Would be happy if we added Anderson and blakely. Depth for midfield and depth for half back/wing, particularly while weller and Budarick recover. Would leave us with key position defender the only spot we may lack.

Anderson would be a good pick up, but dew will have to play him and not let him sit in the seconds all year.

Does he? I would have thought Anderson is in a position where he can't dictate whether he plays AFL or VFL given he was just delisted by the current wooden spooners. Although I do expect Anderson to play in our AFL team next year should we pick him up this off season, I don't think there are any guarantees. If anyone on the list isn't performing then their place in the best 22 isn't safe IMO.

Why?
What’s with the obligation to play a guy who just got delisted from the worst team in the comp.

I think he’ll mostly be injury back up, another Darwin link, and hopefully another good senior mentor fit our indigenous players.

Go check out PM Bangers write up on his mock draft top 20.

Says developed based on intel, rumours and his opinion.

Has essendon taking Humphrey although says not guaranteed.

Ginbey our pick. With Humphrey if Ginbey gone to Essendon and Clark in the mix as well interestingly.

Hollands going to carlton in many mock drafts.

What would people think if swapped our 2023 1st for Carlton’s pick 11 and took hollands to accompany our choice at pick 5/6?
Yeah I would be very keen to do that. I really want hollands just not sure if Carlton would agree to it.

i think the Anderson signing is yuck, the guy had a vax side effect so struggles to get fitness (not his fault)

Maybe I worded it wrong, give him an opportunity to prove himself at senior level. Fringe players picked up can often sit in the twos making their recruitment pointless, if you are going with a 28 year old you'd wanna have a role you envisage for him in the seniors and give him an opportunity to prove himself early on imo.

Here is a role for him - a cheap midfield depth in case of injuries or drop of form. :p

Yep. A cheap Bowes replacement, essentially. Save 500k+

So Constable, Fiorini and someone like Anderson give us good experience, mentoring, bigger bodies, depth etc. but they can all play AFL if needed (or put pressure on underperforming mids).

Whichever mid we draft might actually have bigger, experienced bodies around them to let him develop properly in the VFL for once...

Interesting to see Bowes (and Raines) still on the GC training on the Palmy Lions oval. Much like Rankine before him, Bowes doesn't seem to be in a hurry to leave the Gold Coast and I'd say there's a decent chance he ends up back on the GC once his career comes to an end.

Can't help but think Bowes was unwilling to re-negotiate his contract with us and therefore we really had no option but to ask him to leave. Fiorini, Sexton and Macpherson are all recent examples of guys that have smoothed their bigger contracts by extending a year or two. Craig Cameron even said that was an option with Jack but talks didn't progress in that regard, which I think would have been roadblocked by Bowes' management. We tried to trade Macpherson to North last year but Darcy showed that he actually wanted to stay here and took less money to stay. Unfortunately it would appear the same can't be said about Bowes.

Honestly, I re-watched now most games and in 4 games Bowes played for some reason he was one of the worst players. Not sure if he lost confidence or what it was but he was far from a promise early in his career. Looking forward to seeing how he goes with Cats. Wish him only the best. BTW, Markov was also bloody average in games I re-watched. Both are probably good list decisions.

I love the Jack Bowes story but good god almighty he was woeful this year
Couldnt break a tackle in the VFL and looked to be going up and down in the one spot at AFL level
Geelong might turn him around

Seems like Bowes was happy to cruise on his $800k a year salary and not push himself. Sad that it had to end this way but as stated above, it was probably a good list decision from us. Best of luck to him going forward but we also have to move forward as a club and sub par efforts are completely unacceptable at this stage in our list development.

Really?? He's helped the club twice by delaying the money he was owed and when he's like maybe this year someone else can help you out and you can pay me the money I'm owed he's hurting the club.

The club ****ed up, not Bowes.

He will go to Cats, play midfield and have a good career and the Suns will be a distant memory.

Dudes body reminds me so much of Hugh Greenwood. Tall, solid but lean midfielder with wide shoulders.
I'm actually quite buoyant for what we've done this trade period. In reality we've lost Rankine (which is not good) and a few delistings which really don't matter. Bowes wasn't in best 22 and will be a maybe until we see how he goes at Geelong. If we get Ginbey (a Clayton Oliver type) which is a good chance and add him to Anderson (Jed), Blakely (maybe), Ben Long, Tom Barry - then I'll take that. Be an interesting time coming up. Fingers crossed we don't f...k it up.

Agree. List is in a good spot at the moment and if Ginbey works out he will be a valuable addition with a point of difference and versatility.

We are guaranteed to have to trade one of our talented talls in a couple years though. No way can we fit all of them.

Normally you guys have announced your Academy NT players by now, wonder whether the hold up is due to a decision on whether Tedcastle is eligible having played in Vic this year
