because North were scoring quite a lot for a youngish side but defensively leaked huge scores. The overall reason this was discussed was because his method went against the 'usual' method of trying to restrict scoring first. The way he saw it he said learning to score was harder than learning to defend so he wanted his guys to score first and because the other side of the coin is 'just structures and faster to learn.'Really?
In his first two years they made very little improvement with their scores for, but brought their scores against down by almost 40 points indicating that the key focus was improving defensively.
There’s a similar story with the Dees when Roos took over in 2014.
Points for
2013 - 66.14 (18th)
2014 - 60.73 (18th)
2015 - 71.5 (16th)
Points against
2013 - 122.32 (17th)
2014 - 88.82 (12th)
2015 - 92.91 (13th)
In his first year they actually got worse offensively, and didn’t improve on the ladder, but they did bring scores against down which set the base to build their game on.
We saw similar numbers with Richmond around the time they cracked the finals before going on their run.
Points for:
2012 - 98.59 (8th)
2013 - 97.91 (5th)
2014 - 85.77 (11th)
2015 - 87.73 (9th)
Points against:
2012 - 88.32 (10th)
2013 - 79.73 (3rd)
2014 - 81.09 (8th)
2015 - 71.27 (3rd)
They actually went backwards fairly significantly in attack, but built their defensive base before becoming a higher scoring team in their flag years.
It’s not to say this is the only way to build a flag team, but it is a theory that has worked for a lot of clubs.
No, they already have Ballard who’s way better.A hypothetical:
Gold Coast miss the finals again, but are feeling pretty confident they can make finals next year. They need a bit of extra experience though.

Manager would like his ten percent to be the biggest ten percent.I doubt we get Rankine, purely gut feel but the manager hating us stuff worries me a lot too.
What are people’s thoughts on Jacob Edwards from North? He was highly rated at the mid season draft from memory and North have a heap of ruck/forwards with Xerri, CCJ and Comben, would he be worth involving in those hypothetical JHF negotiations?
I think we need to get a ruck who can play forward, Thilthorpe needs a 50/50 split over the next couple of years as he develops IMO, and I think we look a better team at times when he rucks, but I can’t see ROB or Strachan working in our forward line.
Yep, again I’m not saying it’s the only way to do it, but it is a common theory and it has been shown to work on multiple occasions so if that is Nicks’ method I don’t have a problem with it.I remember seeing a Brad Scott interview with North after they started to gut their list. The topic was basically because North were scoring quite a lot for a youngish side but defensively leaked huge scores. I'm not saying he's right or wrong, just merely pointing out that particular interview suggested, as you are, that sides rebuilding often try learn to defend first before adding scoring later.
