A rumour going around that Big charlie dixon is coming home!
From the Port website, Charlie isn’t coming back

Dixon signs contract extension
Star forward Charlie Dixon has committed his future to Port Adelaide after coming to terms on a contract extension that will see him remain at Alberton until at least 2023

“I couldn’t be happier to sign on to go around again for the next three seasons with the Port Adelaide Football Club,” Dixon said.

That was last year. People can change their minds very quickly. Remember when Dayne Beams told his Brisbane teammates that he loved the club and wasn't leaving then two weeks later he requested a trade to Collingwood?

Would GC consider Mac Andrew with your first pick if Gibcus is off the board?

He’s an athletically gifted, insanely mobile tall kid, but he’s probably 3 years away from being a player who’s 1 year away from cracking the senior team. He’s very raw. And skinny.

Or would you consider another midfielder who’s close to contributing?

We need success now and he is a 3 year VFL prospect to build up some weight. Not saying he isn’t a good player but he would be a wasted pick for us due to the nature of our ladder position and our rebuild

While I like his athleticism and skills, we don't have a great track record of developing project players.

Definitely not another midfielder, got Flanders, Hollands, Davies all to have a crack. Best available tall, if Andrew is still there i don't mind aslong as we trade in a CCJ Ladhams Lycett Dixon Type operator

yeah, think with our current players 25 and under who can play mid
Miller, Fiorini, Rowell, Anderson, Flanders, Weller, Sharp, Bowes, Hollands, Davies

We don't need a top 5 midfielder.

I'd be taking best available tall.
And a couple of other talls with later picks.
If a decent midfield prospect slides, I don't mind picking someone later in the draft ala. Bytel, Worpel etc.. from past drafts.

Tom Jonas 30yr 188cm Defender
Jarrod Lienert 27yr 195cm Defender
Scott Lycett 28yr Ruck (could suns play he and Witts)
Any word on how Witts is tracking? You'd think he wouldn't be ready until early - mid season.
We desperately need another ruckman and maybe why Lobb's name has been mentioned. His 2019 was pretty good as first ruck.

This is not a draft for KPP’s. At the moment there’s only Gibcus (KPD) who’s considered a potential top 10 KPP, and fair chance GWS select him with their Pie’s pick.

After that there’s Mac Andrews, and possibly no other talls considered first round prospects.

I'd be ok for us to target Mac Andrews with recognition that he'll be a slow burn.
Trading down is obviously fraught with danger (Oliver vs. Ah Chee)

But we could swap 1sts with Richmond as part of a deal to get CCJ across. (ie pick 5 and 2022 3rd round for CCJ and pick 9)

Pick up Andrews with Richmond's first ~10.

Use pick 19 and 24 on a tall midfielder and one of the WA tall forwards or a tall defender?

Potentially some academy players with later picks

my take as an outsider is that you have plenty of ready up and coming on ballers that need time on ball to develop. I reckon inside mids is the last thing you guys need. this is a bad draft for kpps but once you get past your first pick it might be worth looking at some.

but this draft is full of running mids and mid / forward types that I think your team could use. goater for instance is perfect for you. a known goal kicker like Rachele. also reckon rayson and wilmot would really be very good targets with those 2nd rounders if they last to there.

Hollands should develop into that sort of player for us and Sharp looks the good as a running wing but you are right, highly skilled runners are something we still lack.

On another note is Clurey cooked? Or just down the pecking order at Port now Alir coming in and dominating?

He’s definitely not cooked.

We have 4 starting quality tall defenders with only 3 spots (and burton is already playing a medium defender role as well.

So one player is going to be on the outside.

Clurey has been our fb and one of the first players picked until he broke his jaw. McKenzie came in and has been a beast. Forget what you think you know about McKenzie from his time at gcs, he developed into a very good and genuine key defender.

Problem is now we don’t know what is our best collection of key defenders. McKenzie is in too good a form to drop.

Our defense did look collectively better when clurey was in the side tho, whether that’s coincidence or not I don’t know.

And what we do going forward with them I don’t know.

It was something I raised as a possible issue when we went after alir.

As for running mids and the type of quality you should be looking to build , I rate running mids / halfbacks / flankers as ports strength and we have duursma Amon rozee Dbj Bonner Farrell motlop Houston Bergman spp (butters if you consider him a running mid?) Jones and lienert.
You kinda need to have runners all over the park.

It’s a good area for gcs to target this draft.

I'd love us to target Clurey then, would open up Ballard to play the McGovern intercept everything roll. Gives us 2 quality KPD in Collins and Clurey with Ballard, Luko, Powell as interceptors. Decent backline right there.

I was surprised McKenzie got picked up as his development looked to have stalled with us something chronic but that was more us than him clearly as he has played some great footy for you

McKenzie didn’t turn around overnight for us though. Slogged it out in the sanfl and was near delist material until tried as a fb, which even appeared to just be out of necessity cause we had none in our seconds (Toumpas played chb for a good chunk of 1 season).

Clurey would be a good target for you, though with Jonas and McKenzie’s ages we are really handicapping ourselves if we let clurey go unless we find a young defender from somewhere else. Also think of word of clurey got out several Vic clubs would be right in there. Perfect for the dogs and about half a dozen other Vic clubs.

Think it has been well publicised that Mckenzie wasn't mature enough to harness his talent as a younger man.
We didn't have the best environment to help him mature either, but took until his mid 20's before he worked it out.

Not that i want him to leave and hope he stays for Richmond but if he was to leave Coleman-Jones would certainly be a good fit for the Suns

The only thing holding us back is that our list is young. However that list (Joel, Izak,King,Sharp Rowell,Anderson,Ballard, etc) will be hard to contain if they stick together with some more games under their belt. I lot of younger guys have stepped up and Touk is ripping it up this year (GREAT LEADER) and remember it took him years in the system before he exploded. All the building blocks are there. With a full healthy list we are competitive. It showed against Carlton that with some added experience it can make the difference between being competitive and winning. I wonder if the club has any surprises for us in the off season to aid/lead the young brigade. I know we all wanted to play finals this year but I can finally see some signs of light. I just hope they can see beyond all the BS AND STICK FAT. We are not far off.

I have seen him around Isle of Capri before, think he was going into the gym there.

Probably here escaping the VicMedia.
Lots of AFL players come up here and it's never reported. Did anyone know Rance was on the Gold Coast before it was announced he was lining up for the Essendon reserves at the Southport Sharks? I certainly didn't.

If we could just harness their temporary interest in visiting out beautiful city and turn it into a desire to live here then we'd be an absolutely juggernaut of a destination club. In an ideal world we would be considered the Miami Heat of the AFL but obviously we still need to fix some things in-house before that becomes a reality. We'll get there one day though.

We should be able to get players to come to us - who wouldn't want to live on the Gold Coast? It's the ultimate lifestyle. In comparison, it continues to shock me how Carlton continue to get big names. They're now favourites to land Cerra.
