Its not a criticism on Hewett's tank which is good. More pointing out that Touks is obscene. GWS had to use 2 players interchanging off him to shut him down, both accomplished taggers in their own right.

Good strategy then.

So Durdin out, Plow sub
Saad and Martin in
??
Not a Plow fan but he did a good job last week. Difficult to work out who to drop though.

I just hope Dow gets a crack at it while we're still playing good footy. He hasn't had a chance to play as part of a dominant midfield before. Potentially nice compliment to our existing midfield mix with his explosive speed away from the contest.

Miller does have a massive tank, but one of the tagging players was Ash, who is more a burst player, despite his tank being very good

Not sure Ash is all that accomplished and DeBoer is over the hill.

Ash is the guy we traded for Stocker, Philp and Kemp.

What a genius move that was. Will serve us for the next 10+ years that trade. Thanks SOS.

Out of all the dud off field administrators and recruiters we've had (and there have been many) has there ever been a worse dipsh!t than Cain Liddle? Sacking a Silvagni at Carlton is professional suicide at the best of times but we had the best List Manager in the business - never mind the surname.

Can't see Dow getting a run unless Cripps, Cerra, Hewett or Walsh get injured.

Plow named starting 18, so almost definitely playing.

Two talls and a bunch of mid sized guys is perfect in defence for this game.

Newnes is the perfect sub for this game.

Yet strangely enough, we've bagged all our "big fish" targets each off season since then....

Given the potential mini skills atrophy and lack of touch without a week’s training, wonder if Saad as sub is being considered. Players coming off a week in iso have seemed a bit behind the pace.

Not that I’m saying Saad isn’t an automatic inclusion. Love watching him play.

Austin has done alright.

It's a long term game list management. Short term evaluations arent completely irrelevant but are pretty close to it. Kemp, etc. are still 2+ years from their peak and that was a key trade of the SOS era so it's calling it early right now but 3 seriously talented prospects vs a part time tagger. I'll take that.

Oh, definitely not a criticism of SOS. He's done a fantastic job. I just think we maybe lost a few big names as SOS refused to pull out the cheque book and focused more on bargains. I doubt SOS would have signed Saad for example. He would have seen the price tag and wages and said 'nope'.

SOS was all in on Shiel so had the cheque book out there... careful what you wish for sometimes. Bullet dodged!

Looks like Hewett, Saad, Martin and LOB from that extended bench. Maybe Newnes as the sub, keep Dow playing full VFL games.
Yeah, which is not ideal given last week's performance. We're going to beat GC, but tactical concerns were exposed that need to be considered and addressed. Bare minimum for mine was giving someone else a turn in Fisher's role.

Hopefully a month of football is enough time for the MC to judge performances and make changes.

It’s interesting. Hewitt is one of those under the radar players. I doubt many Carlton fans actually know his name before this year. My whole family are avid Sydney supporters and have sung his praise for years.

Hewitt was often shifted to half back in his last few years at Swans through needs. Prior to that he did defensive jobs on opposition mids while picking up 25-30 possesssions. Anyone who can do that is an elite running athlete

I would not be surprised if LOB gets a run in the two‘s. His kicking, running and positioning is good but I am not sure Voss will continue to put up with all the missed tackles and lost ground ball contests. I personally think if he can’t learn to stick his tackles he should be moved on.

I’ve been harsh on LOB but has played very well so far this season.

Hewett also got a couple of goes as the main clearance player when Kennedy was out and quietly did very nicely. Just a tidy consistent player.

Whilst Fisher has been down on output, he is still remaining somewhat involved. The fumbling and lack of tackles/physical pressure is a concern. Hopefully he works it out, pressure is there from Motlop, and then Honey/Philp in coming weeks.

Doubt it. Even at 80% Saad is much better then Boyd. Also, Saad isnt a mid so if he is off peak fitness shouldnt matter as much. Just play him as a deeper defender.

I'm not massive on LOB's ability at AFL level, but I am not sure we can drop him at the moment. He is doing a great job at the moment and there are a few players I'd currently prefer outside of the best 22 before him.

I am hoping that Honey or Carroll will eventually take his place.
