List Mgmt. 2022 Senior List - The Final TWO Spots

At the start of the season, I strongly believed our spine, in terms of options was a major weakness, now I see it as a non-negotiable

Harry being out (although the coaching group have adjusted well) has shown just how thin we are, but you can manufacture a different looking forward setup to still be dangerous

Omac, Gov, Marchbank (the last 2 are only 3rd talls) out and or still having concerns, leaves us with only Weitering and Young. This is the area of most concern, especially against sides that play genuine KPFs and a resting ruckman

Pitto and now possibly Mirkov, leaves TDK only, again, way too thin

So, best targets would be 2 spine players, 1 KPD, 1 Ruckman/resting forward. Someone like a Ballenden would give us cover anywhere down the spine and there are others that are dual position players

While I wouldn't consider us a real contender for a flag this year, anything can happen, especially if the best clubs suffer some injuries in Spetember

Get it done Austin, 2 spine players just makes sense, heading into finals

So much wrong here old mate along with some good logic.

We are a flag contender. Anyone entrenched in the eight is. Granted we will get better, but the layers are going down quickly. We were finals quality with very ordinary coaching and development added Hewett, Cerra and Young with some developing kids. Not finished product, but ANY GIVEN DAY…

Harry on target for six weeks, already two down and coped adequately so far. Bye then potentially two to go.

No verdict on big Mirk yet and Marchy sounds precautionary. Too many here seemingly suffering PTSD and always think the worst.

If Mirkov is down for significant weeks absolutely grab an insurance ruck, with a short term contract. But be honest with who we take, lends itself to a Victorian based type for minimal disruption and settling in. Already said Ballenden a more serious player than I previously thought, but is in no way a long term option. 6 month contract, upend his life again to move for little opportunity. I have a but more humanity than to pick ‘em up then spit ‘em out. Really wanting long term prospects. The KPP “overagers” interest me Derksen, Reinhold, Toby Murray is raw, your roughy Hilder, and none would be quick fix. Couple of lesser regarded state leaguers more ready to go. I am fairly certain the dogs are barking Carmichael with our first if he get’s that far.

I am an optimist, Marchy will come good. Kemp will continue to come on. Akuei will be a player 2024 though. OMac is the killer unfortunately. We absolutely need to lock down a KPP in the MSD, preferably long term type rather than stop gap.

If you believe we are not a flag contender, what is to lose recruiting for the future, not the now?

I understand your spine obsession, but, dead set, if OMac was fit, there would be no urgency. Address, not panic.

Oh, old I am Coona ;)

Most, if not all, on this board could call my concern with our spine an obsession and while I have banging on for well over 2 years, we are still here with probably the thinnest spine in the league

Not sure how long it will continue, but let me reiterate, Marchbank and Kemp are not KPPs, same as Plow and Parks and same as Akuei who is miles off AFL standard. Mirkov, even if he hasn't gone down injured, is 12-18 months away from having a game beyond hitouts

In terms of spine players, that are, what I consider ready made players:

Backline: Weitering, Young, Omac (Now out for the year)
Ruck: TDK, Pitto (Out until the backend of the year)
Forwards: Charlie (imagine how tough a matchup if he could play as a 3rd tall), Harry (Currently injured)

While I don't see us a genuine contender this year, I also stated that anything can happen if you make finals. A guy like Ballenden is a player that could hit the ground running, while still young enough to improve further. His selection shouldn't be seen as just a short term fix.

There are others that are younger, which I would be fine with taking as a longer term view, but given we have 2 picks, we could satisfy short/mid term as well as longterm stategy

Sam Durdin has nominated for the mid season draft...I wonder if we have any interest.

Well, if the rumours are true and he’s fit and been putting in some hard yards on the track, Kreuzer is that Ruck/Resting forward option for a 6 month contract.

Need another KP defender though, preferably a longer term backup option.

Which rumours?

Liked him in his draft year, but really struggled to develop, haven't seen much of him this year to pass judgement

Neither.

Former pick 16 so you'd think he showed a fair bit in juniors unless it was always a reach by North.

Geez he's the perfect size though, listed at 198cm and about 98kgs. 25 years old too.

Young is playing the best footy of his career with us...maybe our coaches and system could get something out of Durdin. And he only needs to be good enough for a depth player and do a lockdown job...not asking him to be a star.

Well, he can play both ends, so wouldn't be the worst selection if he has improved this year

Yep, you were on about our spine all trade/ draft/ preseason. You were correct. Even with the injuries we were light on.

It's going to be a tough ask for Austin and Co, to get a pair of quality players this MSD...
Hope we have someone hidden away...

Likely draft order will be...

1. Eagles
2. North
3. *
4. Crows
5. Hawks
6. Suns - Not sure why they are allowed, they already have 50 players on their list...
7. Port
8. Pies
9. Tigers
10. Cats
11. Saints
12. Freo
13. Blues
14. Eagles
15. *
16. Crows
17. Saints
18. Blues

Hope Oscar does the right thing and retires immediately to give us another swing at the MSD
Body clearly not up to it
I'm glad we didn't go this path with Curnow.

McDonald is likely twice the player than what is in the preseason draft and maybe better than what we can recruit from other clubs, maybe.

Let's not forget he can play key forward, key back and 2nd ruck at AFL level. He's in his prime years. He's very valuable to us if he gets his body right.

IMO we delist him and pick him back up as a rookie, back our selves to get him right.

Plenty of athletes suffer from chronic back stress fractures and come good.

We need to tidy a lot up on our list, project players on a reduced sized list in a premiership contender is not on. Mirkov and Akuei should be on our reserves list, not AFL, players who can't play AFL when fit is not good for us.

Love your post, but OMac is already a rookie.
