I wonder what the tipping point will be with salary dumps? I don't follow US sports but it's apparently common there. What are the long term effects?

Hawthorn are paying $750k for two players to play elsewhere
Collingwood reportly $600k for the same with Treloar and Grundy.

Not sure if giving away pick 7 is better or worse than that amount of salary?

I guess it's using an asset (salary or picks) to improve your list, but how much of it will AFL allow. Half the league doing it? Or do they not care?
I follow the NBA.

Their system is so much more complicated than ours. You can put protections on picks, say you trade a future first round pick, but you get to keep it if it is a top 10 pick, but the other team gets it, if it falls outside the top 10.

One team once traded a single second round pick to 5 different teams, by having various protections on it.

If an NBA team was trading pick 7 in a player salary dump, you can be certain they'd be dumping a player who was on 10%+ of their salary cap.

Does it mean that Fiorini and Sexton contracts expire in 2025 ("extended for 2 more years")?

Gold Coast (6)

Jed Anderson*, Connor Blakely*, Levi Casboult*, Charlie Constable*, Sam Day^, Jake Stein*
* Previously delisted
^ Previously a free agent
There’s a fair bit to unpack here. The Suns slashed two names off their 2023 free agency list after the trade period, when they extended Brayden Fiorini - who was linked with Collingwood - and Alex Sexton for two more years to remedy their salary cap hit. That followed Jack Bowes’ trade to Geelong for cap relief. Gold Coast’s three recycled recruits - Anderson, Blakely and Stein - all scored one-year, prove-it deals. Casboult will try to keep retirement at bay with another big season up forward, while Day needs to deliver more to earn another contract.

I believe these are the players off contract at the end of 2023 season. Did I miss someone or have incorrect info?

Senior list (10): Farrar, Anderson, Rowell, Flanders, Casboult, Day, Sharp, Holman, Rosas, Constable

Rookie list (8): Uwland, Brock, Tsitas, Faulkhead, Blakely, Jed Anderson, Stein, Oea

I assume Johnston got 2 years contract.

Would of been a easier signature one would think.

Less games. Unlucky with injury.

Not as damaging as Anderson is atm…

Anderson would have more currency and clubs chasing him.

1 down 1 to go
In sure he will sign on, says he loves the club and his mates. Just like Rankin…….
