I'd rather not get Oliver for what he would cost but it would be nice if we were linked with him as that big fish. Would show proper ambition.

So what could we offer, and still have enough points to get the academy kids.

Callum Ah Chee and a future first ;)Thanks Scotty Clayton.

But seriously, we would be trading for Oliver to upgrade a Matt Rowell or Sam Flanders role, not adding to, so there is your starting point. Not that it’s happening anyway. Noah, Touk, Rowell, Oliver, Flanders, Humphrey is a solid $4 million worth of cap.

Oliver
Rowell
Anderson
Miller
Flanders
Humphrey

That would be a very good top 2 rotations of a midfield at the club. Would be very much all in on the midfield, though that group could probably carry you to a few wins off their own bat.

Anyway, this isn't happening but fun to theorize over.

Gee whiz. What a turn of events this would be if we landed Clayton Oliver! Is this the "big fish" we keep hearing about that we're seemingly in the process of clearing salary cap room for? 26 years old and is universally considered a top 5 mid in the league. Not only that, we seemingly have the draft capital to make it possible. The Dees appear to be set on landing pick 1 so if we give them pick 4 along with the pick 5 they already have, that would be a very compelling offer for West Coast. Perhaps our future first rounder will be involved because we know it's going to get swallowed up by the Lombard bid next year anyway. Dimma will look like a miracle worker if he pulls this one off after just a few weeks in charge and we'd arguably have one of the best midfields in the AFL next season.

There's also something poetic about landing the guy that we should have drafted 8 years ago back when we tried to be clever by trading down the draft order and it landed us Callum Ah Chee.

Expensive. And one of the best young midfields going round.

But yeah, even in dreamland this is crazy. The cost of picks will cripple us, but is a big bold play—which I kinda like!

More likely the pursuit of our Pick 4 will heat up massively as clubs may need that for a possible Oliver trade, or a West Coast trade for Reid.

You got already 4 players gone - Jed Anderson, Burgess, Blakely, Constable. That's your initial delisting. More probably coming beside Sharp, Hollands, Chol. Stein? Tsitas?
Brock and Uwland haven’t improved or developed at all!

Considering he had most of his 17/18 year old seasons wiped out due to COVID then missed all of his rookie year to a back injury and has been moved from the midfield to half back, Uwland has done extremely well to play at AFL level so early and looked more than comfortable in the VFL finals. Coming on better than expected I’d have thought?

I still think putting on weight is all that is stopping Brock from becoming a Rory Thompson reincarnate, but if we need to cut rookie spots then yeah he might be one. I just think with the complete lack of key defenders around the league, you don’t give up on a young one until you are absolutely certain they won’t make it.

We can't afford Oliver pick wise.
Says who…
The club can just become more harsh on a few 50/50 line ball players or players we are excess of.

With Dimma coming in… and 10 odd picks this year plus future picks…

Strike while the iron is hot.

Okay so we trade at least pick 4 and a future first for Clarry.
We get a couple of seconds maybe for Chol and Hollands.
How do we get Walter, Read and Rogers?

At the moment, we got 4335 points (including pick 4) which should cover academy kids. If worst scenario we can go into deficit or use future picks.

Pick 4 is 2034 points. Let's guess Chol 30 Hollands 25, Burgess 52, Sharp 52 - total 1877. We are there replacing pick 4. Small deficit 300-500 points does not matter or use future picks.

Seems odd. Maybe try and trade anything that moves… if that don’t work delist it.
Probably still waiting on AFL to announce list sizes… So won’t cut players until then.

I’d like it to be for a reason that includes something more ambitious though.
