Whilst Fisher has been down on output, he is still remaining somewhat involved. The fumbling and lack of tackles/physical pressure is a concern. Hopefully he works it out, pressure is there from Motlop, and then Honey/Philp in coming weeks.
I don't even view his role as that of a small forward: he's an additional attacking winger. I would liken it to an advanced/attacking mid. His contribution to the F50 structure is minimal, particularly with how he is playing.

That's why I keep suggesting Dow as an alternative: he'd have no problem doing what Fisher does and he's got the better jets. That he can roll into the stoppage and not get flattened by every opponent is a bonus.

Sorry, but Dow as a flanker, coming up to the ball won't work. Motlop, Honey, Cuners or even Carroll is worth debating though

We seemed to be using Walsh in that role quite a bit last week. Saw he'd start at CHF and join the centre bounce stoppage thereafter. Long-term, I think Cuningham is best suited to this role with his power, evasiveness and footskills.

Dow playing that role is an interesting thought, he has the physical tools, but the mental ones?

Philp another

It's weird he's getting singled out for tackles and pressure when he's the highest mark for our 3 smalls in both.

Yeah his fumbling is not good but durdin had only 6 touches in r2 and Owies goes missing and doesn't apply close to the pressure of fish.

Just saying they're all works in progress and fish cops it because, why? He's the most involved and his occasional mistake sticks in the minds of grumpy old men.

He's been the reason we've kicked the winning goal twice in three games.

I think honey will take Owies spit as a marking small forward. He'll apply better pressure than owies. Motlop is the one who could take anyone's spot, sure. I think Philp will only be selected as a winger/rotation through the midfield with Voss philosophy of selecting players in primary positions.

So Durdin out, Plow sub
Saad and Martin in
??
Not a Plow fan but he did a good job last week. Difficult to work out who to drop though.

I just hope Dow gets a crack at it while we're still playing good footy. He hasn't had a chance to play as part of a dominant midfield before. Potentially nice compliment to our existing midfield mix with his explosive speed away from the contest.
Dow is special. Watching his class in heavy traffic, whilst being heavily tagged, in the VFL is a delight.
He needs an opportunity in a good side, I'd give Fish a rest and try rotating several mids through high half forward or wing.
Great situation for Carlton, but tough on Paddy. (I don't want to lose him)

But can he do it at AFL level? Part of me thinks he can, especially with a new coach and a new game plan, but time will tell.

Honey is the one who can be our fritsch. Seems a clear upgrade on owies in just about every facet other than injury availability.

Power athlete who can play as mid sized marking fwd, with elite ability at ground level. Seems to position himself well too.

3 of motlop, honey and durdin hopefully after the bye could be a huge point of difference for our i50 defence and pressure.

One of Owies strengths is his smarts and getting to the right spots.

I'm not sure Honey is as smart as Owies. To be clear, I don't know either way. Haven't seen enough of Honey. He's certainly got Owies covered athletically.

More is expected from Fisher due to him being more talented and a higher draft pick.

Fisher was pick twenty something and has been in the system a long time.

Durdin was drafted last year later in the draft and has played a handfull of games.

Getting anything out of Owies as Cat B is a bonus.

Supporters having different expectations of each is understandable.

With the Durdin HS, I'd be doing Saad for Boyd, Fisher moves to the small fwd role with Jack Martin resuming on field. Just need to pick a sub, and I think Plow will be a favourite for that because of his versatility

Won't be Plowman who is named on the field. Sub comes from the players on the extended bench.

Its not a criticism on Hewett's tank which is good. More pointing out that Touks is obscene. GWS had to use 2 players interchanging off him to shut him down, both accomplished taggers in their own right.
He's like Sam Walsh in terms of tank but has better power running ability to go along with the gut running. Then you see him after the game and it barely even looks like he's gone for a fun run round the park.

It makes sense, it's in his DNA. His Mum was a marathon runner & triathlete.

He's a remarkable athlete, and having seen him round the Gold Coast coffee circuit a few times he's a sharp dresser as well:straining:

He's one that I would definitely love in Navy Blue.

Absolutely, I've had my eyes on him for years.

Unfortunately (for Carlton and other teams) he's very loyal to the Suns and has indicated on several occasions he has no interest in leaving and wants to be with the Suns for the long haul and build something there.

Excellent mindset, a natural leader. Just wish we'd drafted him, he was pick 29 in 2014 and we took the immortal Viojo-Rainbow 1 pick before him at 28 and Boekhorst at 19.
