If Sean Darcy woke up this morning and next to him was Dean Sarcy who is exactly like him in every way, an exact clone.

Do we play two of him?

Nah, in this hypothetical situation, you play the best one, and keep the other hidden away for spare parts.

I mean, who's to know?

Besides, freddy has a twin, and we got the better version.

We are falling right into the 12pm- 2pm time slot for Trade Radio with this, but which three current players would you clone to play both in the side at once?

Freddy is probably one of them given his unique physical abilities.

We end up talking about how no matter how good elite players are their elite features aren't across the board and playing more of them compounds those weaknesses. The mental exercise that helps understand team balance.

3x Pav's would have been handy.

Current side/s 2x Bonts would be handy, one mid, one forward.
2x H Mckay, and get rid of the other tall forwards.

Walsh is a good mix of inside and outside, so 2 of him would be handy running through the middle

Lobb needs to play his ass off this year, because he won't be playing for us next year. It will help him get a better deal at GWS, and it will help us hopefully make finals and then secure a better trade deal. Win win loss win.
He is a preferred best 22 player with no replacement on the list and is contracted for next year, so it's reasonable to think he will be playing for us next year.

Only players from our current list.

Currently, Cox, one back, one forward and lose Lobb.
Chapman and Brayshaw potentially.

Be interesting how this thought experiment looks by the end of the year.

I'm not sure I agree with the notion that only B22 players should be offered 3 year contracts. Clearly that is going to be the norm, but if we could lock in say Meek (or any other player who is essentially AFL quality but behind a B22 superstar), on money that we believe to be below market, that may be considered smart business. Over a three year horizon they're going to come into play at some point, and it may just be crucial.

Guess it depends on how squeezy we are, or will be, against the cap.

I think I see a forward/ruck differently in terms of expectations. They don't need to be a particularly good ruck, they need to compete. Someone recently proposed Treacy in that kind of role which I quite like, more for his mobility and football ability than any sense that he may win a ruck battle.

I wonder how much time Lobb spends training in the ruck position compared to Meek? Casboult (in his prime)? Rare to hear much about that in our training reports which are dominated by Meek/Darcy.

You just need to look at Hawkins last year to see how much difference a forward can make if he is a good ruck option. I reckon he got half his goals (and created heaps for others) out of ruck stoppages in the F50

I can see that rucks may be different. Beyond that I'd be limiting contracts for depth players to 2 years. I think Hughes is really good and wouldn't want to lose him, and I do expect he would be on fairly basic benefits, but I don't like the situation we had with Giro and Blakeley.

I like how Geelong use Hawkins. He only rucks on the forward line. Lobb is used quite differently.

The only answer is Chapman. If I absolutely have to pick 2 others (and waste the cloning tech), it'd be Sturt (so he has the spares ready and we can put him back at 100% fitness) and Brayshaw
Yes!

Six Chapmans.

One on half back, both wings, two inside mids and a half forward.

Given the strong opinions on him, there'll always be a fair percentage of pre-conceptions in interpreting how much effort Lobb puts in. It's a bit in the Mark Waugh zone too, where it's a bit "is he being laconic or lackadaisical?" I mean his ceiling (for this year at least) and what his role is, is higher than Meeks.

I don't have an issue with "laconic".

I have an issue with getting two hands to the ball and spilling it...constantly

Eric Benning sighted in the photos from today's training at Optus. Looking trim!

Good to see him on the track actually training after Bell saying that he may be a few weeks away from that.

in their prime, Fyfe, Mundy and Walters. 2013 GF midfield group was Mundy and Fyfe plus Barlow and Crowley. Replace Barlow and Crowley and you have the best midfield in the comp by a lot. Plus two Walters running around near goals would make use of the midfield dominance.

Or just Logue so you could try one of them on the wing.
