feel sorry for young Ned Moyle

Already getting made out like he non existent
Nah. He is the future. Just not ready right now, which is understandable given how much footy he has missed with development last couple years.

Interesting take All Australian team by stats.
Jack Henry an interesting one.
22 and came from the Rookie draft
Would of been nice to chase him last year and not Atkins probably cheaper too

also Dews favourite Aaron Hall makes the team 56C75C20-8627-47D7-81DA-6B89E378165B.jpeg 56C75C20-8627-47D7-81DA-6B89E378165B.jpeg

DONS EYE SUNS FORWARD IN TRADE

Essendon is keen to secure Gold Coast’s Malcolm Rosas in the trade period after he made his debut this year as the first member of the Suns’ new Darwin zone.

It is understood the Dons have strong interest in his talent and flair in a move that would also strengthen the club’s connections to the Northern Territory.

Irving Mosquito has left the club to return to West Australia and will not return and the Dons, a club synonymous with indigenous recruiting, are keen to add more exciting talent to their list.

Rosas played four games this year in his second season in the AFL but has a big upside.

Clubs are excited by the progress of fellow Suns Darwin academy member Joel Jeffrey, but he signed a four-year contract upon moving to the Gold Coast.

Given they are parting ways with Mosquito (poor kid, had talent, but clearly couldn't handle the AFL environment), it makes sense they'd be after someone in the same ilk.

Not fussed on Rosas won’t get the opportunity to play. Hope he goes well.

With Ranks friends with lemmens harbrow Farrar Rosas Conroy types a few will be on the block this year so he may be tempted elsewhere next year

4 year contract for Jeffery? Didn't know about that.
Must have been similar to this.. But that was kept under the radar

The club has signed Daicos for a four-year deal, which includes two for his standard first contract, which is not unusual for players who commit to clubs as draftees, with father-sons Joe Daniher (Essendon) and Nick Blakey (Sydney) others who have agreed to longer deals when nominating.

The reality is that list spots are tight. GWS has done this for some time—develop players and then trade a few on for future picks (not sure we want extra picks this year). We need to keep the ones we want and be prepared to lose a few to do that.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t keep Rosas, but we got him for free so anything we get back is a net positive. Plus, we have a lot of small forwards. The club has to stop worrying about retaining every player on longer, more expensive contracts than they would get elsewhere.

So once again we will give a player to Essendon for nothing, the same club that haggled over giving us nothing for Saad but demanded pick 7 from the Bloos

can we not get shafted, just once
If you were a smart list manager you'd only deal with us.

Imagine if you were a team starting a rebuild and traded in

- Lyons for free as a delisted free agent
- Wright for a future 3rd round pick (while only paying 2/3 his salary)
- Saad for a second round pick
- Jack Martin for free
- Scrimshaw and a 4th round pick for a 3rd round pick
- Aaron Hall for pick 68
- and then upgraded your pick 50 and a future pick 18 for picks 21, 26, 37 and a future 25.

Nucleus of a great team for the price of a few 2nd and 3rd round picks

2 players who where worth absolutely nothing and offered us nothing. Lyons and Martin sting but lets not pretend Hall or the Sook where worth any more. The ****ing hyperbole in this place lately is pathetic

Relax, I'm not saying that they were worth more TO US based on their final seasons with the suns.

but Scrimshaw since moving to Hawthorn has clearly improved his work ethic and is flourishing

Hall as much of a downhill skier as he was with us was pretty phenomenal this year.

If you were a team - lets say Carlton or Hawthorn, getting all those players for the prices they went for would be absolute ****ing steals.

Whether it's development, whether it's coaching, whether it's culture, whatever. We've given away a lot of players who either showed potential or had potential, for peanuts and it's part of the reason we continue to labour down the bottom of the ladder.

Scrimshaw was never going to work here, Hawthorn knew it, we didn't have a bargaining chip. He looked gassed halfway through the 2nd quarter of every NEAFL game he played, had no intent or purpose in any of his efforts, he simply didnt want to be here. Blame Clayton for that one. He has clearly improved but that was due to Hawthorn, wouldn't of happened for us.

Hall was atrocious for us the last 2 seasons and was 27 when he left us, not exactly someone screaming upside. Looked dead in the water at the Roos till a new coach saved him. That rarely happens, if ever. We got max value out of a someone who no-one really wanted.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but you can hardly argue we where ripped off at the time.

Lyons deal stunk, still bullshit to this day. Martin sucked but we tried to make a stand, it failed. I can at least understand the logic behind it. 2MP deal splits people down the middle and always will. We should of got more for Saad but didn't

You're arguing a point i'm not trying to make

I understand we weren't going to get more for Scrimshaw. I understand we weren't going to get more for Hall.

But the point is that clearly both were talented and could and have thrived under certain conditions, the fact that we have been thus far unable to create an environment that gets the best out of our players is really concerning.

I expect we'll likely end up in a similar predicament with one or both of Fiorini/Brodie as well. Potentially Rosas as well. Noise about Rankine who has stalled as well is not very encouraging.

Needs to be addressed. Because I promise you we'll be copping shit in the media a lot next year when Brodie breaks out and has the season we know he's capable of after we trade him for pick 99.

Apologies i misread what you where saying.

Not all players work at all teams, if they arent clear best 22 players or made any meaningful difference at the club I wont be losing sleep over them leaving. Rosas has a massive issue with his kicking action, to the point where it will hinder his career forever so I doubt he makes the grade. We know what Brodie can do but its not a point of difference to what we already have. We've got so much of the same thing midfielder wise, so contested and slow. I would of played Brodie over Rowell last few games but I can understand the reasoning behind keeping Rowell out there, Davies looks very good for a raw prospect so we are well stocked for inside mids. Brodie probably goes, he might go well elsewhere, he might not but he isnt clear best 22 for us as we have 5 of his ilk. Fiorini stays, Rankine should stay, 2nd year blues where real for him.

Replying to the highlighted bit.....

In my opinion, I believe the environment you mention, was called NEAFL.........no chance with the standard of play there, to improve anyone, especially players under 20yo. We finally get our chance this year going into the VFL, and COVID put pay to that......until we can get our 2nd 22 into a competitive standard of footy, we will struggle to improve those players.....

You never gain much when shedding contracts.
Look at the nba and nfl. You generally have to give something up to get rid of big contracts off your list.

If Geelong bomb out of the finals again I wonder if there would be any players that might of had enough of the media pounding they will receive that may want a sea change.
