What townsend offers off the ground in the VFL for the younger kids is priceless
2019 season Richmond won the VFL premiership with a group of kids and the VFL has some tough such n such players that love ripping into the AFL kids

Not when Jacob's in the team i can assure you that

At least we can confirm that Tom Rockliff isn’t the Port player that was rumoured to come to the Suns now he had announced his retirement

Trade/Draft Ideas:
> Restricted Free Agents;
>> We should go hard for Chol - free agent, costs us nothing. He's from Brisbane, would be a great foil for King and chopping out Witts in the ruck.
>> Defender eg. Daniel Talia? audacious bid for Jeremy McGovern? Cale Hooker?
> Pick swaps with Bulldogs; give picks 24,42,64 <> get pick 17 (Bulldogs need more points to pick up father/son Sam Darcy)
> Go all in for Weideman, pick 17 for Weideman (throw in pick 55 and/or 59 if needed) | Do we go as far as pick 5 for him? With something coming back?

That would still leave us with picks 5, 19, 55, 59 with more trading to be done either way.
* assuming that we cant trade pick 19.

Sorry but Sam Weideman is a dud, just scratch him off your list. Future 4th rounder territory

I agree Chol would be a good target. He or CCJ fit our needs well. 2nd/3rd tall and chop our ruck.

Not sure about Talia with his injury history but we do need a Key Defender. McGovern/HOOKER are short term stops. We’d be better using 5 to target a KPD in their prime. Not sure who...Darcy Moore would be who I’d chase but we’re next to no chance there.

Weideman would probably be more around our pick 24 not worth anywhere near 5 currently.

Don't know how GWS can pay Whitfield, Cognilio, Kelly all close to 1mil a year for plenty, and still have Greene, Hopper, Taranto to pay but we suppose to have no money??

Surely there is a big fish or two we can land. Weller 800k contract is up this year, Swallow & Witts loyalty contract running out, Ben King on 750k? Bowes must be on some good money if he signed for a while

**** Mabior Chol, let's draft Mac Andrew.

I will be beyond ecstatic if we do. Would also be happy with Gibcus.

Don't forget the 300k or so we won't have to pay Peter Wright from this off season onwards. A similar amount could be saved by offloading Brodie as well.

My guess is we're about to give around 800-900k to the "big name" from Port Adelaide and front end the contract so it coincides with the rise of our younger guys. I'm sure Ben King will appreciate the support in the forward line 😉

That would be real nice right about now

What big name Port player would command that salary in the forward line though? Not sure I see it. Or what player in general is worth that much? Will be interesting if we do have cash to spend where it goes.

I like your thoughts just don’t like any of those options. Chol and Weidman fit a need but I don’t see them being saviours to what we need. Burgess dominated Chol in the ruck when we played them and Weidman just looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. Coleman-Jones for me is a better option as that forward ruck. The demand for that player is there but a second rounder so in the 20s. If we give up a first rounder for Weidman I’m done!!!

Pick swaps I think are a given as we won’t have the list spots

A rumour going around that Big charlie dixon is coming home!

31 year old Dixon who would be on a huge chunk of change? He left us for money when we needed him.
Amazing that people see an age with a '3' at the front and automatically think the player holds less value. Dicko had his best season ever last year by finishing second in the Coleman, led the league in contested marks and was named the All Australian CHF. If we actually are chasing him, we would have been chasing him for a while now and that makes sense considering he had a career year in 2020.

He is leading the league in contested marks again this year and is 7th in the Coleman Medal which puts him just one goal behind Kingy and we all know Ben has had a good year in front of the sticks. It should also be pointed out that Georgiades and Marshall have stepped it up this year which has taken many goals away from Charlie.

Dixon's size, playing style and contested marking would really complement a 22 year old Ben King next year. Charlie can also pinch hit in the ruck if needed. He could very well be the key to us opening a finals window next year too. It's worth a shot IMO and would be a feel good homecoming story.

On a 2 year deal, Charlie would be very welcome IMO.
How about a 3 year deal with a considerably lower salary in the third season? I think that would probably get the deal done if he was seriously considering coming back.

You would have to be throwing a shed load of money at Dixon if he’s considering leaving Port when they are in their window, unless Dixon believes Port won’t quite get there.

Is he a free agent or contracted?

Would GC consider Mac Andrew with your first pick if Gibcus is off the board?

He’s an athletically gifted, insanely mobile tall kid, but he’s probably 3 years away from being a player who’s 1 year away from cracking the senior team. He’s very raw. And skinny.

Or would you consider another midfielder who’s close to contributing?
