Eric Benning sighted in the photos from today's training at Optus. Looking trim!

Unless I am greatly mistaken that is Luke Valente

We don’t know the monetary aspec of the contract, if it’s 3 years at 200k I have no problem with it. He’s a solid lock down defender who can come in during an injury or covid crisis and play a solid role for the team, besides we probably owed him something for the number of times we’ve put him on the rookie list.
I'm not fussing about the money. Three year deals are for best 22 players. But right now I don't even think he is next in.

Yep. He could get to know every blade of grass at Rushton intimately over the next few years.

yeah as much as I like hughes and his toughness, I’m not sure where he fits into the side at this point.

Weird scenario because he would've signed it right after the 2020 season where him + our whole backline had a really good year but one injury and he's nowhere near b22 anymore. Regardless of if he was or not 3 years always felt excessive and especially now where he doesn't look like playing a game.

Reminds me of blakely singing a 3 year deal while he still showed promise and being nothing but delist material since

I thought he signed it early 2021, but yeah either way given the amount of resources we’ve put into the position, it was always conceivable that one bad injury would see him on the outer and that it may not age well.

Yeah signed in early 2021 which means negotiations would've been initiated at the end of his 2020 season

I agree. It's like Blakely all over again
Think people underestimate the depth of the backline.
Hughes is an elite mark, and surprisingly good mover. Always out his body on the line. He was a mainstay 2020, and unfortunate shoulder injury in 2021. Suddenly Young, Chapman, Walker has emerged in less then a season and he’s on the outer.
Blakely was touted as the replacement for Neale, and the midfield was inexperienced. What did he do? For surfing and gets injured. Life comes differently

When the club was handing out contracts last year, they decided Ethan Hughes was worth signing up for 3 years while the season was in progress. Wilson had to wait until after we finished playing to get a 1 year deal.

Wilson's whipping boy status is just reading the tea leaves
Wilson is overrated. Goes missing and is a rake in a position where have to be defensively strong. Has no other tricks other then evasiveness and he lost that last season. Plus the coaches probably got fed up with his antics against Bulldogs then that HTB crap. Walker and Chapman are primed to replace him.
Wilson also seems to have off field issues that means he’s not as passionate on field. But I could be wrong. He’s not the same player these days . Ryan can kick and Young too

I'm sorry to go against the grain but I don't think Darcy + Meek is the future. I think Meek is excellent as a backup ruck but he's a bit of a break glass in case of emergency as a forward/ruck. I'm bullish on Benning who will be the one coming for Lobb's spot later this year or next hopefully.
Seems 90% rooted in ‘**** Lobb’ more so than any logic (with the odd exception).

Meek will never be as good as Lobb as a forward which is what the team needs more than a quality relieving ruckman
