I reckon all of Touhy, Rohan, Duncan, Bews and even Stanley could be the Higgins, Dalhaus, Ceglar, & Menegola of 2024.

Kolodjashnij is another who might be under the pump, with a healthy Jack Henry, SDK, Stewart, Zuthrie, and COS all likely inclusions.

Obviously the opposite is also true, and their dips in form could have been attributed to injury and a lack of pre-season, and with a big summer we could see a return to the norm...but it's a watch for mine.

I suspect we're going to try and get Mullin and/or Humphries into the side, with Bowes a possible inclusion off half back too.

We want pace and class back there, and that leaves Touhy, Bews, and potentially even Duncan vulnerable.

Stanley is probably the safest, as Toby is still probably a year or two away from taking things over full time, but he could surprise.

Rohan is probably the one who's up against it, with Close, Stengle, Hawkins, Cameron, Neale, Henry, Miers, Mannagh, Dempsey, Wiltshire and maybe even SDK, Jack Henry or COS all pushing for forward spots.
There's certainly competition up forward, but if Rohan is fully fit and not injured, I think he's still one of the first picked.

4D chess from Wells and Mackie - Dons weren't sure who we would take - Caddy or COS - desperately wanted Caddy but would have known we weren't into Caddy once we accepted the pick swaps. We would have known they were into Caddy as they'd been reamed with the McKay deal and wouldn't want another KPD.
We walk away with COS and a bonus #31 pick - delicious ! ;)
I think as mentioned earlier it was more related to Essendon vs another clubs offer. You're right that we wouldn't have given up our preferred player for pick 31. But we may have for another offer (e.g., WCE F1). So, Essendon needed to trade with us to guarantee Caddy because we could have traded it elsewhere.

I think if we didn't have so many list spots to fill this year, we probably would have rather taken WCE F1. But we didn't want to fill 5 list spots with picks 61, 62, 63, 64. 65 in a (supposedly) weak draft.

There will definitely be injuries in this group. Unless we manage them very closely, in which case games will open up because they are being managed.
Also wonder how much the mythology of 2011 will play a role - commitment to play 2-3 kids to ease the transition etc.

I'd say it's Touhy and Bews in the most danger, joining Smith that makes 3 new spots in the side. O'Connor and perhaps Duncan shuffle to the backline, which opens up plenty of minutes on the wing and in midfield. C.Guthrie, Dempsey and Mannagh seem likely additions.

Rohan, Duncan and Stanley will very likely remain first choice - but they'll probably miss another few games through injury/niggles, will be useful sub options or have the odd game managed. The combination of those factors opens up quite a few games to the non-best 22. Shuffle Dangerfield forward and Clark and Knevitt types could get midfield minutes. Mullin and Humphries options to cover Duncan's half back role. And of course Conway for Stanley. I'd expect 2025 is when these players have a greater chance for permanency unless there's long term injuries or a 2023 type pile up.

Geelong - Emerson Jekker

Was on Hawks list a few season ago.

No info on him provided yet.

So I assume we'll hear about Dempsey being upgraded later on. Jeka is an interesting pick...probably would have rathered Rudd, Callinan or Sanchez, but welcome to the Cattery Jeka!
