AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Watching the reserves on Saturday night the crunch of bodies is audible when a small crowd allows the noise to reverberate. I wouldn’t be expecting too much in Walters first seasonKeeping a lid on walter expectations but he is a lot more physically advanced than most talls coming into their first year. Helps he doesn't have to be the no.1 target. I could see him starting in the reserves but quickly being a part of the afl team.
I don’t blame him for wanting to play senior footy, and that’s looking even less likely in the next season unless Sarah’s injuries.Sounds like Chol is gone
What am I missing here?.......is "Sarah" a nick name for someone?I don’t blame him for wanting to play senior footy, and that’s looking even less likely in the next season unless Sarah’s injuries.
He proved to be significantly better than advertised when we gave him a shot to play as a full-time forward, and as such, we should get at least get a late 2nd for him IMO
Personally I’d rather see us take a shot at Dougal Howard, every side is looking for KPD depth and I feel like Howard could fill the void alongside Ballard, Collins and Andrew while Ethan Reid develops into the player we know he will be over the next 2-3 years.Would losing Chol and bringing in jade Gresham be a win.
Free agent.
Would most likely be best 22 in a forward pocket
Gresham would be the worst kick on our team. And that's with how bad we are by foot already.Would losing Chol and bringing in jade Gresham be a win.

Love his defensive efforts. He’s already better defensively than all of our current KPFs.I'm definitely not expecting him to kick 80 goals and win the coleman.
I'm talking more about his efforts at ground level and his tackling pressure.
He's almost the exact opposite of Chol in that sense.
If Walter can bring that same pressure he should in the championships there is no reason to play Chol anymore.
I’m probably an outlier here but I still believe we should trade up for Pick 1 and take Reid and give West coast Pick 4, next years first and Jeremy Sharp. Would like to see us finally get creative with our pick swaps for once. Reid would be the finishing touch to our already strong midfield with Miller, Rowell and Anderson.Pick 1 state of play: The clubs in the mix for prized draft selection — and what they could offer the West Coast Eagles

Adding essentially 4 top 10 picks on top of Miller, Humphrey, Flanders, Andrew, Rowell, Luko, Anderson, King, Ainsworth, Davies, Jeffrey. Add Ballard, Powell who will have to be paid too. Did I forget someone? That would be basically 18 players line-up made from from top talent.I’m probably an outlier here but I still believe we should trade up for Pick 1 and take Reid and give West coast Pick 4, next years first and Jeremy Sharp. Can see your point, but getting Reid plus 3 top 10 academy kids would probably ensure the academy rules getting changed.I’m probably an outlier here but I still believe we should trade up for Pick 1 and take Reid and give West coast Pick 4, next years first and Jeremy Sharp. Reid would be a nice addition, but he shouldn't be priority number 1.Can see your point, but getting Reid plus 3 top 10 academy kids would probably ensure the academy rules getting changed.
Is Reid really a priority with Humphrey and Flanders also needing midfield time? Plus Rogers, and Lombard the year after.

2 more R1 academy players possibly in 2024 and it looks like min the same in 2025.
Probably some sorting needed in 2-3 years due to cap pressure and lack of opportunity. I guess like we do now with Sharp, Hollands, Chol.
OK, let’s do it plus add 1-2 mature graders to make it even more exciting
So your saying we can’t afford Dusty and the 3 academy kids?I understand the chat about trying our best to turn 4 into Reid - but a list can only sustain so many top-dollar guys in reality.
If we skipped Rogers for Reid, then sure but we're still going to struggle to pay everyone. The salaray cap is ultimately the great leveller and prevents this kind of talent stacking.
I also think it's going to be impossible to beat North to Reid. They have SO much top end draft capital and they haven't even got any further assistance or the McKay compensation.
The reality is that we need to be turning 4 into more points this year and more picks next year. Walter, Read and Rogers (maybe Graham?) is an absolutely ridiculous draft haul already of course.
That said, the prospect of Reid in our forward line alongside Walter is unbelievably tantalising - I wish it were more achievable
They will make it like Flanders did this year or will they be sorted out? How much will we pay Flanders now? 600K? More? Flanders was supposedly our best midfielder after bye. When season started people here wanted to let him go. Both have talent to make it, were pre-selected, would be probably R1 picks, year 4 now, let’s say 300-350K? In 2 years?Ha ha
You're like a politician trying to sneak some shitty shady legislation onto a standard supply bill
"Davies,Jeffrey"
While I see their upside I don't think they're breaking the salary cap bank
I can deal with anything over the trade period but please don't ask me to deal with losing Caleb GrahamSo your saying we can’t afford Dusty and the 3 academy kids?
You get the best talent in and cut the lesser talent as time goes.
Eventually people want out for lack of games.

I’m sick of moving picks around year on year. Kicking the can down the line.
I want to win in 2024

Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick is still yet to make a decision on Chol’s future, with the ruck-forward thrilled with the coaching change given he was no great fan of Stuart Dew.PLAYERCARDSTARTStuart Dew

Gold Coast hasn’t expressly said it is happy to trade Chol but given he is on over $400,000 for 2024 and 2025 they might want to keep only one of him and VFL star Chris Burgess.PLAYERCARDSTART21Chris Burgess
