sorry for intruding but this news just dropped - surely if he can get over his injury concerns he would have to be a must get as a free agent that will cost you guys nothing by way of draft picks as I could not think of a better person to instantly improve your defense for a couple of years whilst the youngsters get more experience. I am gutted we let him go as he has been our best defender for a decade and just does not get beaten 1 V 1

Fitness is the issue, we already have a 30 year old key defender who can't get on the pitch.

If there was some way we could guarantee he was fit, I imagine we would look really closely at him, but with his body letting him down at the moment it is definitely an approach with caution.

absolutely - if the due diligence is done and he looks to be ok, then it would be a great get as without disrespect, he would be levels above your best defender - he really is an A grade defender

So what's the story with his foot?

It has taken longer to get better and so they put him on ice till the end of the year and here we are. It really comes down to a club making sure they can see he is past the injury or well on the way to it. But he is an ultra professional in everything he does and has been well noted for it so if anyone can get back on the park, Daniel would be the guy. Also a year out of the game like he has had might also have a rejuvenating effect on his body.

He’s a dual All-Australian & former Crows Club Champion, so his best was probably better than Sam Collins’. I know Collins has won a B&F & has been great for the Suns, but he’s not All-Australian yet. Not saying we should recruit Talia, but he’s worth considering

He’s not far off..

Is anybody else starting to get nervous about rankine, crows clearing they’re books & he did like a we fly as one post on he’s Insta last week and with him being out of the team for a few weeks.
I feel like luko is nothing to worry about but I did think that about jeager so I clearly know nothing

Wouldn’t worry too much about Luko;

Luko Ando Ballard King are real tight mates and Ballard has signed long term, would expect them to follow.

Rankine ringing some alarm bells but we’ll have to wait and see. How will he handle the Adelaide pressure being the main man?

He stated in the present time. Collins is way better as of NOW

Agreed, but if he is fit why are the Crows letting him go?

Coach’s quote infers they had long discussions about his future and he doesn’t fit into the context of their list rebuild.

He would certainly fit into the context of our list. A mature KPD with a lot of experience to pass on to our young talls.

Wouldn’t cost a lot salary wise and is a free agent so no trading of picks. We need the depth in this area. It’s a no brainer for me, SUNS must at least speak with him/do a medical.

100% agree. We desperately need a solid KPD. If fit he's an obvious solution. Trouble is there are few teams that need the same so he might not come cheap. The Bulldog's are the obvious one if he wants to go to a team challenging.

They already took Alex Keath, surely they can leave Daniel Talia & Matt Crouch ;) to join Greenwood and Atkins instead

Just on another note, Crouch will be cheap, a more accomplished Fiorini. Our midfield can always improve depth. Too early to rely on 3 under 21’s (Rowell Anderson Flanders)

Swallow and Greenwood have flexibly to play forward or back as senior leaders, which is what we been crying out for anyways. It may not be pretty but Swallow in the back pocket doing the Jack Ziebell, Luke Hodge role may be his long term option. He’s still very good at getting centre clearances and linking up around the ground, but maybe its worth the move since Jack Bowes in that role is clearly not working. Bowes needs to move further up the ground as we all know.

Powell Collins Swallow Budarick Ballard Lukosius Lemmens *Insert mature age defender here* Eg. Talia (29yo) Barass? Payne? astbury?

Sorry for long reply I probably should of made another post

lol no problem.

To me Crouch is a good player, but not a star. Does he improve the side? Yes imo, but only at the right price. We can't be paying him big bucks and then losing some of the young players due to lack of cash. Of course if the side is improving they are more likely to stay. Difficult balance to get right factoring in that not many players want to come to the Suns anyway.

Personally I think our priorities should be both a KPD and a KPF over everything. Then a youngish ruck that can play round 1 and challenge Witts. Talia takes care of one part of that. (I'd like CCJ and Lynch from Collingwood for the other spots).

After that if the opportunity arises to sign a quality player, then of course do it. But good talls will help more than Matt Coruch on $600-700k.

I don’t think there is any key positions for that price this year. A lot 300-500k range and if we wanted to make a splash 800k but yeah we need to bring at least 2 minimum this period, need to load up on talls
