Ch7 broadcast just said over 16,000 at Leederville Oval for the WAFL grand final.

Which is really good, as the capacity was said to be 14,000.

Edit: to add images and show crowd of 16,791

We now have creative crowd counting when you get nearly 17,000 in a 14,000 ground capacity ;)

I just watched a bit of the NRL post match which now is just a second rate copy of the AFL and as for their pre match entertainment surely they could have done a lot better than an over the hill Barnes?

People don't understand how tv ratings work. The AFL GF always outrates the NRL GF, except this year because of the one sided contest i expected NRL to possibly win. They had a one sided game too last night, so the casual viewer would have flicked off as well during the game. Similar to the AFL grand final it brought the ratings down significantly.

It doesnt always outrate it.

Sunday night definitely does help them, can you imagine how dire those numbers would look played early Saturday afternoon?

I actually thought a big Western Sydney Derby, with so many wanting to jump on the Parra bandwagon after a 38 year premiership drought, was going to generate absolutely massive interest, and that that would show in the TV ratings.

Is that HT scoreline enough to scare most neutrals off tuning into the 2nd half. I'm not sure it is. I think the real truth is that an all Sydney grand final just doesn't generate the same widespread interest as an all Melbourne AFL grand final - I think that's the real point of all of this.

And with Penrith, I mean seriously, unless you lived in that locale, who the hell would ever have a soft spot for Penrith??

This is the point. Sydney is nowhere near as interested in sport in general as Melbourne is, particularly comparing AFL to NRL.

Melbourne had 200k more viewers for the AFL GF with only 1 quasi-Melbourne team playing than Sydney did for the NRL GF with two Sydney teams.

First Monday of October is actually a public holiday in most states (including NSW/QLD/WA/SA) so its more akin to a Saturday night. But no doubt if they played it during the day the figures would be worse.

So you prefer the blue and pink brigade idol Robbie Williams over Jimmy Barnes?
I bet you don't let your mates down the pub know that :)
I guess you prefer Kylie over AC/DC as well :)

So the 14,000 ground capacity wasn't full then?

No, because there was 17k there.
What's with the fixation with Leederville's Oval's capacity ?
The record for Leederville Oval is 24k and I've been there with a 22k.
Nothing much has changed except probably people are quoting a comfortably seated figure.
17k seems the right figure IMO.
